Ottawa Comicon - May 28th, 2006

Hey there,
I just wanted to get this posted so people have enough time to plan for it. On May 28th at the Ottawa Civic Centre, it is the Ottawa Comicon. It runs from 10am to 4pm.
Several members of the 501st will have a table there to displaying our props, and maybe get some new recruits! So come on down! Admission is FREE! And who knows, maybe you will be walking out a new member of the Empire!

Can I get someone there to ask the 501st a question, please? I know in Australia my friend is a member of the 501st with a Mara Jade costume. She has a DZ designation number (DZ-2966 Terror Australis). In Canada, I have not seen any Mara Jade costumes on the membership role on the official site. Would someone mind asking the guys at the table if the Canadian 501st would accept Mara Jade costumes under the DZ designation or if they are only allowing Imp. uniforms and Armor costumes? I would really appreciate it.  Let's face it, Mara was as bad as you get at one point, being the Emperor's Hand! I think she has a spot in the 501st since she was an elite assasin! Thanks!

I just checked the 501st boards and Mara Jade is acceptable (Your friends pic is not up there by the way)
Just remember that the 501st standards are exacting, so be prepared to make changes for accuracy if necessary.
Perhaps you could bring it when you come to Ottawa so we can take a look at it?

Goddess, Minder is correct. Mara Jade is actually listed on www.501st.com as a Sith Lord. She's in there with Vader, Maul, Palpy, and Anakin! She would be accepted as long as her costume was accurate. The 501st is in the process of revamping our charter, so things may change. One thing I have heard is that when applying for membership in the fututre, you will need 3 different character references for the costume. In a way, that is good because you will be able to make the costme that more accurate!!
So come on down to the Ottawa Comicon next month! Several of us will be there in costume doing some recruting new members! I would love for us to get some new members at the con, and I think will a little work we an do it. We have some info brosures to bring. I am also brining my DC 15 blaster rifle if I have it by then. If anyone has any props they's like to bring, bring 'em!! I know Minder has a few 
By the way Minder, how's Germany? Have you met with the German Garrison yet?

Actually I’m in Belgium, and I have met with Members of the Garrison here. They were quite nice, and took me out for a great night in Brussels. They took me to a restaurant called "Halloween" that was just fantastic!!
I am looking foreword to getting home tho.
PS: They loved the Pucks!

Tell me about it. That was THE shortest time I have EVER been in my suit. I couldn't believe how hot it was in the room.
However, it was still fun! Thaks to Rob, Vickie, Luc and Jay for coming out. Our next event, the Ottawa Lynx baseball game should be MUCH better. Details to follow.
