I just couldn't stand Theran. Karpyshyn made him an unlikable character and kind of a dufus. And the plot went all over the place. He didn't do what he did with the Bane books. I found the Bane books really well structured. Not the best prose but the structure was tight. Annihilation went all over the place. I honestly found Revan technically better than this one.

A Jadus book... hmm, what Star Wars author is the best at espionage and intrigue? My gut reaction is Luceno, since many of his works have a political thriller feel to them, but I know he prefers to stay out of that era.

Haven't read this book yet (will do so after I finish Lost Tribe, though I've got a host of other stuff to deal with as well), but it sounds like it's going to fit in with Karpyshyn's pattern of "could have been so much more". It sounds like he totally missed an ample opportunity to connect with his previous TOR novel, Revan, and add a little bit of background/context into Revan's appearance in the game (I think I said when this novel was announced that, regardless of whatever else is in it, I'd be happy if Karpyshyn shows the conversation between Revan and Satele; that felt like an absolute no brainer to me).

Even outside the connections to Revan, you've got a secret agent with latent Force powers. How can that not be a fun story.

I thought Luceno was going to do Deceived originally?

I do recall hearing that, now that you mention it.

Heh. One thing I've ever really felt Karpyshyn had going for him is that he seems to know story structure. Very bad sign if this one lacks even that.

I guess Luceno found even he couldn't piece together that continuity muddle.

Not that it wouldn't have been fun to see him include a scene with Satele dying her hair to a new colour. :p

What about her fluctuating age? :p

Again, Luceno would probably have had fun with that, saying something like she'd lied to the Trooper romance dude in Threat of Peace. [face_batting]

"I'm younger than people say! Look! Look at my new red hair!"

I think it was actually the publisher that didn't like where Luceno was going with it.

Just finished it. Like any Old Republic novel, I think it's absolutely worth reading.

Malgus does not fit him, Jadus/Baras would be better.

Come to think of it, I think that's his plan.

not sure what is wrong with people. This is one of the best pre-ROTJ eu books ever written. Love it!!!! Hated Deceived and Fatal Alliance, could not even finish them. This book is awesome. I love Theron as a spy type character. i am about 3/4 through the novel.

I must admit, though I've not read this yet, it doesn't sound too bad other than Drew's rather generic prose style.

I listened to the audiobook version of this, and just like all the other audiobooks I've listened to, was adequately entertained.

Maybe I'm giving more credit to the people who produce the audiobooks than anything, but still.
