Just like a thread in one of the Movie threads, did you ever have any misconceptions about anything in the EU?

For me I thought Pellaeon died in The Thrawn trilogy and not Thrawn. Don't ask why I thought this. I just did. The thing that clued me that this assumption might be wrong was the back cover of Darksaber.
I also thought The Joiner King came out in June 2005 and not July. I was so crushed to learn I had to wait another month to get it.

    Any interesting misconceptions with you?

I was almost 110% Nom Anor survived TUF. After everything he'd been through in 20+ books, there was no way a villain of his caliber could so casually walk into an off-screen death.

Nom Anor is alive I tell you. He will be back. Or he could be Wyn Dorvan in disguise.

Back when I first got into the EU, that I'd missed a novel between TTT and JAT.

Reading about how the Emperor had been reborn and being all

It's been so long since I first the Jedi Academy trilogy I can't remember my first thought about a reborn Emperor and technically there is a book between TTT and JAT. Isard's Revenge ;). Okay not what you wanted but still true.

I used to believe that Jedi apprentices wielded blue lightsabers, while Knights and Masters wielded green blades.

For whatever reason, I thought Kyp was dead. I don't know why.

I had this nightmare that Saba killed Kenth Hamner fighting over who got to be in charge of the Jedi Order.

    Crazy stuff.

I knew with absolute certainty that there would be a scene before the end of the book where an unnamed Yuuzhan Vong with a mechanical hand would appear on some backwater world looking to stir up trouble. I was more sure that this would happen than I've been about anything in my life.

    NOTHING MAKES SENSE ANYMORE.

HTTE was strongly recommended to me by my cousin, who described the noghri as spiny-toothed jawas with wings. So that was a misconception...

I thought that Mara Jade was a first name, like Sue-Ellen or whatever. I thought that when she married Luke she finally got a surname. :p

I was so sure that Ossus was destroyed by the Galaxy Gun that it being mentioned by Luke in TUF confused me immensely.

    A genuine misconception:

Thanks mostly to the brilliance of Matt Stover pulling the wool over my eyes, I did not see that Jacen had clearly gone dark during the NJO and brought the rest of the order with him, I thought everyone involved actually learned something new and true.

I now realize how wrong I was.

I did think Blackhole was killed at the end of Shadows of Mindor.
    Apparently, he was not...

A long time ago, in a movie theatre not so far away, I thought Anakin Skywalker must have once been a cool guy.

Then I found out how wrong I had been.

TCW are doing a much better job of making Anakin fairly likable, I would say.

That said, it's hard to come off as annoying when you're standing next to Ahsoka.

It's a bit different to most of these misconceptions but when I first read the scene where Luke, Ben and Saba go to confront Cadeus I was sure that Saba was going to die. I had to put the novel down mid way through reading that part to go to work and I didn't pick it back up for several days because I didn't want to read her death.

^Actually, that reminds me of another one:

I used to think Saba was cool.

I thought Abyloth was a cool new villain. After she died several times, I realized I had been mistaken.

    BC, same here.

Girl the way Matt Stover played
Books that made the hit parade.
Fans like us we had it made,
    Those were the days.

And you knew who they were forthwith,
Jedi were Jedi and Sith were Sith,
Misses we could use a man
    Like Matt Stover again.

Didn't need to wipe the slate,
    Everybody pulled their weight.
Gee our old EU ran great.
    Those were the days.

According to the Wook his ship was destroyed. Unless he pulled a Rendar, he is gone.

for years I thought TFN boards were the official star wars boards... until someone told me there is a website even more official than TFN... d'oh! really! what a disappointment when I saw the true official website.

also I once dreamed that I visited the bookstore to get another YJK book, a nonexistant one and can clearly remember the cover art, first chapters story, title, etc. all, even hours after I woke up I searched all house for the book I thought I really bought and wanted to continue reading... *sigh*

    inuniverse.. well:

I still believe my misconceptions even if proven wrong on some already :p

    amongst them:
    - The Emperor once tried to get 16 year old Leia to marry him which Bail averted by sending her to Ladies school.. I still swear there was some old obscure source claiming that backstory!
    - Winter was at the Yavin IV celebration at the end of ANH offscreen... thx to Scoundrels, she was not despite a Galaxy card depicting her in a dress there!

    there are lots more
