My dearest one did... He became 'one of them' - rabidly so for a while. I told him if he was happy, I was happy for him (I promised myself I would hold my tongue) but by all the stars in the heavens, if he tried do convert me, I'd hex his *** from now until kingdom come.

 

I live so far off the beaten path that I rarely get any visitors. I think people would be scared to come to my house. It is like, "The House in the Woods" from some scary movie. I guess I shouldn't have hung up all those "Blair Witch" stickmen symbols all over my yard.

I did have a JW come to my house once. I tell them I am Catholic and they usually go away. Of course, I am not a confirmed Catholic and I haven't stepped in a Catholic church since my youngest son's baptism...

 

The only run-in I've had with a religious-conversion type (not sure what exactly he was) was years ago at college, and he wasn't there for me but for my landlady. He asked me if I knew Jesus. Bit of an odd fellow, but friendly enough. My brother always seems to get approached in the street by people like that, but I've never run into one. Maybe I just don't look convertible?

I don't actually know what religion I am. I was baptised (I think that's the term?) Protestant, but not confirmed, and I've only been to church a handful of times. I think I've been to Catholic church more than Protestant church. I even got communion once. That was weird, because I'd no clue what was going on, and it's probably against all kinds of rules, but everyone else was getting up and going to the front so I kind of went along. Whoops.

 

Oh my goodness...this made me laugh. I'm still laughing.

 

For the first time in my life I actually owe taxes to the government....$6000 worth?! What the hell. It seems my husband's income doubled and we are no longer poor. I had no clue that we were earning more money. I don't know where all this cash is. I haven't seen an increase in money floating around the house. Hey, wait...I was the one who bought all the Christmas presents. Why did I do that? Well, Mr. Money Bags better have saved some dollars to pay those taxes.

 

Blargh. Took a nice, hot bath in order to feel better, and ended up getting water in my ear. Now it hurts. And I still feel lousy.

I worked on a sketch card today, but I'm not satisfied with it. I blame that on working while still sick. I need to get back into the swing of things, but I lack the energy to do so. If Jehovah's Witnesses or roaming Southern Baptists came to my door, I wouldn't be able to fight them off. But, I have a plan that will scare them away.

I'll cough on them.

 

Well, when things don't make sense with the taxes it probably means something is wrong or somebody is not telling me something. It turns out hubby's income doubled because he decided he didn't need a stupid IRA now that he has his military pension. So he cashed it in and he had to pay taxes on the entire amount.

 

Ugh. Taxes. Do not want. I won't owe them anything this year - I don't have to pay taxes on what my inheritance makes until I turn 21.

That seems like a very good plan Trak. I'm very glad my congregation doesn't do that kinda thing. I am much too lazy for all that exercise. Send me to hell if you want to, but I will not walk more than I have to.

Edit, also. It bugs me when Americans complain about taxes. Try paying taxes in a socialist country, THEN you may complain.

 

Yeah, but according to Michael Moore's movie SICKO you are living in a paradise of free stuff...especially health care, eh. You mean he's lying to us Americans?

He lives in the next county over from me. He is always in our newspaper.

 

Man, I'm glad you're already on my side, religiously.

 

Compared to America, it's a paradise of free stuff. But 'Free' is a relative term. Someone has to pay for it. Yet I'd much rather pay taxes than pay to go to the hospital. SOCIALISM ALL THE WAY!

 

I misunderstood...I thought you were complaining about taxes.

 

Honestly, if I wasn't so damn worried about what my insurance will and will not cover, I would have gotten this strep checked out by now. Though, not having my own car is a bit of a problem.

 

Hospital bills are going to bankrupt me - nearly 20K (2 weeks in ICU plus various ER trips) .. Bring on the affordable care act!

 

Next week, if I'm still feeling this lousy, I may see how soon I can get in to see a doctor. I've been sick since Sunday and I'm getting tired of it. I tried to get back into drawing sketch cards, but my pic of Tarkin came out terrible, so that's a card wasted, and it pissed me off.

 

Yeah. I'm happy I live in Europe. Good healthcare system in Germany.
And as much as I hate having to do taxes (the deadline is May, I think), it's not too bad. I owe the government every damned year, though. Oh well.

It's my daughter's sixth birthday tomorrow! She's getting so big. And she'll be in first grade in September. This year is going to bankrupt me. I still have so much stuff to buy. Including a desk for her and various little things that will eventually suck my wallet dry, no doubt.

I swear, I just lost the last year of my life. It's certainly been a busy one.

 

I was complaining. Who likes paying taxes? And doing them is just a bore and a half. It's just better than paying medical bills. I hear those are scarier that Jehovah's Witnesses

So. I'm conflicted. I said I wasn't going to do any summer courses, but having 4 months off just scares me (I'm anti-social as it is) so being stuck in my room for May, June and July just scares me (thankfully I have plans for most of August). My university is offering two history courses in May and they both run for like 3 weeks - 4 hours a day every day - and both courses look pretty interesting (one is on Medieval Spain and the other is titled Hitler VS Stalin). I'd register for one in a heartbeat, but I was mentally finished this school year back in November (I sat down to work on a bibliography two hours ago and I have yet to open the document). And doing a course in 6 weeks was intense last summer, I'm afraid what 3 weeks would be like. WHAT DO I DOOO?

 

. . . I have no advice. I dropped out of college.

 

Every few weeks there is a communal "screw higher education, let's go live under a bridge" decision among my friends and I. We are due for one. In the midst of last semester, it was looking pretty good.

 

Take one course, only one; taking them both at the same time is just asking for trouble.

As for the mindset, I can only offer brutal experience. Between my junior and senior years of high school I had to go to summer school (every teenager's nightmare—believe me!), and it was basically an abbreviated version of the semester-length class I was retaking. For four hours every weekday I'd sit there, hating every minute of it (it was math, my least favorite subject), but eventually I slogged through it with a barely passable grade. I've also taken college summer courses by choice (two days a week instead of one, with longer class times), and found them a little hectic but not nearly as bad as that high school class. If I can do this with math, you can, and history is by far my favorite subject.

As for which class to take, I'd go with Hitler vs. Stalin. It's more modern and, thus, potentially more interesting, and you'll probably be exposed to some interesting source material. I just hope the professor doesn't try to convince you that one was "worse" than the other in a juvenile attempt to incite debate.

 

If I do do one, just one (no kriffing way will I do 2 super condensed courses) it'll be the Hitler VS Stalin one (that one is the afternoon course). I did Microeconomics last May and it wasn't too bad (okay, the first four weeks wasn't too bad, the fifth and sixth week were just awful) and I actually enjoyed it more than the full 4 courses for 13 weeks - I got to focus on just that one thing.

I also just checked my exam scheduled and all of my final exams are the first week, so I'll be done by the 13th of April. The May semester does not start till the 6th, so that gives me a full 3 weeks off. I think I can manage it. Many of my friends are history majors too, so hopefully I'll be able to sucker them into doing it too.

I actually dropped out of college as well. I'd like to go back someday, but that probably won't happen until my writing career takes off...but then, if that were to happen I really wouldn't /need/ to go back.

An interesting quandary, no doubt.
