Yeah, Bardan, 10 kg does sound pretty light. But if you use it only for torso, gaunts and knees/cod, the plates do get rather heavy. Unfortunately, the wook does not give specifics. [face_plain]

Yes, Gamiel. Which brings me back to the compared weight of possible materials.

So what do you consider absolute minimum of gear?

I can't recall how much just our body armor weighed when I was in the Guard, but I am sure it was less than 10 kg. On it's own it wasn't bad at all. Of course it wasn't bes'kar either. :p

The back of the bounty hunter manual has the basic kit layout for Mando's from a description of deathwatch. Basically if I recall correctly Boba's was nearly a basic set if you remove the gadgets and jetpack/rocklauncher. As he didn't have the shin guards, thigh guards, or stepped up neck or arm armor.

I learnt the word 'ballistic' in the context of dangerous men getting really angry, so 'ballistic plates' offer some interesting mental images for me, Bardan. [face_rofl]

    There's a manual on how to be a bounty hunter, Mitth_Fisto? [face_hypnotized]

The Bounty Hunter's Guide is amazing, and from what I understand there was some helpful input from a member here.

So, more or less Jango's armour without the jet-pack, the weapons and all the extra gear? Or have I wrong image in my mind?

No, that's right, Gamiel. Not sure what kind and which weapons she'll get in the end. She's not yet able to use most of them efficiently. So there's no use really, to lug them around yet. She'll have a bes'bev, though. :D

So she is the team's musician:p

Maybe you could come up with some kind of (non-vong) living armour that she could be using, after all she is an bioengineer.
In the game setting Auberond there is a kind of moss that quickly expand and grow tick when hit, creating a tick layer of protective material, that is grown on shields. It is called mak tabaal and grows from 2-3 cm tick to 1 dm without gaining in weight.

You tell her that and she'll stick you with the sharp end of the bes'bev. :p

Her expertise it the clone genome. I doubt you can grow armour out of that. Though, if you want to view clones as some kind of living shield... *ducks and runs*

I she do I will send the law after her for assault [face_shame_on_you]

I was thinking more along the line of that she had some basic knowledge of how taking care of living equipment when it is not in use.

If you are interested I can send you some scans/transcriptions of biotech equipment from some games that I have.

Also: I don't have the time right now to read your fic so can you give me an short explanation to why she, as a human (or have I misunderstood her species), is specialising in the clone genome?

Edit: Also, are you going to give her a cape, rucksack or something else for her back? Because I have hard to image a person in full protector armour without something on their back

Thank you. I think, I'll stick with the traditional kind of Mando armour. :)

Well, she has been saved from the Death Watch by Skirata on a mission to do something else. He set her up with a more peaceful life but she tried to keep in touch during university. She became a bioengineer by choice and went into changing looks and such because of the challenge and the money and possibly Qail Uthan's influence. (Think free-lance pimp-myself for rich people.)

When Skirata was in need of competent bioengineers after returning from Kamino, she came in quite handy and she ends up joining the motley group. Of course, she's involved in Skirata's crusade to stop the rapid ageing of the clones. Thus the specialisation.

10kg (22lbs) would be extremely litet armor, probably sets made of Duraplast. This figure comes from the WoTC RPG source-book Scum and Villainy, and I do know that the New Essential Guide to Weapons and Technology does mention Mandalorian sets made of Duraplast. When I craft mando armor for myself or commissions, I normally use 14 gauge (1.6mm) aluminum or 16 gauge (1.3mm) steel for male armor, and 18 gauge (1.2mm) or 20 gauge (.91mm) steel for females depending on what I have available in the armory.

My heavy armor (Mark V "Starbreaker", which I use as my avatar here) is 14 gauge aluminum (torso, shoulders, handguards, shins[front/back]), 16 gauge steel (thighs, knees, groin, bracers, biceps), and 20 gauge steel (pauldrons, backplate, fingers, feet). Helmet is 1/4 inch thick epoxy/bronze cold-cast, with a 1/8 inch epoxy/nickle blast shield. Also can't forget all the heavy leather pouches, girth belt, holsters and battle suspenders plus my forged steel pistols. In total the Mark V weighs approximately 95lbs/43.1kg, add the jetpack and it gets right at 100lbs. Currently working on the Mark VI "Skyhammer" to better match my picture in Bounty Hunter Code, but its a medium set that should be around 25lbs lighter. I craft armor with a sense of "hyper-realism", and want it to feel like it was said to feel in the Republic Commando books (Kal'buir said "heavy is best").

So yeah, 10kg sounds extremely lite to me and would probably not be made out of Beskar. Some people like it lite, I personally don't feel comfortable in anything less than half my body weight. =P

My contribution to the book mostly lay in the Mando armor section, and helping with ideas on The Return era. I was both shocked and very honored to see the art and the story surrounding the character.

Eh, what's the use of scifi if you can't make kit lighter than reality. :p
Guess I'll gloss over it and count on nobody noticing. [face_whistling]

The special edition of the Bounty Hunter Guide is a tad to expensive for me right now. OWnder waht will happen sooner: me getting enoung money to buy it or me accepting the normal version. [face_thinking]

@MsLanna something I am wondering about is she worthy of the armour?
I fully admit that I don't know enough about mando culture but an impression I have got is that to wear the full armour is to proclaim that you are worthy of it - that you are among the greatest warriors in the galaxy (or at least among the mandos but the mandolorians consider themselves known space best warriors so their elite are the greatest) - and it feels to me that the way she is described she is not jet worthy to wear the full armour.
But that is just my thought based on an impression that is probably false [face_dunno]

Never gave a thought to that. Seeing how Death Watch's running around in full armour as well. If they can wear that, anybody can. :p
I think of it more as a commitment. Wear the armour and proclaim yourself Mandalorian.

So you don't say the Death Watch see themself as the elite among the mandos?
