ATTENTION POTENTIAL PILOTS:
THE REBEL ALLIANCE WANTS YOU!
DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO WEAR THE ORANGE?
IF YOU DO, THEN THIS IS YOUR CHANCE!

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?
I’m talking about a weekend workshop being put on by Kashyyyk Base of the Rebel Legion. Its sole intent is to see every participant walk away with a Rebel Legion approved X-Wing Pilot costume. From helmet to boots, you’ll have the entire suit.

WHO CAN DO THIS?
This project is open to anyone who is 18 years old and older. While you can purchase a costume for someone younger than 18 years old, they will not be able to attend the Pilot Party.

WHEN IS IT HAPPENING?
The Pilot Party is taking place on the 12th, 13th, and 14th of June, 2009. While people are encouraged to show up the night before, it is not necessary. The only requirement is that everyone must be at the Party Workshop at 9:AM on the 13th of June ready to have fun and make costumes!

WHERE IS IT HAPPENING?
This is happening in Boring, Oregon. Don’t let the name fool you, this Pilot Party will be anything but! Boring is about 30 minutes from Portland. You will get the exact location of the workshop once you register.

WHERE WILL I STAY?
The location of the Pilot Party is in a workshop adjacent to a 2-acre piece of land. Camping area is available to all Pilot Party participants. This option is free, and encouraged, for all participants (you have to provide your own tent and sleeping bags). Otherwise, there are a great number of hotels and motels within driving distance of the location. However, you will have to pay for the room yourself (they aren’t covered in the cost of the Pilot Party).

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
The total amount is $600 per person for a full X-Wing Fighter Pilot costume. This is not just a cheap helmet and rubber boots, but quality items approved by the Rebel Legion Star Wars Costuming Group. Besides the costume, this will also cover the incidentals necessary (glue, paint, and thread) as well as food for the weekend.

WHAT EXACTLY DO I GET IN THE COSTUME PACKAGE?
You get yourself a full X-Wing Pilot Costume from helmet to boots! This includes all of the following:
> An orange Rebel flight suit with all of the appropriate pockets and collar, including a set of three metal Arm Tools. ($71)
> A white flak vest with fully detailed ribbing and buckles. ($66)
> A silver-gray ejection harness. ($13)
> A silver-gray belt with flare loops, flares (your choice of how many up to 12), and buckle. ($59)
> A pair of leather calf-high boots. ($82)
> A full chest box complete with metal details, adjustable olive-drab straps, and hose that magnetically attaches to your flight suit. ($88)
> An olive drab leg garter with eight flares. ($60)
> A pair of black leather gauntlet gloves. ($28)
> A fully detailed arm commpad. ($8)
and
> An ABS X-Wing Helmet with visor, padding, and microphone (including a set of symbol decals). ($108)

The prices listed above are approximate prices which reflect the purchase of a single costume. The $17 difference is for food and supplies (glue, paint, and sewing thread). As more people sign up, the discounts on the orders lower the price of the costumes. Even then, the $600 is used for milestone gifts of various types (see the roster post for more details). After the pilot party, the remaining money will be donated to Children’s Miracle Network in the name of all organizations which participate in the Pilot Party.

WHAT IF I ALREADY OWN SOME OF THOSE PIECES FROM OTHER COSTUMES?
That is not a problem! All you have to do is let me know (through the registration packet) what items you already own. They will be removed and their price deducted from your overall total.

WHAT IF I DON’T HAVE THE MONEY RIGHT NOW?
That’s no problem either. All you have to do is put a $50 deposit to register (which guarantees you at least a flight suit). After that, you can make payments toward your total. As long as you have the entire amount paid before the cut-off date, you are good to go.

WHEN IS THE CUT-OFF DATE?
All money is due by 01 April 2009. On that day, the orders will be placed and everything will be on its way. If you have not paid for the full amount by that time, then you will have a couple of options available to you (such as, refund, partial order, etc). There will be emails going out to remind people of the due dates, so you don’t have to worry if you forget it.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING AT THE PILOT PARTY?
Well, that would depend on your strengths. Not everyone is a world-class tailor or a professional model builder, but everyone will have the opportunity to help out wherever they are needed. If you have sewing experience, then you may be working on the flight suits or harness. Build models with the best of them? Then you might just be building the helmets or chest boxes. Heck, even if you do not have any craft experience, there are plenty of things you can do! As the Pilot Party gets closer, then the craft teams will be revealed. The final roster will be posted on or about 01 April 2009. Don’t worry, though. Even if you are unsure of what you will be doing, project supervisors will be on hand to help out and show you what needs to be done.

WHAT WILL I NEED TO BRING WITH ME?
Well, you will need to bring all of the costume pieces which you may already own. If you have a favorite set of tools you build with, or a sewing machine that you work with, please bring that as well. Also, if you are staying at the campsite, you will need a tent and maybe a sleeping bag. Oh, don’t forget to bring your overnight bag, as well!

HOW DO I REGISTER FOR THE PILOT PARTY?
Registration is easy. All you have to do is PM me with your email address. I will email you with a registration packet to fill out (including contact information, sizes, and some other minor housekeeping). After filling it out and returning it, I will send you a confirmation email to make sure all of the information is correct and include the total price and paypal/money order information). Make the minimum $50 payment toward your total, also called the registration fee, and you are in. (A payment selection form is also included with the confirmation email if you would like to make payments toward the total.)

WHAT’S THE $50 REGISTRATION FEE ABOUT?
Well, because of the major modifications needed to modify a pair of working coveralls into a pilot’s flight suit, those are ordered when you register. The $50 goes toward the ordering and shipping of that first piece of the costume. It also goes toward the thread and Velcro necessary to do the modifications.

WHAT’S IF I HAVE TO CANCEL OR CANNOT ATTEND?
Should you decide to cancel your registration, your money is not lost. The money you paid for the project (less the cost of the coveralls, Velcro, and thread) will be mailed to you by certified check along with the coveralls and copies of all necessary receipts. That way, instead of having to start from scratch, you will have a head start when you decide to finish the costume!

If you cannot attend the Pilot Party or cancel after 01 April 2009, that is okay too. We understand that sometimes life conspires against people. In this event, you will receive all of your purchased items. Unfortunately, they will be unassembled. You will also receive a list of instructions to put it all together. You will not, however, receive your milestone rewards, incidentals, or food. The price for these items will go toward shipping your costume.

WHAT IF I HAVE QUESTIONS?
If you have any questions, all you have to do is PM me and I’ll answer them!

IS THAT IT?
Not in the least! As certain milestones in the number of registrants are reached, you will find little things being added to what you will receive! Patches, posters, and more… you’ll just have to wait and see. All the more incentive to sign up and get your friends in on it too! Look at the registration post (the next post down) for further details and updates regarding the Pilot Party.

FINALLY, THE DISCLAIMER
Any questions, concerns, and/or complaints with the project are solely between the organizer, Jason Ellenburg, and the participants, not the Rebel Legion. If you have any questions regarding the Pilot Party, please send a private message to Jason Ellenburg (Original Poster in this thread).

See? I told you all that we had a local guy who was working on a complete pilot project.

I love that pilot pic.... although, they should have had the X, Y and A-Wings flying overhead, instead of the X and Y-Wings.

It's the Red Squadron recruiting picture from X-Wing Alliance. It symbolizes the uniform worn by the X- and Y-Wing pilots in the Battle of Yavin.

Sweet!

Love the "costume making party"
Love the camping on 2 acres of land
Love the fact that everyone there will be just as crazy as me(because, who does these things?) tongue

The $600 is acceptable, though maybe not for me. I wont argue with the price. But I don't know if I can meet it either, lol. And who knows where I'll be in the world by June 2009...in the very least I'll be in Georgia. Darn.

But this is awesome!

Edit:

P.S. Sorry if it offends you that I said costume-making party. tongue

Larena,

Why should it be offensive? That is exactly what it is.

The term "costume making party" isn't offensive, because that is what we're doing.
If we had some armor to put together, we call those "armor partys".

Now, even if you're not interested in costuming, crafting, but would like to come out to the event, you're more than welcome to come hang out with a bunch of Star Wars fans.

We could even multitask while we're there and have a meeting. Just a thought.

But I like the whole inclusiveness of the project.

Thanks Jason.

As I agree, it is what we are doing! and it will be fun!

But it crossed my mind that you might not like...I don't know! It made sense to me when I was typing it. I just imagined the possibility of someone going off on how it WASN'T a costume-making party. tongue

[train of thought derailed]

Unlike the Rennies (Renaissance Faire folk), these are costumes and not garb. I see no problem whatsoever in using the term costume and I find it a rather apt term. Heck, even I call them costumes and I spent more on my Darth Vader than I did on my car... by almost 350%!

As for the inclusiveness, I see no problem with this either. If we are all fans, and we all walk the same path, then what is the problem? Whether you costume for fun or you costume to earn money for charity, then this is a great idea.

Not to mention that we are very close to our first milestone mark. Hmm, I wonder what the prize for the first mark will be?

No, no... We want to offer something that will actually bring people TO the Pilot Party, not drive them away screaming or bring them there with pitch forks and torches... dancing

Pitch forks and torches???? Do I look like Shrek to you? *don't answer that!

On a serious note, should we invest in some trouser blousers for the pilots? You know that ones I am talking about. One pair could service two pilots, since you will only need one blouser for the leg that does not have the leg flares. Just blouse that pant leg over the top buckle of those engineer boots and we're in business.

I would be glad to get some, as my contribution to the cause! grin

Actually, funny note on that subject. The flight suits will have stirrups added to them to keep them in the boots. The boots, themselves, are identical to the boots used for TIE pilots. They are German Officer Jackboots. Those boots had a black buckle on the outside top of the leg. The same boots were also used for the Rebel Fleet Troopers and most of the "crew" positions in the Empire.

One of the groups at the Pilot Party will be modifying the boots. They will remove the lower straps from the boot as well as use a firearm bluing paint to make the top buckle black.

I know all this, Jason. Most pilots blouse their pant leg over the top of the boot to cover up the buckle. Stirrups aren't needed, not really.

I have seen plenty of screen shots, and even action figures reflect the blousing look that I am referring to.

In fact, we really wouldn't need full length (to the ankle) pant legs of the flight suits, if not for the blousing method on the one leg.

Just a thought.
