    Come to think about it, I'm not so sure about all this. It's been really hard managing the depression, and I'm worried it'll interfere. Canceling is a prickish idea obviously at this point.

    So do something that will distract you for a bit: read a book, play a video game, watch a tv show. It isn't like finals in your senior year, it is just a date. Find a way to relax yourself beforehand and then go in while maintaining that relaxed attitude. If it helps you, she is probably just as on edge about meeting you and is hoping and praying that you are who you say you are and not some serial killer.

    Stick with the date and try your best to keep your depression at bay. If you let your depression affect the date negatively it will lead to you feeling more depressed about it later. There's a reason it's known as a downward spiral as it just feeds into itself.

    What Kyle and PG said. Staying inside and avoiding social interaction makes depression and anxiety worse. If that's what's holding you back...you really need to do this.

    If you go and have a good time, it will take your mind off the depression and anxiety temporarily, and if the date ends up being a dud, you won't be any worse off than you are right now.

    I can't think of a better way to counter depression than get out of the house, and go meet some bird for the first time. It's a little bit of adventure. Go out and get some bruises.

    Probably don't talk about your depression with her on date one though. First dates are where your representative meets her representative.

    Yeah not doing that don't worry. I do need to just go out and do stuff and not play Dragon Age Inquisition.


    Actually, I beat that game, so all the more reason to go out!

    A pal of mine (who if I'm honest, isn't the sharpest tool in the box, and in my opinion talks a lot of nonsense most of the time) seems to have no fear about going up to girls, and bantering fearlessly. From what I've seen of him in action, he just seems to ask them questions about themselves, and then just let's them do all the talking (heavy lifting). I think the skill then is knowing when to smile, nod, and agree.
