SFX and Other tips and advice

I am in the pre-production process my first ever Fan Film. While somethings are falling into place others need helping.
I need help with effects (Weapons, CG, Creatures, ETC.) If you have anything, repeat, anything to offer this fledgling film maker I'd love to hear from you.
