You do understand the historical significance of the "N word" right? You do understand that the reason it's offensive is because of the many years of oppression and slavery that is closely connected to the word (And while we're talking about things that are/were being supported by the church...)? So you are aware you just made an incredibly tasteless comparison don't you? "Xmas" is not a term that comes with a long history, instead it's just a term that is used mainly in protest of a cultural white wash in recent society, mainly societies that are supposed to have religious free will. And I certainly find it funny that Christians would find the use of "Xmas" offensive but not the number of pagan rituals associated with their religious holiday.

This is what pisses me off this time of year. Don't like the Holidays? Think it's forced on everyone? Then you are waging war on Christmas! Which is baloney, I couldn't give a crap about your beliefs or your religious holidays, anyone who says I do is a filthy liar. Just ask Rick about how tolerant I am of other people's religious beliefs. It's not something that bothers me in the slightest because faith (or lack of it) is a personal and subjective matter, and I would not force anyone to change the way they think. But I don't see why one holiday should get preferential treatment to any other religious holiday, and if that one event is to be a holiday that is forced on me as a social event then I'll call it whatever I bloody well please, because that is what I would be labeling. The social event, not the religious event. There is a world of difference.

well I find Xmas offensive, mostly because most people are "offended" at the word Christ,

like Christ himself has oppressed people,

thats what I think annoys people, how they don't like the word Christ as if the person (who did nothing but love everyone he met) is somehow responsible for man's law on organised religion,

It's not what Christ has done that people find offensive, it's the history of what has been done in his name. It isn't something that is aimed at your faith, more it's a matter of not wanting the faith forced upon them.

Just to give you a quick example, I don't mind you wishing me a merry Christmas, it's your faith. I appreciate that. And not just that, I find that you are very tolerant of my beliefs and who I am. Thus I can appreciate that you are just offering me a sign of good will. But the big social event feels like cultural white washing to me, something that I as an atheist feel is a bit dated. It is nothing to do with Christ or faith, just the value of one belief system over others', which feels like a system from yesteryear rather than a modern, free society. But that's just the way I see it.

    ^ALL This. Especially Rick.

And Gummy, you make excellent points as well.

Why can't people just understand that you just have to respect religion or lack thereof?

    I've killed the thread, haven't I? :p

I blame commercialism for that though,

most Christians, don't like the idea of Father Christmas, and all the hoo haa

If it was me, I'd just like it to be a day Christians celebrate as a day of rememberence and dare I say the word worship on the day God made flesh was born (even though he wasn't technically born in december).

Some Christians (ones mostly regarded as cults) don't like the holiday altogether, due to paganism,

I also appreciate your point that False Christians have done terrible things in the name of Jsus, and that is wrong and hypocritical: any modern Christian/true Christian will tell you that

I just prefer the term Happy Holidays over Xmas (if Christmas isn't your thing)

And trust me when I say I appreciate that. Hence my original point, it's not Christmas as a religious holiday people like me find questionable, just as a social event that everyone is expected to take part in. If it was simply a religious institution I don't think anyone would really care that much, I certainly don't mind things like televised mass because I know people take comfort from these things. As I keep saying, because I can't stress enough, that is not what people dislike about Christmas as a modern event.

I can agree with you there, Happy Holidays is a nicer term. But there are a lot of people who would still view that as "war on Christmas".

Those aren't my top 5 of the 80s but just some names I threw out there that had great runs in the 80s, on a bigger stage.

The thing that gets me about Lawler is the fact that he won over 50 singles championships in the 80s, majority belonging to Memphis territory promotions or affiliates. Now, I know that really doesn't mean anything but if you're just going to base his greatness on his abilities, who's to say a guy like Bobby Eaton, Bill Dundee, Austin Idol or the Gilberts weren't better?

If mic skills are all it takes for Lawler to be viewed as the best of the 80s, then it's plenty who rank above him. Wrestling wise, it's plenty that rank above him. Lawler truly stood out for his plentiful title reigns.
