I haven't been around much lately. Work, school, Christmas preparations, and my new editing project have been taking up a lot of time.
Just a couple of things.
I had to put my cat down on Dec. 1st. The vet and I suspect he had intestinal cancer. He was 15.
I got some really bad news about a friend of mine that I know from Dragon*Con. Her name is Melissa, and she's the type of person that, if you've met her, you like her. I'm going to link her LJ post here, because her humor takes a little (only a little) of the sting out of it.

I had to put my 12yo calico down earlier this year. She had a lump that grew over the course of a few months and then exploded into a open wound. Nearly $650 in vet bills got me no answers. On the day she was put down she weighed only 4 pounds. She was a very gentle natured friendly cat right till the day she was put down.
I now have two cats left and the oldest is going on 16yo. She is in good health but old so I don't know how long she has left.
As for your friend I can't even begin to put into words other than to say I'm sorry.

I'm not planning to get another cat right now. It's a lonely life here for a cat. I'm gone a lot. If I got one, I'd probably get two so they could keep each other company, but I'm not ready to do that yet.
It will be nice to be able to leave for a few days and not worry about who will look in on the cat. I had problems finding someone responsible enough to do it this past year.
