Love the duality of these two moments. Anakin slides closer to the dark by killing Dooku in cold-blood with red and blue sabers. Luke comes back from his anger, throws away his (green) saber, and becomes a true Jedi-

I love it! A few years ago I spent days looking through the first of these threads, but by that time many of the pictures were missing and most of it was posted before pics from ROTS were available. Even now, there are always things I never caught before in these direct comparisons, and that endless ability to make new discoveries is one of the things I love most about the Star Wars saga.

Nice ones Alexrd. Also, both Obi-Wan and Luke get a burst of speed after. And there is a contrast in the fact that while Obi-Wan avenges Qui-Gon, Luke, while at first wanting vengeance, actually ends up saving Vader.

    A couple more...

What I like about these is that from episode to episode the floor is getting dirtier. Also, there is some significance in the way the sabers are used. When Qui-Gon is defeated, Obi-Wan defeats Maul with his dying Master's saber. In AOTC, Obi-Wan throws Anakin his saber, but Anakin also loses his duel with it. In ROTS, however Obi-Wan is the one who delivers the blow to his own ex-apprentice, and then takes the saber from him. I guess I just like that there is a progression and contrast working there.

Hmmm... it reminds me there is some symbolism in Anakin flying a Nubian ship in TPM, but piloting The Invisible Hand in ROTS.

    Sidious' "apprentices"

    Sidious' pawns

Anakin and Luke use their anger against the Sith who took their hand-

Baby Leia in roughly the same place in the shot-
    [IMG]

    Struggling with a saber lock-
    [IMG]

A sign of the different eras, Padme is queen of a small planet in TPM, where The Emperor rules the galaxy in the OT. Both have red guards.

Just look at how well done and thought out these films are. I wish more people would be able to be thoughtful of things like the evidence present in this thread.

So called fans are so concerned with the video games and the EU and the petty trivia that they completely miss the poetic brilliance carefully laid out throughout this wonderful, timeless Saga.

    Excellent thread!

    Keep em comin!=D=

I like how Hevy Devy used Sith and Jedi trilogy, I think it fits better than original and prequel trilogy!

I'd add a few screen shots too, but the picture thing is running slow for me right now....

At the end of each trilogy, the last Sith and the last Jedi turn themselves over to Anakin-
    [IMG]

Anakin then proceeds to turn them over to his respective Masters, Mace and Sidious. During Sidious frying himself (Ep3) and frying Luke (Ep6) Anakin makes two important decisions, to betray Mace, and to betray Palpatine-

I like the similarities in Vader and Maul. I see some (perhaps unintended) symbolism in Maul killing Qui-Gon. Like Maul kills Qui-Gon, Vader "kills" Anakin-

Obi-Wan comes back from a submissive position and kills Maul, bringing him closer to being a true Jedi Knight. Notice the symbolism of using the Master's green saber-
    [IMG]
Dooku's death in cold-blood brings Anakin closer to being a Sith. Notice the symbolism of the dual path in a red and blue saber, and the fact that Anakin uses Dooku saber re-enforcing that he is going to replace Dooku-

    An obvious one-
    [IMG]

In the next movie of each trilogy, Anakin and Luke get revenge. Where it contributes to Anakin's fall, it saves Luke.

This is a less visual one I posted on the symbolism thread, thought it fit here. It's a ROTS/ROTJ throne room mirror...

    -The settings; Invisible Hand/Deathstar II
-Obi-Wan: "Well have you noticed the shields are still up?"/The Deathstar shields are still up on arrival.
-Both duels happen at the top of a spire, that elevators are taken to reach the tops of.
-The last space battle of each trilogy rages outside our duel setting, visible through the window. Where the Seperatists are attempting to flee with Palpatine hostage, and are blocked by Star Destroyer equivalents, the Rebels are trapped by similar ships.
-Sidious watches the duel from a chair in both scenes. He gloats as both Dooku and Vader are overpowered by the younger duelist.
-Sidious removes Luke's cuffs using the force on Luke's arrival/Anakin does the same for Sidious after Dooku's death.
-After coaxing from the current Sith apprentice, both Anakin and Luke tap into the darkside as they go all out on Dooku/Vader, the camera panning right to left as they attack. Luke requires far more antagonism before he snaps.
-At Dooku's defeat, Anakin holds sabers at his throat/At Vader's defeat, Luke holds his saber at Vader's throat. Sidious encourages them to finish the Sith apprentices off.
-Luke looks at his robot hand and sees similarity between himself and Vader/Anakin has nothing but hate for Dooku.
-Anakin symbolically takes the blue saber in his robot hand, perhaps symbolising he is leaving his good side behind. He takes the red saber in his flesh hand, possibly an omen. Also, there is symbolism in the two colours representing the dual path he must choose between.
-Where Luke lets go of his hate and defiantly throws away his saber, Anakin takes a Sith saber from Dooku and decapitates him with it. The contrast in colours should be noted; green for Luke, red and blue for Anakin.
-Lastly, the scenes end with Anakin carrying an unconscious brother figure, and Luke carrying a dying father.

    -NaTaLie- and Zeta1127 like this.

A saber lock at the end of a duel leads Obi-Wan to the low-ground, and inversely, in ROTS, the high-ground. Anakin tries to pull off the move Obi-Wan killed Maul with, but Obi-Wan is victorious both times-
