    Chapter 12

    Two Years Later – Jelucan

“Thane I don’t know if I can go on anymore. The stress is just too great.”

“Are you telling me you want to quit Ciena?”

“I am saying I am thinking about it Thane. I just don’t think I can be the leader I was anymore since the baby was born.”

“The baby is older now. It should be easier for you.”

“Ever since I came back to work my mind has been elsewhere. I just can’t think like I used to Thane. But I am glad that Kendy made that appointment for me with the doctor. I feel so much better. After Nash’s death I just wasn’t myself. Please call Kendy and have her meet us here at the house please Thane.”

    “Will do.”

Thane went to the holonet terminal in the house and accessed the secure line to the Liberty.

Kendy, who was on duty on the bridge, answered the communication.

“Kendy. Please come down to the house. Ciena needs to talk to you.”

“Aye sir. I will be right there.” The holocom then went blank.

As Thane was walking away another message was coming in. Thane went to answer it.

“Admiral Kyrell,” Ackbar’s image said from the hologram. “I need to speak to you right away. I am on my way to you.”

“Great Admiral. We are about to talk to Captain Idele so it will be good to have you.”

“I will be there shortly.” Again the holocom went blank.

“Ciena,” Thane said walking back to her, “Admiral Ackbar is also on his way here. He needs to talk to me. I hope it is nothing serious.”

The knock at the door startles Thane at first as he did not hear any vehicles approaching which is usually easy to do on Jelucan.

He answers the door and Kendy is standing there, still dressed in her uniform.

Well I guess she took the urgency of my message seriously

    “Captain, come in. Please.”

    “Thank you Admiral.”

“Have a seat with Ciena. Admiral Ackbar will be joining us shortly.”

“Yes I know I saw his shuttle landing as I was travelling to your house. What was it you wanted to see me about? I hope it was nothing I did.”

Ciena spoke up, “Oh no no. You have been doing a great job. Actually you have been doing such a great job I would like to offer you the position of Commodore and the position of Commander of the Jelucan Battlegroup. It is a local battlegroup for this system. You report to me and the governor for the planet.”

Kendy’s eyes grew wide, “You can’t be serious.”

“I am Kendy. Very serious. I want you to take this position. I do not know how much longer I am going to be staying in the Navy.”

“What do you mean? The navy and flying is your life.”

“Yes I know. I just think that now that the baby is older I am missing time with him. I want to be in his life. I don’t want to miss anything. I have already missed too much over the last two years. I want to find someone I can groom to eventually take my position.”

“I’m sure there are others better than me.”

“No. You are good at what you do Kendy. I should know. I went through the Academy with you. We were roommates. We know each other better than most. It is because of you that Thane and I are together today.”

Ciena looked over at Thane and smiled. Thane smiled back.

    “Please take this position Kendy.”

There was a knock on their door.

“I will get it. You two keep talking.”

Thane walks to the door and when he opens it he sees Admiral Ackbar standing before him.

    “Admiral, please come in.”

“Thank you Admiral Kyrell. This won’t take long.”

“What do you mean you can’t find them!” The shadowy figure yelled”

“Master they have gone off the grid. We don’t know where to look for them.”

“Did you try looking on their home planet?”

“Why would they go back there? That would be too easy.”

“Don’t you understand by now Snoke? These are not smart beings. They are stupid. They are insects which must be stamped out if we are to rule the galaxy. They don’t even have the slightest inkling of their true power. They choose to ignore it.”

“Master,” Snoke said with a whisper. “The Admiral has a report from the scouts we have sent into the Republic.”

    “Fine. Tell me Admiral.”

“Your Excellency, we should begin work immediately on our starships. I believe that our plans have been told and that we could be in danger if we don’t proceed.”

“I tend to disagree with you there Admiral,” Says Brendol Hux as he walks into the throne room aboard the Chimaera.

“My Lord, I believe I have the solution for building our troops. We use children. We train them from birth and infuse loyalty early. It creates the perfect war machine.”

“Proceed then Admiral Hux. I am placing you in charge of this program.”

“Admiral Thrawn,” Plagueis says looking at him.

    “Grand Admiral,” Thrawn says.

“Don’t correct me!” Plagueis throws Thrawn across the room with a force push.

“I will call you what I want!”

Snoke watches the activities with a smile on his face.

Soon I shall kill my master and take over. Then all this bickering will end once and for all.

Admiral Thrawn gets back to his feet and walks back to the throne. He kneels before Plagueis

“Fogive me My Lord. I know I should have been more obedient. The Emperor was more accommodating. It was him who granted me the rank of Grand Admiral.”

“My apprentice was a fool. I do not want him mentioned again Admiral. Do you understand?”

    “Yes My Lord.”

“If I am My Lord,” Brendol Hux said again, “I had advised Captain Windrider on this program. I believe he was going to try to go after the baby when he was killed.”

“Hmm maybe they are not as stupid as I thought. All we can hope is they haven’t caught on to that plan yet.”

“I doubt it. The Republic would have issued some sort of a warning on the HoloNet if they had. We have been monitoring it. Nothing.”

“Very well. Get on with it.”

    “Yes My Lord.”

“Snoke I have a mission for you.”

    “Yes Master?”

“There is a small boy I want you to keep an eye on. His name is Ben Solo. He is the son of Han Solo and Leai Organa. He is strong in the force and most likely will be sent to train with Luke Skywalker. We cannot allow this. We need to bring him to our side. It is the only hope we have.”

“Yes Master. I will turn him.”

There was a loud knock on the door.

Thane rose from his meeting with the Admiral to answer it.

    “Excuse me please.”

Thane looked out the window to see who was coming at this hour. He saw the local security forces.

    He opened the door.

    “Thane Kyrell?”

“Yes that’s me,” Thane said. “What’s this about?”

    “May we come in please?”

“If you tell me what this is about first.”

“Mr. Kyrell I am sorry to inform you that your parents Oris and Ganaire were killed in a shuttle crash a few hours ago at the space port.”

Thane couldn’t believe what he was hearing. He slumped to the floor and began crying.

Ciena saw all this going on and ran to him.

    “Thane. What’s going on?”

Thane looked at her with tears in his eyes, “My parents are dead. They were killed in a shuttle crash.”

Ciena embraced Thane and also began to cry with him, “I am so sorry Thane. I had hoped we would have more time with them.”

“Thank you Ciena. I never said thank you.”

    “For what Thane?”

“For inviting them to the wedding. I know you did it. But you didn’t want to tell me for fear of what I would say. But I am glad you did. So Thank you.”

Ciena smiled at him briefly, “I had talked to Master Skywalker beforehand. He suggested I invite them and then he would have a talk with you when you saw them.”

    “So I was set up?”

    “Yes.”

    “Always the schemer.”

Thane kissed her. He turned to the door and noticed the Security Forces members heading back to their ridgecrawler.

“Excuse me. Can I claim the remains?”

“I’m afraid there’s not much left sir. We only knew it was them by the shuttle manifest as well as testing on the remains. The remains that were recovered will be taken to the mountains for sky burial.”

“We would like to go. When will this happen?”

    “First thing in the morning.”

“We will be there. Thank you.”

The two officers drove away and Thane closed the door to the house.

Again Ciena kissed him, “Thane. You and them made amends. You have nothing to be sorry for. You and them were on good terms.”

    “But I still miss them.”

“As do I. But you need to be happy for those who transform into the force. They are free now.”

Thane then remembers Ackbar is still in the living room.

“I’m sorry Admiral. I just got some bad news.”

“Yes I heard. Take all the time you need Admiral.”

“Thank you sir. I have faith in Commodore Idele. I know she will not let you down.”

“Will you consider my offer Admiral?”

“Yes of course. There is nothing for me here now. However, for Ciena this is where her life and her family is. So it will be a tough choice.”

“Thane. I was willing to leave home to join the Empire. I would leave home right now, as long as I could still be with you. I love you Thane. Where you go, I go.”

Thane said to Ackbar, “Please give me a few days. With the news and everything going on I don’t know what I want to do. It might take some time for me.”

“As you wish Admiral. I look forward to hearing from you.”

With that Ackbar leaves the house.

    Hi.

Heart-wrenching for Ciena but Kendy was right. Nash wasn't the same person they had befriended - he would have seized the first chance to eliminate her or Thane.

Interesting stuff with Snoke and the one whom I think is
    Plagueis
    despite the spelling LOL :p

Pardon me while I fangirl out here, ahem [face_dancing] [face_dancing] Thrawn -- thank you thankk you! [face_dancing] Woot!

    Chapter 13

    Three Days Later

Thrawn sat on the bridge of the Chimaera staring out at the planet in front of him.

The planet Ilum cold, icy, and foreboding. But that wasn’t where he was looking.

He was looking at the other body. The smaller planet.

Still an icy mess but large enough for their objective.

    Construction must begin immediately.

He presses the button to his left. That would connect him to Snoke.

“My Lord, can you please come to the bridge, I think I might have the planet we are looking for.”

Snoke said through his intercom, “Of course Admiral. I will be right there.”

“Thane. I think you should take this job. I told you. I think I am done with military service.”

“Ciena I want you to work with me. It will still be military service but you can still spend time with Paron.”

“I don’t know Thane. I actually want to have another baby. That will definitely make it difficult for me to fly. I can’t help you if I can’t fly.”

“There are other things you can do Ciena. Clerical duties, etc. Not necessarily flying.”

“Thane if you want to take the job then take it. I won’t stop you. You deserve it.”

“Actually you deserve it. You were always the better pilot than me and you have more command experience than I do.”

“By four days Thane! And look what happened? I crashed my first ship after only four days of command!”

“You did the job you needed to do at the time Ciena. You deserve this more than I do.”

“I will not take it Thane. Too much responsibility for me and not enough time to spend with the baby and having another one. That will definitely put me out of commission.”

    “I’ll call Ackbar.”

Thane sets the secure line to Hosnian Prime and hits the button for Navy Command.

“Ackbar. Oh Admiral Kyrell. Nice to see you. I take it you have an answer to my question?”

“Yes Admiral. I will take the job. But I thought those positions were appointed by the Chancellor.”

“They are appointed by the presiding Admiral of Republic Command. That would be me.”

“So what does this mean for me?”

“Easier work, better hours, more responsibility. And you will be able to fly. Being the Commandant of the Republic Academy isn’t a job to take lightly. I believe you should know. You studied there.”

“When I went there it was the Royal Imperial Academy,” just the thought of those words made Thane’s head hurt “but I don’t want to talk about that right now.”

“Ah I see I forgot that is a sore subject for you.”

“So Commandant Kyrell, any other questions?”

“Yes. What can be done for Ciena? I want her to be able to continue her service but still be able to take care of our baby and have another.”

“Well the Academy does have a need for instructors and other administrative staff. She would of course be able to set her own schedule. That of course would be up to you Commandant.”

    “Thank you Admiral.”

“Oh by the way Commandant Kyrell. You will be able to retain your rank. I am actually going to make you a Fleet Admiral so if you would like to return you will command a fleet.”

“Thank you Admiral. I guess it is off to Coruscant then.”

“No. The Academy has been moved to Hosnian Prime. They want all the training in one location. The local academies are nice for prepatory schools but the main academy is on Hosnian Prime.”

    “Yes sir. On my way.”

Thane terminated the transmission. He looked over and saw Ciena.

She had tears welling in her eyes.

He ran to be with her, “So this is it? We have to leave?”

“Only until we can come back Ciena. Being the Commandant of the Academy isn’t a bad gig. It will let me spend more time with you and Paron. It will allow you to have the time to spend with him too. I still want you to be involved Ciena. I want you to be a senior instructor. It is an administrative position and leaves you free for many things.”

“I’ll think about it Thane. I’ll go pack my things.”

She walked away from him. There he stood with a sad look on his face.

I wish I could give her what she needs.

As if reading his mind, she turns and says, “Thane. This is my turn. You gave up so much for me. You risked your life and risked getting caught to come and stand by me and my family. Now it is my turn. Please let me do this.”

Thane smiled at her and thought to himself I guess she is happy just being with me. I don’t have to do anything special. Just be with her.

“Excellent work Admiral. This planet will make a great location for our project,” Snoke said with a grin on his face.

“Now all we need to worry about is your master,” Thrawn said to Snoke.

“Leave that to me. I know how to get it done. And I won’t even have to get my hands dirty.”

“What do you mean by that My Lord?”

    “You’ll see.”

Snoke walked off the bridge smiling as he walked back to his cabin aboard the Chimaera.

When he got there he opened a comm channel to the Jedi Order.

“Yes I would like to speak to Master Skywalker,” he said trying to sound sincere.

Luke appeared on the holocomm and could tell right away something was not right.

“Who are you and what do you want?

“Master Skywalker. I don’t have time to talk but I do have information that might be useful to you. I have the location of the leader of the Imperial Remnant and the Master to Emperor Palpatine also known as Darth Sidious.”

    “Go on.”

Thane finished his packing then headed to his parent’s house which was right down the road.

He immediately went to his father’s office and retrieved their will then went the administration building in Valentia.

He found a legal representative and began the procedure for administering to his parent’s estate.

The Will stated that he and his brother Dalven both receive equal shares of the estate.

“You need to have your brother present in order for these proceedings to begin,” The lawyer said.

“My brother is an officer in the Empire. He is out in the Unknown Region and he is unreachable. As far as I am concerned he is dead.”

“Well we need a legal declaration of Death for you to get everything and have the proceedings go forward.”

As they were talking Governor Paron Ree walked into the office.

“Thane,” Paron said as he hugged him. “What brings you here?”

“I am trying to get my family’s estate taken care of but they need Dalven to be here to get things started but as you know he is in the Empire and therefore dead to all of us Paron.”

    Paron looked at the lawyer.

“As Governor of this planet I am issuing a decree that Dalven Kyrell is considered deceased.”

    “But sir.”

“There will be no further discussion.”

    “Yes Governor.”

“I will go get the paperwork drawn up.”

    “Thank You Paron.”

Paron left and went back to his office. He returned a few moments later with the official death certificate and handed it to the lawyer.

“I do this under protest Governor.”

“Then you can do that on the unemployment line. I am the governor of this planet and I appoint officials like you.”

“You have become corrupt Paron Ree. You have forgotten your oath to the people of Jelucan.”

“It’s called politics. I have discretion over appointments for a reason.”

    “Get out.”

Behind Paron appears 2 Jelucan Security Forces Officers. They escort the lawyer out of the building and Paron takes Thane’s papers to the Judge.

The Judge looks over the papers.

“Petition granted. Dalven Kyrell is considered dead. Full Executorship goes to Thane Kyrell.” The judge bangs his gavel.

Thane then hugs Paron and the two depart the courtroom.

“So Thane I guess this will be the last time we will see you for a while.”

“We will be back Paron. Ciena wants to visit as much as possible and with my new position I will be able to do pretty much anything.”

“Thane.” They stop walking. “Ciena has changed since she had the baby. Becoming a parent is a major step in someone’s life. I remember when Ciena and Wynnet were born. Holding them both in my arms. It was then I made a decision that I had to change my ways. I was a lot like you Thane. I wanted to go have fun and see the galaxy and fight pirates and such, but the Republic had no formal military. Then after Wynnet died Verine and I were heartbroken. So I decided to settle down. You made the right choice Thane. You made the right decision for yourself, for Ciena, and for your son.”

Thane looked at him and knew he had more to say. He let him continue.

“Ciena came to me. She told me she was thinking about quitting the navy. I told her she had to make the decision in her heart. I wasn’t going to influence her. She told me that she owed you for that night for when you came to stand with us. I told her I thought your debt had been paid and then some. But you know how she is.”

Thane looked at him, “The point is Thane. She loves you and would follow you anywhere. She isn’t concerned about herself anymore. Even back on the Liberty when she was going to go out in a fighter, she was doing it for you. She didn’t want Nash to kill. Fortunately, it worked out for the best. But she will always be there for you.”

Paron hugs Thane after he walks him down the steps.

“Now son. Go. Take care of my daughter and my grandchild.”

“Thank you Paron. We will return.”

    “I know you will Thane.”

The Sentinel Shuttle flew through the atmosphere of Ilum.

“Three minutes till landing. Remember what our target is. We need to kill Plagueis before he is able to successfully escape and rally more Imperial Remnant members to his cause,” Luke said as the ship descended to the ground.

As the ship landed and the ramp dropped.

The Jedi ran out with their lightsabers ignited and descended on the throne room on the Imperial Complex on Ilum.

When they entered Plagueis turned around, “Master Skywalker. Welcome. I see you brought some backup. You think the Six of you can take me?”

“Plagueis I defeated your apprentice, I can defeat you.”

“Sidious was weak. I am strong! I am immortal!”

Luke went into meditation while his knights fought against Plagueis.

Plagueis felt strange. What is happening to me?

Luke ignited his saber and did a Force Leap at Plagueis jamming his lightsaber directly through his chest.

    Plagueis fell to his knees.

    “How. Did. This. Happen.”

“You aren’t the only one who can sever Force connections Plagueis. I learn what I need and use it as needed in order to dispel the forces of Evil. I will not make the mistake of the previous Jedi Order.”

    “You. You will pay.”

Plagueis fell to the ground. Dead finally dead.

“You killed my Master!” Snoke said igniting his lightsaber running at Luke.

The two dueled. Sabers clashed. Objects flew through the air.

Luke’s Jedi Knights watched the fight not knowing that Snoke was doing his best to fight to take suspicion off him as having betrayed his master. But then he realized he had to kill Luke in order to proceed with his plan unimpeded.

“Ok enough of this,” Snoke unleashed on Luke a torrent of Force Lightning at Luke.

Luke held up his lightsaber and the lightning arced back on Snoke. Burning him and causing him great harm. Luke then unleashed his own barrage on Snoke. In the process inflicting numerous wounds and burns including a large gash in Snoke’s head.

At this time the Knights of Ren had broken down the door and rushed in. Luke and his Jedi were forced to flee.

Snoke was considered dead. The threat of Imperial Resurgence Gone.

At least that is what Luke believed.

“I will get even with you Skywalker. You WILL PAY FOR THIS!” Snoke says before he collapsed from his wounds.

The Knights of Ren ran to their fallen leader as the Jedi fled. They would get even. Someday they would get even.

5 Days Later – Hosnian Prime – Republic Academy

“Commandant. Welcome. I am Lieutenant Sandal Rofstein. I will be your personal aide.”

As Thane walked with the lieutenant down the long corridors to his office he remembers walking the corridors when he was a young cadet in the Imperial Academy.

They had copied it to almost a mirror image from the one on Coruscant.

“Thank you for the greeting Lieutenant. However, I will be making some staffing changes. I will be bringing in my own personal aide and I will be moving you to an instructor’s position.”

    “But sir – “

    “That is all Lieutenant. Dismissed.”

    “Aye sir.”

As the Lieutenant leaves the office Ciena comes in. Holding Paron in her arms and walking up to Thane’s desk. They both kiss him and Ciena sits down.

“This place brings back memories. Mostly memories I want to forget.”

    “I feel the same way.”

“Now Thane, why did you ask me to come here?”

“Well Ciena. I need a personal aide and senior instructor. I want that to be you.”

“Wasn’t that just your personal aide I passed on the way out?”

“Not anymore. Please do this for me Ciena?”

    “What about Paron?”

Thane gestures to his left. There, fully assembled and equipped is a child play area.

“You can bring him to work and be right here with him all day. You still can spend quality time but still remain in the military.”

“Ok Thane. I will do it.” She stood up and embraced him then kissed him.

    “Can you start today?”

“Well I am out of uniform.”

“I can take care of that.”

Thane walks to the closet and pulls out Ciena’s uniform.

    “I took the liberty.”

“How did you know I would say yes?”

Thane grinned at her, “Because I know you too well Ciena.”

Ciena kissed him again. Thane pressed a button on his desk.

    The door automatically locked.

    “Um Thane. What about Paron?”

“Hey buddy. See those toys over there? Why don’t you go play? Mommy and Daddy need to talk.”

Once he goes to play the door to the playroom shuts and the windows frost to create a 2-way mirror. They could see Paron but he couldn’t see them.

Thane pressed another button on his desk, “Watch this.”

The wall in the corner of the room rotated to reveal a bed. This was installed for the previous commandant who had a habit of sleeping at the academy.

    Apparently he was a workaholic.

Ciena grinned at Thane, “Let’s go.”

Ciena awoke a few hours later.

She was still on the bed covered in a sheet.

    Thane was nowhere in sight.

Until she looked into the play area.

There he was, sitting on the floor playing with their son.

She sat up in the bed and smiled as she watched them play.

He is a great father. And he will be a good one to the next child, Ciena thought to herself as she knew this was right about the time to have another child. A Child she very much wanted.

I’ll tell him when I’m sure, Ciena thought as she got out of the bed and pulled the sheet around her and walked to the refresher.

She got a shower and changed into her uniform, “Reporting for duty,” she said as she looked at herself in the mirror. Her rank plate shining brightly along with her boots.

As she left the refresher Thane was again in his office. She stopped before him at the desk.

“Reporting for duty sir,” she mock saluted and flashed him a smile.

“Very good. I need you to go to your desk and check my messages then check in on the instructors and have them report here for an orientation meeting.”

    “Yes sir.”

Ciena smiles and walks out of the inner office to the smaller outer office where she could still see the baby but not into the main office.

As she watched the baby playing she lost perception of everything else.

She didn’t see the woman walk into the office to see Thane until she cleared her throat.

    “Uh ummm.”

“Oh I’m so sorry. How can I help you?”

“I am here to see Commandant Kyrell.”

“Yes Ma’am. Might I have your name? I just need to let him know you are here.”

“I am Lt. Shara Bey. I need to see him about getting my son signed up for the junior academy.”

    “One moment.”

Ciena clicked the holo on her desk, “Thane. There is a Lt. Shara Bey here to see you.”

“Send her in Ciena,” he smiled at her. She smiled back, “Thank you Ciena.”

    “He will see you now.”

    “Thank you.”

Lt. Bey walked into the office. She and Thane emerged ten minutes later.

“Ciena, this is Lt. Bey. She served in The Alliance with me. She was at Endor.”

Ciena looked at her. She wondered if Lt. Bey was one of the pilots she shot at while at Endor.

“Shara, this is my wife Ciena. She was a Captain in the Imperial Navy. She has since renounced the Empire. She was also at Endor.”

Shara shot her a look and Ciena knew it wasn’t good.

“Ciena, please get Shara an application. Her son Poe Dameron is going to be joining the junior academy. He is 6 years old. He has started pilot training in his mother’s RZ-1 A-wing so he has experience. We are going to teach him to fly the elite fighters. Just like my X-wing.”

Shara noticed Ciena’s rank insignia and said to Thane, “So they just start making former Imperials Admirals now? That is what is wrong with the Republic.”

Thane looked at her with a look of surprise that then turned to anger.

“Lt. Bey. Please leave. There will be no further discussions. Get out of my office or I will have you removed.”

    “I beg your pardon?”

“You just insulted my wife and you still want me to instruct your child? You must be dreaming.”

Thane pressed a button on the desk and some guards appeared at the door to the office.

“Leave or these guards will remove you.”

    “Fine. But this isn’t over.”

“It is as far as we are concerned. Good day Lieutenant.”

Shara walks out the door in disgust followed by the two guards.

Thane looked at Ciena, “I am so sorry. She doesn’t speak for everyone I know from the Alliance.”

Ciena looked at Thane with tears in her eyes, “Thank you Thane. I love you so much.”

“Ciena, there is no need to thank me. You know I love you and I will always love you and defend you.”

Thane kisses her then returns to his office.

As short time later a man walks into the office.

“Hello I am here to see Thane Kyrell.”

    “What is your name sir?”

    “Kes Dameron.”

Thane appears in the door before Ciena can contact him.

“Kes. What are you doing here?”

“Thane. I want to apologize for my wife. She is still shaken up by the war and doesn’t think former Imperials can change.”

“She insulted my wife. Why should I even talk to you?”

“Because I am not her Thane. I want what is best for my son.”

“I’m sorry but after all that has happened why don’t you wait for your son to be a little older before you send him here.”

    “How old?”

“Standard age is sixteen. The Academy Length is Three Years. At which time if he graduates he will be commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Republic Navy.”

    “Thane – “

“There is nothing more to say Kes. I am in charge of this Academy and that is my ruling. It’s not just your wife. I have been thinking of dropping the junior academy. I just think that the students should be like when I went through. Practice on your own when you are young then come to the Academy to hone your skills. That way we produce the best pilots in the galaxy.”

“I see. Thane I just want to say thank you for hearing me out.”

He turns and looks at Ciena, “I would also like to personally apologize to you for my wife. She is still getting over her experiences in the war. I do think that some Imperials were unhappy or didn’t like the Empire but they were bound to it. So I can see where you are coming from. I do appreciate everything you have done for the republic,” he looks at her rank, “Admiral.”

Kes then salutes Thane and Ciena, “I hope he can come here when he is sixteen.”

    “He should be able to.”

    “Good day Thane.”

    “Good day Kes.”

Thane looks at Ciena, “Ready to go home?”

    “Yes. Take me home stud.”

    “Follow me.”

    Two Weeks Later

Ciena smiled as she checked again. She was pregnant.

Thane will be so excited, she thought.

They had been talking about having another baby for a while now. And now the Force had made it happen.

She walked out into the Livingroom of the apartment they lived in on Hosnian Prime.

What she saw made her laugh.

Thane was playing with Paron. They we replaying one of his children’s games. The name escaped her.

“Thane,” she said smiling. “I have something great to tell you.”

Thane looked at her. Then he realized it.

    “You’re?”

    “Yes.”

Thane jumped up and hugged her and gave her a long kiss.

“Paron you are going to be a brother!”

Ciena laughed, “Yeah he looks really impressed.”

    Both Thane and her laugh.

All of a sudden there is a knock at their door.

When Thane opens the door what he sees shocks him.

Standing there at the door is Dalven Kyrell.

    Chapter 15

Thane wasted no time running to grab his blaster.

He stuck it in Dalven’s face. All Dalven did was stand there.

“Thane. There is no need for that. I did not come here to hurt you.”

Thane looked at him cautiously, “Then why are you here Dalven?”

“My CO was captured in a battle. By you both. I went home to go and see the family and I found out that they had died and that you got everything. You only got everything because her father is the new planetary governor of Jelucan. I want my inheritance Thane.”

“Drop dead Dalven. You never cared before. Now all of a sudden you do. You will not get a credit of that money. Now you leave or I will have the guards remove you.”

“I WILL get what I am owed Thane. One way or another.”

    “Over my dead body.”

“If that is what it takes.”

With that Dalven turns and walks away down the hall.

“Thane,” Ciena says puzzled, “what was that all about?”

“It’s Dalven. He wants his share of the inheritance. He will not get a cent. After everything he did to me and to my family. No.”

“Thane it sounded like he threatened you. Shouldn’t you at least call for a security detail?”

    “No I can handle it.”

“Thane don’t try to be a hero. I need you now more than ever. I cannot raise two children by myself.”

“You won’t have to Ciena. I Promise.” He kisses her forehead and picks up Paron.

    “Come on buddy let’s play.”

Snoke awoke on a bacta tank. He has been horribly disfigured and scared by his duel with Luke Skywalker.

He looked like his Master Darth Plagueis.

He looked around the room and saw Thrawn.

“My Lord no reason to speak. I will give you a status report. You survived the fight with the Jedi. Unfortunately, they hurt you pretty bad. You have scars which the tank should heal but the large gash on your head will not heal as easy if at all. You should be out in a few days.”

Snoke looked at Thrawn and began to strangle him with the forcethen says to him telepathically, you failed to keep the Jedi away.

Thrawn immediately grasped for his throat at Snoke stares at him. Then he is released.

“I see your point My Lord. It was my failure to keep the Jedi away. It will not happen again.”

Snoke thought to himself, well right it won’t because I wanted them to come. They won’t come anymore.

“We have found a new planet for our base of operations and have partnered with some Niktos who we will finance. They promise us they can lauder our money while providing us with profits to help to build our fleet.”

Finally, a bit of good news, Snoke thought.

Go on, Snoke sent telepathically to Thrawn.

“We have re-organized the structure. And I have thought of an idea. To keep an eye on what happens in the Republic we will request a seat in the Senate. If we can keep it, it would allow us to gather intelligence from inside the Republic itself. Right under their noses.”

A good idea Admiral. What is the status of our fleet?

“The fleet is progressing. We are repairing our older ships and gathering materials for new ships. Commandant Hux is going about looking for children to bring in to begin the conditioning training.”

Excellent. How long before I get out of here?

“Only a few more days, then we can talk about the re-structuring we are going to do.”

    Excellent. Good work Admiral. Dismissed.

Thrawn leaves the medical bay and heads back into the bridge of the Chimaera.

Now I need to put phase three into action. Destroy the Jedi. And then, the Republic.

    3 Months Later

“Thane! Hurry up. The semester is starting today and you need to address the student body.”

Thane comes out of the refresher in his office. He is dressed in his uniform with his new rank plaque of High Admiral displayed.

“I am so proud of you Thane. Everything you have achieved. Everything you have done for me and for Paron and soon for our baby. I just love you so much,” she kisses him lightly then heads for the door.

“Come on we have to address the cadets.”

“Lead the Way Admiral. No, after you Admiral. I mean Commandant.”

Thane arrived at the platform where he will address the new class of incoming cadets. Most no older than the age of sixteen. He remembered back to his first days at the Imperial Academy.

He remembered his time there. How it molded him. How it made him into the man and the officer he is today.

He wanted to do the same for these kids. They would enter as kids. And leave as officers.

Ciena stood by his side. She was the senior instructor at the Academy and his personal assistant.

As Thane finished with his speech he introduced Ciena.

Ciena walked to the podium where she made a few remarks then gave it back to Thane who then dismissed the cadets for the night.

With Thane being the Commandant of the Academy he was, in the military hierarchy, directly below Admiral Ackbar and the next to succeed him.

“Ciena,” Thane said on their way back to their apartment, “Do you think we made the right decision?”

“Thane,” she said as they stopped walking, “I think we made the perfect decision. The military isn’t what it was before. It has become much more dangerous with the Imperial Remnant out there we were taking too many risks. Now that we have a child we cannot take these risks. You were right that day on the Liberty. I shouldn’t have been even thinking about taking a risk because of the baby. I am sorry I ever doubted you Thane. You have been thinking about our future since the beginning and I only thought of myself and of you, not of the future.”

She leaned in and kissed him. They continued walking till they got to their door.

When they opened the door, they saw Kendy sitting on the sofa. She was asleep.

“She must have had a rough day,” Ciena whispered to Thane.

“You go check on Paron. I will wake Kendy,” Thane said.

Thane walked over to the couch where Kendy was sitting asleep with the holonet still on.

“Kendy,” Thane whispered as he shook her to wake her.

Kendy opens her eyes and when she sees Thane she nearly jumps out of her skin.

“Oh Thane! I am soo sorry. I guess I fell asleep.”

“Kendy it’s ok. Ciena is checking on Paron. Everything is fine.”

Thane and Kendy go into Paron’s room and see Ciena standing there looking down at him.

Thane walked up behind her and put his arms around her waist.

“I just love watching him sleep.”

Thane kissed her, “So do i. In six months we will have another one to take care of. It will be hard with all the waking up for the middle of the night feedings and changings. As a matter of fact, I might sleep at the office.”

Ciena elbowed him in his gut.

    “Not funny Thane.”

He laughed and kissed her, “You know I would never do that Ciena.”

Kendy watched silently then turned to leave.

    “Wait! Kendy!”

Ciena ran out of the room and down the hall after Kendy.

“I’m sorry we forgot to pay you.”

“There is no need Ciena. After everything you both have done for me it is the least I can do. I mean I am his Godmother after all.”

Ciena hugged her, “At least stay here tonight. It is late and I don’t want you flying tired.”

    “But I have a fleet to run. I can’t.”

“I’ll take care of that. Go ahead and take the spare bedroom. That’s an order.”

Kendy smiled at her, “Thanks Ciena. You two are great to me. I don’t deserve friends like you.”

Ciena hugged her again and they both walked back into the apartment.

At this time Thane was in the process of changing and had his uniform tunic hanging on the door to their bedroom while he went and made himself a drink.

“Would you like anything Kendy?” he asked.

“Oh and I guess I’m not here?” Ciena said sarcastically.

“I already knew you wanted something. But I wasn’t sure about Kendy.”

“No thank you Thane. I am tired I just want to get to bed.”

“The guest room is the last door on the right down the hall. Good night Kendy.”

“Good night Ciena. Good Night Thane.”

The picks up the drinks and walks over to Ciena

He hands her the drink and then they sit on the couch together.

“So what are we having?” Ciena asked.

“Well I am having Bespin Port,” Thane said, “yours is just a plain drink with no alcohol. I saw it at the local store and it reminded me of Jude. I thought this would be a good way to remember her.”

Tears welled up in Ciena’s eyes thinking about her old roommate and friend who had tragically perished on the first Death Star at the Battle of Yavin.

“To Jude,” Thane said holding up his glass.

“To Jude.” Ciena and Thane clicked their glasses in a toast to their friend.

There was a knock at their apartment door.

“Who could it be at this hour?” Thane said as he got up from the couch to go answer the door.

When he got there he looked through the peep hole and he saw an old friend.

There, standing at his door, was Captain Wedge Antilles.

    Chapter 16

    Thane opened the door.

“Sir, I am sorry to disturb you at this late hour.”

“Not a problem Captain, come in,” Thane said as he ushers Wedge in through the door, “Have oyu met my wife Ciena?”

“I haven’t had the honor. This must have been the one you were talking about all the time back in the day huh?”

    “That’s her.”

“Well it is good to meet you Ciena. And also good to see that the Republic has done well in putting their trust in good people who got caught up in the Empire. Thane talked a lot about you and I knew from all his stories that you really were a good person who just got caught up in the Empire. There were others like you and they are either with the Republic now or have retired and are living good lives.”

Ciena smiled. This was the first nice thing anyone from Thane’s time in the Alliance had said something nice to her.

Well that is except for Mon Mothma, Yendor, and a few others.

“Please sit Captain. What can I do for you?” Thane said.

“Well I was told you could use some help here at the Academy.”

“I do. Ciena is pregnant and in about six months will be having the baby so she will be out of commission for a few weeks. So I am going to need someone to fill the Senior Instructor position during that time. I am also always looking for good pilots to be instructors here at the Academy. And you, my friend, are one of the best.”

“I’d love to. Admiral Ackbar thinks I need to take some time off from active duty for a while. After my whole ordeal at Akiva.”

    “Wasn’t that years ago?”

“Yes but the thoughts are still fresh in my head. I just need to take some time off from the Navy for a while.”

“Well welcome to the Republic Academy.”

    “Thank you Thane.”

“We start orientation tomorrow. Today was induction so it was relatively short. Tomorrow the kids get their uniforms and meet their instructors. You know how it goes. You went to the Imperial Academy.”

“Yeah but not the Royal Imperial Academy. Unlike some people,” he laughed as he looked at Thane and Ciena.

    They all laughed.

“So Wedge can you start tomorrow?”

    “Of course Thane.”

“OK then. We will see you tomorrow. I have some work I have to do. I have to review some flight files for the final year students.”

“Ok well I will let you do that then. See you tomorrow Thane.”

Thane goes into his office and begins looking at the student files. One catches his eye.

The file belongs to a senior cadet named Temmin Wexley.

Temmin is a promising pilot and has excelled at all his classes.

“Ciena, come in here for a moment.”

Ciena walks in the door from the bedroom.

    “What do you need Thane?”

“Tell me about this Temmin Wexley cadet. I am liking what I see in his file here. As senior instructor you should know more about him than I would.”

Ciena walks over and sits down in the chair in front of Thane’s desk.

“Temmin is an exceptional pilot. He is poised to break our records. I think if he keeps on the track he is on he will be top of his class. They call him ‘snap’ because it takes him a short time to learn things. He learns them in a snap.”

“How is he in the x-wing?”

“Like he has been flying it for years. It is much different from a TIE. I even have trouble flying it and I am a master pilot. But if you are asking me for a recommendation for top of the class it is him.”

“You are an excellent pilot Ciena, you just haven’t flown in a while. If you want go into the simulator tomorrow to get back to your peak performance. Then you and I will put on a show for these kids. If you want, you can even take my X-wing out for a flight.”

“Thane that X-wing with given to you by the Alliance as compensation for your service. I cannot just take it.”

“It is mine. I am free to do what I want with it. I want you to use it. Teach these kids a thing or two Ciena. I want Cadet Wexley in your class.”

“Thane how am I supposed to teach him if I haven’t even flown in a long time?”

“Because it is like riding a bike. You never forget and with your talent you shouldn’t have any trouble.”

“I will take it tomorrow to the Academy. Can you get another one so we can fly with eachother?”

“I can do better. I want to open up something which might be more realistic for combat training and I have come across some old TIE interceptors that they can use for training against.”

Ciena’s eyes widened, “Where did you find those?”

“The old Star Destroyers that the Republic captured were full of them. Most were destroyed but I convinced Republic Command to spare a few for the Academy for training.”

“Can I fly one of them instead of the x-wing Thane? You know I flew those things all the time.”

“Hmm I don’t know,” Thane said as he rose from his chair and walked to the closet. “I will have to think about it.”

He opens the door and there inside is Ciena’s old pilot’s uniform. The Imperial insignia has been removed and replaced with Republic Starbirds but it was the old TIE fighter flight uniform.

“Thank you! Thank you!” Ciena jumped into Thane’s arms and gave him a deep kiss.

“You have no idea how much this means to me!”

“We disabled the cannons since we are going to use them as trainers. We don’t want any accidents.”

“I don’t care. I just want to fly again.”

“Well then suit up. Let’s go!”

Thane began to put on his orange flightsuit, “Well? What are you waiting for?”

Ciena squealed and began putting on her flight suit and mask.

“Ok Thane. I am ready,” Ciena said as she put her helmet on.”

They walked out of the apartment and down the hall to the hanger area where both Thane’s X-wing and Ciena’s TIE Interceptor sat. Waiting for pilots.

    “Look through my eyes.”

Thane laughed, “Letting your sister see this huh?”

Ciena jumped into Thane’s arms. He could barely hold her due to the weight of the uniform and helmet she wore.

“If I wasn’t wearing this stupid helmet I would kiss you Thane!”

“Ok let’s go up and fly!”

“After you Thane. You are piloting today. None of our little games.”

Thane gets into the cockpit of his X-wing and does his pre-flight checklist. Ciena does the same with her TIE.

“I managed to get the radios linked,” Thane said to Ciena. “Are you ready to go?”

    “Let’s go Thane. I’ll follow.”

“Try to catch me!” Thane says as he flies out of the hanger and into the atmosphere.

Ciena follows closely at his tail.

Thane flew like his life depended on it. Because in combat it would.

    “I’m gaining on you Thane.”

“You never got me before. You won’t now.”

“I wasn’t trying to kill you before Thane.”

“Well you can’t kill me anyway the cannons are dismantled but I know what you mean,” he smiled under his flight helmet.

The instruments in Ciena’s TIE beeped and flashed. She had a lock.

    “I got you Thane.”

Thane’s instruments beeped showing the same.

“Good job Ciena. Ok now let’s get back to the hanger so I can get you trained on an X-wing as you will need it for teaching.”

“Thane you have no idea how this makes me feel to be flying again. Let’s head back. I’ll follow you in to approach.”

They both fly into the private hanger where there were other ships docked as well as several former alliance fighters.

As Thane lands he sees the smile on Ciena’s face as she removes her flight helmet.

“I take it you enjoyed that?”

    “Yes very much.”

“Ok now for your lesson on the X-wing.”

Thane taught Ciena everything he knew. Tomorrow would be her test. The first flight tests she had with her class.

He of course would be there to watch. He had the utmost faith in her.

The Next Day – Republic Academy – Hosnian Prime

“Cadet Wexley,” Ciena said in a stern voice, “Is Captain Antilles boring you?”

“No ma’am,” The cadet snapped to attention when he heard her voice.”

    “Then pay attention.”

    “Yes ma’am, sorry.”

    “Continue with your class Captain.”

    “Thank you Admiral.”

“As I was saying the X-wing is the most advanced multi-capability fighter anywhere in the galaxy….”

Ciena wasn’t listening. She was drifting off thinking about her flying yesterday with Thane.

She didn’t see Thane walk into the room while she was daydreaming.

    “Admiral Kyrell,” Wedge said.

    “Admiral Kyrell,” he said again.

“Ciena!” Thane finally said loudly as she snapped back to reality.

“Oh I’m sorry. What was it you needed Captain?”

“I was telling the students what a great pilot you were and was going to see if you wanted to show them the cockpit controls.”

“No you go ahead Captain. I have other matters to attend to,” Ciena said as she walked out of the room and turned a shade of crimson.

Thane followed her out, “What’s wrong Ciena?”

“Nothing I just got on a cadet for not paying attention and there I am daydreaming about our flying yesterday and not paying attention. I guess I am not fit to be a teacher.”

Thane put his hand to her chin and brought her head up to look him in the eye, “Ciena, you are a human being. We all make mistakes. Don’t fret it. The cadets need to respect authority. No matter what.”

    “You mean you’re not mad?”

“Of course not. I daydream about you as well. All day,” Thane smiles.

    Ciena smiles, “Thank you Thane.”

“Let’s go back into the classroom,” Thane said. “I want to see how these cadets do behind the stick.”

They go back into the classroom just in time to see Wedge getting them inside their individual fighters for takeoff.

“Ok Cadets. Pre-flight checklist then we will take to the sky,” said Wedge.

He salutes both Ciena and Thane before closing his canopy and taking off, the cadets close behind him.

Thane and Ciena return the salutes before they get into their jumpsuits and helmets and running to their x-wings.

“Ok Thane, I bet I can reach them before you can!”

    “You’re on!”

They take off and fly full speed out to the training area to view the cadets training.

Six Months Later – Hosnian Prime Medical Center

Thane came out of the delivery room at the medical center on Hosnian Prime. All the relatives and friends were there, even Kendy who was watching young Paron.

“She’s fine. The baby is fine. She will be able to have visitors shortly. They are moving her to her room.”

There were sighs of relief coming from everyone present.

Then walked back into the delivery room and saw Ciena asleep with their baby in her arms.

They were able to move both of them without waking up Ciena.

When she did awaken she saw all her family and friends.

Smiling down at her was Thane, “Sleep well?”

“Yes. I think it was actually easier the second time.”

“Well would you like to hold your son?”

“What are you going to name him,” Paron Ree asked.

Ciena looked at Thane who said, “We are going to name him Thane. So he is a junior.”

Both of them smiled as they held little Thane in their arms.

“Next time we try for a daughter,” Ciena said smiling.

“You’re on,” Thane shot back with a smile.

    Chapter 17

Nine Months Later – Hosnian Prime

Thane is distracted by a knock on the door to his office.

    “Come in,” Thane says.

Into his office walks Wedge. He is currently serving as senior instructor at the Academy in Ciena’s absence.

“Thane, I just wanted to talk to you about graduation.”

    “What about it Wedge?”

“Well we need to choose a top student. I have a short list here of cadets who are tied for top slot with their scores.”

He puts the datapad down on Thane’s desk.

Thane picks it up and looks it over as Wedge sits down in the chair in front of Thane’s desk.

“I see Cadet Wexley is on this list.”

“Yes sir. He is at the top of the list.”

“I am choosing him. I have seen him in action. He is well deserving.”

At this time Ciena walks into the office with Paron and Thane Jr.

“Hey babe. I was just talking to Wedge about graduation. I am nominating Cadet Wexley for top class. There are a few tied so I need to choose.”

“I agree. Cadet Wexley has been a great cadet and I think he would make a great officer. Thane you do know that the top class cadet gets a direct commission to Lieutenant. The others come out as Ensigns.”

Wedge looks over at the baby, “I must say you have some cute kids.”

“You know they look like their mother in that respect,” Thane smiles.

Ciena smiles, “Thank you Wedge. Perhaps you would like to join us for dinner tonight? Is that ok Thane?”

“Of course. I would love for Wedge to join us.”

“I would be honored. What time?”

“Come by at 1800. We will have some drinks before then we will eat.”

“Sounds good I will be there.”

“Sorry Thane. I know I should have asked you beforehand but I like Wedge and I just made an executive decision.”

Thane smiled, “No it’s ok. You are the boss.”

    Ciena laughs then kisses Thane.

Ciena was preparing the dinner when there was a knock on the door. She looked over to Thane who rose from playing with Paron to answer the door.

“Wedge welcome,” Thane says as he lets his friend into the apartment.

Thane brought him over to the couch, “Please sit.”

Thane went to the kitchen to get the drinks.

“Wedge do you have a preference?”

    “Whatever you got.”

“We have some Bespin Port. We keep it around to remember our friend Jude. She died aboard the first Death Star.”

“Yes that is upsetting,” Wedge said lowering his head, “A lot of people died. But they chose to stay. Commander Skywalker had no choice but to destroy it.”

Ciena threw the knife she was using down, “What did you say?”

    Oh crap, thought Thane.

    “Thane. Did you know this?”

    “Yes Ciena I did.”

“Why didn’t you tell me that the head of the Jedi Order who was at our wedding was responsible for murdering our friends?”

“Because I didn’t want to burden you with that information. Luke is a good person.”

    “And Jude wasn’t?”

“No she was. They all were. But they chose to stay Ciena. They could have very easily abandoned the station. Grand General Tagge did. He was the one Jude told about the attack analysis.”

Ciena turned bright red, “I don’t want to talk to you. To either of you right now. How you could keep this from me Thane I don’t know.” She leaves the kitchen and heads into the bedroom slamming the door behind her.

Thane turns to Wedge who by now is in shock, “I’m sorry Wedge. I think it would be best If you left. I am going to go talk to her. I am sorry.”

    “I understand Thane. Go ahead.”

Thane walked back to the bedroom and slowly opened the door.

“I told you I didn’t want to talk to you Thane.”

“Ciena please just hear me out.”

“Why? So you can lie to me again? What else have you lied about Thane? Do you even really love me or was that just a ploy to get in my pants?”

“Seriously Ciena do you think I would have stayed with you all this time and even risked my life and my freedom to stand with you and your father if I didn’t care about you? Why would I have married you and still be here if I didn’t love you?”

“What else did you lie to me about Thane?”

“Nothing. I didn’t lie to you about that either, I just chose not to tell you because I knew how close you, Kendy, and Jude were.”

“They were my roommates at the Academy Thane. They were the first ones to see that we had feelings for each other, even when we didn’t. They were my best friends Thane.”

“Kendy is still your friend. Ciena, it was Jude’s choice to stay. She knew there was a danger but she stayed and did her durty. You know she died a hero but you also know that the Death Star had to be taken out.”

    “It’s still hard Thane.”

“I know. I had friends on there too. I still have nightmares about seeing Alderaan explode.”

    “Me too.”

They don’t see Wedge standing in the doorway, “You know, it wasn’t easy going to destroy that Death Star. We knew there were people on board good people as well as bad. They killed Billions at Alderaan. It needed to be stopped. We did what we had to do. I am sorry you lost your friends.”

Ciena looks at him with tears in her eyes, “I just miss Jude. That’s all.”

Thane went and embraced her. He pushed the hair out of her face, and kissed her, “I miss her too Ciena.”

“Ciena I love you so much. I am sorry I didn’t tell you what I knew. I didn’t want to burden you with that.”

“It’s ok Thane. Thank you Wedge. I appreciate you telling me and please let’s get back to dinner.”

They all go back out to the kitchen and Thane pours the drinks.

“I want to propose a toast since we are drinking this Bespin Port,” Thane said, “to our good friend, and former roommate in Ciena’s case, Jude Edivon,” Thane said as he raised his glass.

    “To Jude,” said Ciena.

    “To Jude,” said Wedge.

They all clinked their glasses together for the toast. Ciena’s eyes teared.

“Jude would have loved this,” she said as she cried.

“Yes she would have,” said Thane.

    They all take a sip.

“So what are we having Ciena,” Wedge says curiously.

“Bantha Steaks grilled to perfection with a side of greens.”

“That sounds delicious. I can’t wait to taste it.”

Thane and Wedge go sit down at the sofa. They continue their drinks. Chatting about their old days in the Rebellion and about the upcoming graduation of the Academy.

Then they heard the baby crying. Thane went to stand up to go but Ciena said, “Stay Thane. I got this one.”

Thane watched Ciena leave then turned back to Wedge, “How did I get so lucky? She’s so great.”

“Yeah she is. I remember how you used to talk about her all the time. But you proved yourself Thane and so did she. I am glad the Chancellor gave her a pardon.”

“Yeah me too. It was conditional at first but then after she proved herself it was granted on a permanent basis.”

“Well she’s a great woman Thane. You two deserve each other. I am sorry if I got you in trouble earlier.”

“Nah. Don’t worry about it. Jude has always been a sore subject with her. She just misses her and we were so caught up in the propaganda at the time we believed it ourselves. It was difficult not to. That is until I saw Alderaan destroyed then all the alien sentient beings enslaved. She didn’t see a lot of the things I did.”

“True Thane, I didn’t,” Ciena said from the entrance to the hallway. “But that doesn’t mean you had to keep things from me.”

“And I am Sorry Ciena. But I didn’t think you needed to hear it. With how close you were to Jude.”

Ciena walks back to the kitchen, “I am putting the steaks on. Wedge how do you like yours?”

    “Medium Rare please.”

    “What about me?”

“I know how you like yours Thane. Wedge is our guest I have not cooked for him before.”

“Well at least let me help you,” Thane said as he was getting up.

“No stay there. Wedge is your old war buddy stay there. I got this.”

They spent the next few minutes reminiscing about the War and current politics.

Then about fifteen minutes later Ciena announced, “Dinner is ready.”

They all went ot the table where they all sat and enjoyed Ciena’s deliciously cooked meal.

Thrawn gazed into the endless space in front of him.

“Surely you have a plan to get us the rest of the way through this since your master was killed?” he says to Snoke.

“Of course Admiral. Plagueis was a Sith. The Sith were weak. The Knights of Ren however, are strong. And we will use them to further our objective.”

    “And what objective is that?”

“The complete and utter destruction of the Jedi Order and the Republic!”

Thrawn smiles, “Let it burn. This is getting better all the time.”

“We have colonized several planets rich in natural resources and should be able to start producing more ships in the next few years.”

“YEARS? I want that time shortened!”

“My Lord, with all due respect that is impossible. With our depleted manpower it is surprising we got to where we are. Plus with Hux’s training program our troops will not be ready for at least 18 years or more since we condition from birth. We have to wait for the trooper to fully grow.”

    “I concede to that Admiral.”

“Also we won’t have enough people to crew the ships until that training is completed so working on the ships within a specific timeframe is best.”

“I agree. I knew there was a reason I kept you around.”

“Thank you My Lord. Will there be any other incusrions?”

“Not for the foreseeable future. We will lay low for now. Soon we will have a man inside the Galactic Senate. Then, we can strike our first blow to the Republic.”

Graduation day finally arrived at the Republic Academy. All the cadets stood tall in their finely pressed uniforms and brightly shined boots.

Thane stood on the stage. To his left was Ciena, to his right Wedge Antilles.

He began addressing the cadets and guests gathered, “Today you take your first steps into the world of the Republic Fleet. You will be commissioned as officers. You are the best in the Fleet. Some of you will go into the elite branch of Starfighter Command, some of you will become Officers who will command large capital ships. But whatever you chose, remember, you had the best instructors and the best training. Remember that training and you will go far. Now we will present the commissioning of the top cadet. Cadet Wexley please come up to the stage.”

Temmin stepped forward from his classmates and walked up to the stage. He saluted the three instructors and stood at attention in front of them.

“Cadet Wexley,” Ciena began, “as senior instructor at this academy I have had the honor of personally training you. That is until I had to go on maternity leave. Captain Antilles was kind enough to take over from there. You have excelled in your training and proven yourself to be the top cadet. Therefore, it is my honor to commission you to the rank of Lieutenant in the New Republic Navy.”

“Welcome Lieutenant Wexley,” said both Thane and Wedge together.

The entire assembly of Cadets and Guest applauded. The rest of the ceremony went off without a hitch.

When Thane was leaving the gathering he heard his name.

    “Thane Kyrell. Is that you?”

He turned around and saw who was saying it. It was Norra Wexley. Someone he hadn’t seen in years. Since the Battle of Endor.

“Norra! So good to see you. I’m glad you could make it.”

She hugged Thane, “It’s so nice to see you too Thane. My look how you have done. It seems like you have been up to a lot since Endor.”

“Yes I have.” At that point Ciena comes walking up to them.

“Norra Wexley, I would like you to meet my wife Ciena,” Thane said as he put his arm around Ciena and brushed the hair out of her face.

    “Pleased to meet you.”

“You as well. It is always good to meet people from Thane’s War days. Most of my friends are dead.”

“I am sorry to hear that. The war affected a lot of us.”

“Well you were on the winning side.”

    “You were an Imperial Officer?”

“Yes. I was Captain of the Star Destroyer Inflictor at the battle of Jakku.”

“I met a former Imperial officer named Sinjir Velus. He deserted after Endor. He was presumed dead in the battle. He helped us break up the meeting of the Imperial Future Council. We were taken prisoner for a while then we escaped when the Rebel fleet arrived. But sadly Admiral Sloane escaped.”

“She died at Jakku. I watched as the Ravager went down over Jakku with my own eyes. Shortly before I scuttled the Inflictor. Which would have worked if it wasn’t for some people,” she said elbowing Thane and smiling.

“I didn’t want you to die Ciena.”

“I’m glad you did Thane. I really am. I don’t think I ever said Thank you.”

“And you will never have to.”

“Well I am glad to see that things worked out for you,” Norra said. “I had heard the Republic was giving clemency to some Imperial Officers and I know if they gave it to you they must know that you can be trusted.”

Ciena and Thane laughed, “If they didn’t would they have made me a fleet admiral?” CIena said.

    “I guess not.”

“I had lost all faith in the Empire before Jakku. I didn’t want to leave because I was afraid of what might happen to my mother if I did. She was locked up for something she didn’t do. When I was captured and I saw that the Republic wouldn’t retaliate against her but were actually releasing former prisoners I had hope.”

“Norra, I was so glad to see Temmin was coming through the academy. He was the best. You should be proud.”

“I am. I am glad he had instructors like you both. Thank you.”

Snoke was seated on the Throne Room aboard the Chimaera.

Thrawn came in and bowed, “My Lord someone is here to see you. She is a former Imperial Officer. She said it was imperative that she talk to you.”

    “Send her in.”

Thrawn signaled the guard at the door and then in stepped a woman with black hair. She bowed before him.

“My Lord. I have some news that might be of interest to you.”

    “Go on.”

“My name is Arliz Hadrassian, I served as a TIE Fighter pilot before being assigned by the Emperor himself to the Imperial Security Bureau. My brother was a member of the Royal Guard.”

“How is this news that will help me?” Snoke asked.

“I’m getting to that,” Arliz said. “I have contacts with former Imperial Officers who have Star Destroyers who want to use them. I am also in contact with a Lady Carise Sindian. Who I believe happens to be your spy inside the Galactic Senate of the New Republic.”

“How do you know all of this?”

“I told her,” Brendol Hux said as he waltzed into the throne room. “Lady Carise represents Arkanis in the Senate. That is my planet. Where I had my Academy. If we can keep her, we can use the planet to aid our training.”

“Training on a Republic Planet? Why would we do that? How would we cover that up?” Snoke asked.

“We could pass them off as schools for war orphans. No one would think twice about it.”

“Impressive Hux. Get to it. Tell Lady Sindian that I expect her full cooperation.”

“Yes my Lord.” Brendol Hux then left the room.

“So where do you fit into all this?”

“I know a lot of people sympathetic to your cause. I will use lore and legend against the Galaxy. I will create for you a fighting force capable of taking on the Republic. I will use the old Amaxine Warriors. Trained by me of course. Only the best.”

“This sounds promising. But I thought that the Amaxine Warriors left the galaxy many many years ago? We are already channeling money to a spice cartel which is laundering it for us and multiplying our profits tenfold. How much will this cost?”

“They did. They went into the unknown regions. I came across them and they are willing to aid in the fight for the Empire. As for cost that I cannot say at this time. I will let you know it will be expensive.”

“Well it sounds promising. I will take the gamble.”

“Thank you my Lord,” Arliz bows, then leaves the room.

    Chapter 18

Two Years Later – Six Years After Jakku - Hosnian Prime

“Thane, can I ask you a question?” Ciena said as they got ready for bed.

    “Sure.”

“Do you think Kendy will ever meet anyone and settle down?”

“I think anything is possible. She just has to meet the right person. They are out there.”

“She just seems very depressed lately. I think it is because she is always around us and the kids and feels left out that she hasn’t settled down yet.” Ciena sighed then got into bed.

“I know Kendy. She loves the adventure that being in the Fleet gives. But I can see how in this time of peace it could probably be boring. Things aren’t the same as they were a few years ago when we were in the fleet Ciena.”

“I just think we should find someone for her.”

    “Do you know someone?”

“I have the perfect candidate,” Ciena said with a big grin on her face.

“Dare I even ask?” Said Thane when he got in bed.

“Wedge. I think they would go great together.”

“Well I think it is worth a try. I’ll invite him and you invite Kendy to go out with us.”

“Well if we go out who will watch the children?”

“I can ask my parents to come. You know they love to see the kids. And with my father being out of politics and both he and my mother retired they have nothing to do nowadays.”

“Then it’s settled. We will invite them tomorrow. But where will we go?”

“Let’s go to the new restaurant downtown. I forget the name.”

“I know which one you are talking about. I will holo them tomorrow and make reservations.”

The next morning Thane made the call. He made the reservations for four that night. He then placed a call to Paron and Verine and asked if they could come and watch the kids.

    They agreed.

Thane’s next call was to Wedge Antilles.

He agreed to meet for dinner. He was unaware that it was a setup for him and Kendy.

While making calls Thane had a knock on his door. Ciena was in class so he was on his own in his office.

    “Come in,” Thane said.

As the door opened two Senate Guards came in with Chancellor Mon Mothma and Admiral Ackbar followed by four other Senate Guards.

Thane stands up as they enter his office, “Chancellor. Admiral. How might I be of service?”

“Please be seated Admiral Kyrell,” Mon Mothma said as she and Ackbar sat down in the chairs in fron of Thane’s desk.

    “Admiral Ackbar if you would?”

“Thank you Chancellor. Thane. I will be honest with you. I am planning on retiring from the Republic Command soon. I am looking for a successor. You are next in line in rank to me. I would love it and so would the Chancellor if you would succeed me in the position and command the Republic Navy.”

Thane looked at Ackbar in surprise. He knew that Mon Calamarians had long lives so he wasn’t sure why Ackbar would be retiring.

Nonetheless he knew Ackbar needed him, “Admiral I am honored for this offer. I would however need to discuss it with Ciena. It would mean a lot more work for us both. I figured with this job we could spend more time with the children. That job might not offer that.”

“Your family is important Admiral, but you have to remember you also serve the Republic. You took an oath to go or do what is needed by the Republic,” Mon Mothma said. “Right now the Republic needs you. We need your leadership. If needs be you can bring your wife along. Or she could take the job you are currently leaving. That would leave her free for the Children. Your job will be more demanding but you will still have family time.”

Thane looks at Ackbar, “Will I have family time Admiral?”

“Yes. You will have free time. Not at much as now unless you can do the job better than me, which I believe you can.”

At this time Ciena had returned from class and saw everyone in the office, “Thane, what is going on?”

“Ciena, please sit. We have something we want to run by you.”

Ciena sits in the empty chair, “What is it Thane?”

“Admiral Ackbar is retiring. They want me to take his position. Then you would take this job or a job as my personal assistant.”

Ciena looked stunned, “Thane. Do you have any idea how much of an honor this is? Just the fact they are asking you is an honor.”

“Actually Ciena, I was about to recommend they give it to you. I want to spend time with the children and I feel I can do it with this job.”

    “Thane, no. I can’t possibly.”

“You are a much better officer than I am. Plus, you have command experience. Whereas I don’t have as much as you.”

“I have four days of commanding a ship Thane. That hardly qualifies me to command the entire navy.”

“Admiral, is there any way that Ciena and I can hold the position together? I don’t think I deserve it over her.”

“Thane I already said for you to take the job. It doesn’t matter to me.”

Ackbar looked at Mon Mothma. She nodded.

“Thane. You will be appointed as the Grand Admiral of the Republic Navy. Ciena you will br promoted to High Admiral and be the Executive Officer of the Republic Navy, but you will also be the Commandant of the Academy. The job that Thane is currently vacating. Is that ok with each of you?”

Ciena spoke first, “It is ok with me. I am honored.”

Thane looked at her and the look in her eyes told him she was ok with it, “Yes Admiral. I am honored to accept the position.”

“Thank you Admiral Kyrell. I will make the announcement tomorrow in the Senate and then I will announce the appointment which should then be ratified by the Senate,” Mon Mothma said with a smile on her face.

“I am honored by this Chancellor. I will not let you down,” Thane said.

After the Chancellor and Ackbar left Thane sat again at his desk. Ciena came back into the office and sat down with him.

“What’s wrong Thane?” Ciena asked with genuine concern when she saw the look on his face.

“I love what I am doing Ciena. I don’t know if I want to be in Republic Command. I want to help mold future pilots.”

“Well,” Ciena said, “if you want you can come by any time. I will always be looking for some help with training. We need people to fly against and instructors to fly with the cadets.” Ciena giggled at the last comment.

“I would be happy to. But you know it just hit me. I am the youngest member of Republic Command and the youngest Grand Admiral in history. I mean here I am barely in my thirties and I have achieved the highest rank in the Republic Navy.”

“I know and it is exciting me,” Ciena winked and pressed the button on Thane’s desk. The bed came down from its place in the wall.

“So what do you say?” She grinned.

“I’ll give you a 10 second head start,” Thane said smiling.

“Try to catch me,” Ciena said already removing her clothing.

When Thane awoke it was already night. Ciena was there lying next to him with a big smile on her face.

He wondered if this union would result in another baby as their previous union had.

Thane realized Wedge and Kendy would be showing up at their apartment soon.

He woke up Ciena gently kissing her on the forehead. She opened her eyes and looked at him.

She smiled and said, “That was terrific. I love you so much Thane.”

“I love you too Ciena, but we need to hurry and get home. Kendy and Wedge will be by soon to go to dinner.”

Ciena jumped up in shock, “Oh no! I forgot! We have to go now.”

“Ciena, calm down. We have time but we just have to get going.”

Ciena began to get dressed and did Thane.

They both walked out the door and left a note for the cleaning staff and they both left the office.

Fortunately, it was only a short speeder ride to their apartment. Neither Kendy nor Wedge had arrived.

They opened the door and went inside.

Ciena picked out an elegant evening gown. The same one she wore to her father’s inauguration on Jelucan years before, “Haven’t had much of a chance to wear this lately.”

“Yeah well maybe now we will go to more formal events with me being in charge of the Navy such as Galas and balls at the Chancellor’s residence.”

    “Yeah it will be good.”

There was a knock on their door, “I’ll get it,” Thane said as he put his jacket on.

Thane went to the door and looked through the peephole.

Kendy was waiting at the door.

Thane opened the door and invited her in. Moments later Wedge appeared.

“Wedge I would like you to meet Commodore Kendy Idele. Kendy this is Captain Wedge Antilles.”

    “Nice to meet you Wedge.”

“Same to you Kendy,” Wedge said with great enthusiasm

    Ciena emerged from the bedroom.

The room went silent as everyone looked at Ciena. She looked stunning.

    “Ciena. You look absolutely gorgeous.”

Ciena smiled, “Thank you Thane. Wedge. Kendy. Let’s go. We have a lot to celebrate today.”

On the way to the restaurant Ciena explained how Thane got appointed to the High Command pending Senate approval.”

As they took their seats both Thane and Ciena admitted their true intentions, “Ok the reason we asked both of you here was because we think you tow would be great for one another. Wedge is a career pilot and so is Kendy. We think it would be a good match.”

    Kendy blushed and Wedge smiled.

“I agree,” said Kendy smiling at Wedge. “I must admit he is good looking and he seems to have a great personality. I look forward to getting to know him better.”

“I feel the same,” said Wedge with a smile.

Wedge and Kendy stared at each other most of the night. Kendy would giggle at things Wedge said.

Thane looked at Ciena with a smile, “I think we did it.”

“Me too. Kendy is a lucky girl. She gets a war hero.”

“Hey what about me?” Thane said.

“Well,” Ciena said kissing him, “You are my war hero.”

    Thane blushes, “Thanks.”

They al eat their meal talking about the past and trade war stories. Then Thane and Ciena go their way while Wedge and Kendy go theirs.

“Well I hope they enjoy themselves,” Ciena says as they ride in the speeder back to their apartment.”

“I’m sure they will be fine,” Thane says.

“Thane,” Ciena says looking at him, “I want to have another baby.”

“Well after this afternoon let’s hope that wish comes true.”

Ciena smiles, “Yeah. I don’t think it will though. But you know what they say practice makes perfect!”

    Thane smiles.

Kendy and Wedge headed back to Wedge’s apartment near the Academy. They stopped at his door.

“Would you like to come in for a drink?”

“Captain I don’t know if that would be acceptable. I mean we just met.”

“I will let you know I am a perfect gentleman milady. You have the word of Captain Wedge Antilles that nothing will happen you don’t want to happen.”

Kendy smiles and holds out her hand. Wedge takes it and they both enter the apartment.

The apartment is very modest. It is just like Wedge. Modest. Not caring about what people think.

She looks around while Wedge heads to the kitchen.

“I have Corellian Ale, Bespin Port, Jawa Juice, and Corellian Brandy. What would you like?”

“I would like some Bespin Port. I had a friend and former roommate named Jude who was killed at Yavin on the Death Star who was from Bespin.”

“Yes I heard about her. Thane and Ciena drank to her the other night when I was over their house for dinner. I guess they realized we were both lonely.”

“Yes they are very good friends.”

Wedge comes and hands Kendy her drink and they both sit down on the sofa which is made of a leather that Kendy originally thought was Corellian but she realized later it was Dewback.

“You have a nice place here Wedge. I would think someone like you would want to live in Luxury though.”

“Nah I don’t see the need. I spent the majority of my time with the Military on ships in space. Most of them were non luxurious. I got used ot it and I don’t feel I deserve it. I am no different than a normal person who just happened to be in the right place at the right time.”

“Are you kidding? You are a great pilot. You also reunited me with my friend Thane by bringing him into the Alliance. I’ll be honest I always had a crush on you but I never thought you liked me too or even noticed me.”

Wedge laughed, “It’s hard to miss you with that green hair.”

    Kendy blushed, “It’s within regulation.”

“That’s not what I mean. I mean I always noticed it. It was hard not to. You are a very attractive woman. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong.”

Kendy smiled. She leaned in and kissed Wedge.

“Would it be ok if I stayed here tonight? I am a little too drunk to head home.”

“Of course. I can pull out the couch bed for you.”

“Always the gentleman! Thank you Wedge.”

Snoke was a very patient individual and was used to waiting a long while to get what he wanted.

However, funneling money to an unknown Nikto as see dmoney for spice and weapons smuggling operations for possible future payoff was a risk he was anxious about.

Many planets where he had agents were also recipients of this gamble. Most of them resided in Republic Space and had Senators inside the Galactic Senate.

“Maybe at some point some of them can be persuaded to join our cause,” Snoke said to Thrawn.

“It is possible. But right now we just need to re-group and plan in secret. We strike when the time is right.”

“I agree admiral. The New Republic will fall. And we will make it fall.”

Kendy awoke the next morning with a splitting headache.

She didn’t remember where she was at first then she remembered she was at Wedge’s apartment.

No one else was there so she got up and went to the refresher.

As she walked by the bedroom she saw Wedge. He was there asleep.

It made her smile. He was such a gentleman.

It just made her like him even more.

When she finished up she emerged to find Wedge in the kitchen making breakfast.

“Hey. How are you feeling? Did you drink too much?” Wedge asked with genuine concern.

“I just have a little bit of a headache, but other than that I am fine. Thank you.”

    “Well I am making breakfast.”

“That’s great because I am hungry!”

“Kendy. I have been thinking. How is this relationship going to work? You are a superior officer. I think this kind of thing is looked down upon.”

“I thought the same thing. I talked to Thane and he said as long as we are not in the same chain of command it is ok. They let Ciena and Thane be together because of the trust factor with Ciena. They didn’t fully trust her at first but then after that they saw that they didn’t put personal feelings ahead of their duty so they let them stay.”

“Sounds good to me. With me as an instructor and you as a fleet commander that shouldn’t be a problem.”

    Kendy smiled, “I hope not.”

Kendy then leaned over and gave Wedge a kiss.

    They both smiled.

    “Let’s Eat,” Kendy said.

    Chapter 19

Two Weeks Later – Republic Command – Hosnian Prime

Thane entered his new office as Naval Commander. The office still bore the humidity left over from Ackbar’s needs for a humid environment.

He sat down at his desk and pressed a button which connected him to his assistant.

“I need you to get Commodore Kendy Idele on the line for me please.”

“Yes sir. Right away,” the young lieutenant’s voice came from the intercom.

The comm rang on his desk and he pressed the button to answer.

Standing there before him was Kendy.

“Sir. An honor to receive your call. What can I do for you today?”

“I have good news for you. Your ship is being re-assigned. It will now become my personal flagship and will be stationed here at Hosnian Prime. I need you to get here ASAP. A Mon Calamari MC-80 Home One Class ship will be coming there to take command of your fleet.”

“Aye sir. I will give the orders to jump to Hosnian Prime at once.”

“Kendy. This is now a personal communication. How are things going with you and Wedge?”

“Sir if you don’t mind I would prefer not to talk about that over open comm line. I will report to you once I get to Hosnian Prime.”

“Sounds great Commodore. See you soon.”

Kendy salutes and the holo disappears.

Thane pressed another button to bring up another holo. This time he was calling Ciena.

There was no answer at her office.

“Hmm she must be out teaching. Maybe I can go to the Academy check things out.”

He gets up and walks out of his office past his assistant, “Any calls please take a message. I am heading to the Academy to observe.”

“Aye sir,” the lieutenant say sitting at his desk frantically working on his datapad.

Thane walks down his private hanger where his and Ciena’s collection of fighters sits.

He went to the closet and got his flight suit on. Then he noticed. Ciena’s TIE fighter flight suit was gone.

He looked around and noticed the TIE Interceptor was as well.

He jumped into the cockpit of his x-wing fighter, performed his pre-flight checklist, then took off towards the Academy.

As he approached he saw why. Ciena was training the cadets in combat fighter tactics.

He sees the TIE sitting on the instructor’s pad. Ciena was standing next to it with a group of cadets.

He turns and flies close in to them.

    Ciena sees him and waves.

He dips his wing in response then circles around to land next to her TIE on the pad.

“Grand Admiral on deck!” Ciena shouts as Thane gets out of the cockpit and climbs down the ladder of his X-wing.

Her and the cadets stand at attention while Ciena salutes.

Thane returns her salute and says, “As you were everyone. I am just here to observe your instruction today.”

“Admiral Kyrell, what are they learning today?”

“Grand Admiral Kyell, they are learning combat tactics. I thought considering that the Imperial Remnant is still out there I thought they should get a chance to see and fly against a seasoned TIE fighter pilot and engage in mock combat with the training X-wings.”

“Wonderful. Please continue with your instruction as though I am not here.”

Thane goes and stands behind all the cadets. Watching CIena and in awe by how devoted she is to her teaching.

She loves to fly. I guess that is why this is the perfect job for her. She gets to share her passion with others, Thane thinks to himself.

Thane never took this much time out of his day of running the Academy to teach classes. But as he sees Ciena is much more dedicated than he ever was.

While Thane is watching Ciena, Wedge approaches from behind him and stands next to him.

Thane looks over when Wedge is about to go to attention he waves him off. No need for such formalities here.

Thane and him shake hands and they go back to watching the class. When the cadets begin heading to their training ships Ciena comes up to them, “Ok are you two done distrupting my class now?”

They all laugh, “I just wanted to talk to both of you. I have re-assigned Kendy. She is now the Commander of my Flagship the Liberty and thus will be stationed here on Hosnian Prime.”

Wedge looked at him, “So how will that affect our relationship?”

“It shouldn’t hurt it. If anything it should strengthen it. She isn’t under your direct command so it is an ok thing for the two of you to continue to see each other.”

“That’s great!” Wedge and Ciena say simultaneously.

“I was actually coming here to talk to Ciena but now that you are here I will ask you as well. Do any of you know Kendy’s family? I would like to ask her father for her hand in marriage.”

Ciena stared at him in astonishment. They had only been together two weeks and already Wedge wanted to marry her.

“No she never spoke about them. It was probably just like the other Imperial Cadets once you left home you didn’t really have much communication with home. Most just tried to sever ties completely,” Ciena said. “I on the other hand couldn’t sever ties. Not like Thane could.”

“Well I had my reasons for being able to do so. But congratulations Wedge. You and Kendy make a great couple.”

Ciena looked around and saw the cadets were ready to go. She put on her flight mask and activated the life support unit on her chest.

She climbed into the TIE Interceptor then flew off with the cadets following.

Thane looked over at his X-wing and then at Wedge, “You want to go watch them?”

“Watch them? I want to participate! Do you know how many of those TIE Interceptors I shot down during the war?”

    “More than me,” Thane said.

“Damn right,” Wedge said as he climbed the ladder of a nearby X-wing while Thane climbed into his.

“Just make sure you set your weapons for training. We don’t want anyone shot down.”

“Aye sir,” Wedge said as they took off from the pad and flew in the direction that Ciena and the cadets went.

Kendy sat on the bridge of the Liberty as they hurled through hyperspace on their way to Hosnian Prime.

Thane was counting on her to Command the Liberty. How would she tell him this news? How would she tell Wedge?

She knew she would have to tell them both eventually. But would Wedge be supportive? Would Thane let her continue to serve?

She decided she would ask Ciena when she arrived at Hosnian Prime. She had gone through this twice already. She should know how to deal with it.

She snapped out of her thoughts when one of her officers called out “Three minutes to Hosnian Prime.”

Kendy resumed her command posture, “Roger Three minutes to Hosnian Prime.”

The Liberty emerges from hyperspace above Hosnian Prime.

“Ready my shuttle,” Kendy say to her Executive Officer as she walks off the bridge to the Hanger.

    “Aye Commodore,” says the Lieutenant.

Kendy boards the Lambda Shuttle and begins her descent towards Republic Command to meet with Thane.

Hopefully she will run into Ciena first. Then things would be OK.

As they fly Kendy sees a group of X-wing fighters flying near their location. She also sees a TIE fighter at the front of the group.

“Pilot. Follow those fighters,” Kendy orders as she sees two other fighters following close behind which are obviously Thane and Wedge.

The shuttle falls into formation behind the last fighter.

The comm scratches to life, “Who is that? Keep this area clear we are conducting a training operation.”

Kendy recognizes the voice immediately. It is Thane.

“Admiral, it is Commodore Idele. Reporting as ordered.”

“Commodore go back and land at the Academy. I will deal with you when I return.”

The pilot immediately turns towards the Academy.

“What are you doing?” Kendy yells to the pilot.

“We have been ordered back to the Academy Ma’am.”

“I am the one giving orders on this shuttle. You will follow the fighters.”

“My apologies but the Grand Admiral gave an order. He outranks you ma’am.”

    “Consider yourself on report.”

    “Just following Orders Ma’am”

Just then Thane’s fighter appears next to the shuttle, “Pilot, land on Platform 327. I will meet you there.”

    “Roger that sir.”

Thane flies ahead of the shuttle and lands on another landing pad and heads to 327 awaiting the arrival of the shuttle.”

After the shuttle lands and the ramp comes down Kendy emerges to Thane standing there.

“Would you mind telling me what that stunt was about Kendy?”

“Sorry I was just trying to report. I wanted to watch you all.”

“Kendy you endangered yourself and all of the cadets. As well as Wedge and Ciena. And ME!”

Thane and Kendy see the TIE Intercepto fly overhead and land next to Thane’s fighter.

Ciena could see the two of them fighting and quickly removed her helmet and ran over to them.

“Ok both of you stop right now!”

“CIena. Stay out of this. You are being insubordinate,” Thane said.

“This isn’t business Thane. This is personal. I am not your subordinate right now. I am your wife!”

    “OK OK. What Ciena?”

“Hear Kendy out. She did what she did for a reason. Just listen to her before you scream at her Thane.”

    “Ok Kendy. Go ahead.”

“Thane, I was trying to say I wanted to report to you ASAP so I followed your fighter to here. I thought you were on your way back to Command. I didn’t realize until I got to the training area that it was a training simulation. I was about to tell the pilot to pull out when you came over the comm. I am sorry Thane.”

At this time, they realized all the cadets were standing there staring at them.

Ciena ran back over to the class and took Wedge with her.

“Kendy. I am sorry I acted like I did but you could have gotten someone killed. Yourself included.”

“I know Thane. I am sorry. Is there anything I can do to make it up to you?”

“I will talk to you back at my office. I will meet you there in 10 minutes.”

Kendy salutes, “Aye sir.” Then she turned and walked back to her shuttle to head to Republic Command.

Thane looked over and saw Ciena and Wedge dismissing their class. They walked back over to him.

“I want the two of you to report to my office in 10 minutes. I think there are some things we need to discuss.”

Thane climbed back up the ladder then into the cockpit of his x-wing and took off heading for Republic Command.

Ciena a Wedge looked at each other. Then they both hangered their ships, changed into their uniforms, then headed to Thane’s office. They were already late.

Thane was talking to Kendy when Ciena and Wedge arrived.

    “I thought I said 10 minutes?”

“You did Thane. It takes a bit of time to put away our fighters and then change. Why do you need to see u?”

    “Sit and I will explain.”

Then then goes and looks at Kendy, “Is there something you want to tell use Kendy?”

Kendy tries her best to hide her expression but nods her head.

“Go on,” Thane told her reassuringly.

Well if Thane already knows I guess I can tell the rest of them.

“I – I’m pregnant,” Kendy said almost in tears. She looked at Wedge begging for understanding.

Immediately Wedge jumped from his chair and went over to hug her, “I am so Happy Kendy! I was just asking Ciena and Thane for some advice but I think I know what I need to do now,” he gets down on one knee holding her hands in his, “Kend Idele, will you marry me?”

“It’s a great thing to do Wedge but you don’t have to marry me just because of this.”

“No I wanted to even before I learned about this,” he said with a smile on his face.

Kendy’s face lit up, “Do you really mean it? You wanted to marry me even before you found out about this?”

“Of course! Why would I have any reason to lie to you. I love you Kendy.” He then kissed her gently.

“Well then my answer is yes Wedge,” she hugs him and they both look at Ciena and Thane.

Ciena is smiling with tears in her eyes and Thane looks like he is happy with them both.

“Congratulations to you both,” Thane says, “but I also need to discuss something else with you Kendy.”

Wedge stood up and went back to his seat.

“Kendy. As you know I re-assigned you and the Liberty to be my flagship. I did this for a specific reason. I did it so you can be close to Wedge but also I wanted to keep you and Ciena close. You two are good friends and you need each other now more than ever. Ciena can help you with many things you will be going through. She went through it twice.”

“How did you know Thane?” Kendy asked.

“I have bene through this twice before with Ciena. I know the signs and I can tell by voice tone and such.”

Ciena smiled. She remembered the two boy she had waiting at home the 4-year-old and the 2-year-old. Both at home with her parents.

“Thank you Thane. I am so glad you are standing by Wedge and I.”

    “There is more Kendy.”

Kendy looked at him with surprise, I he going to put me on leave? What’s going on? She thought.

Ciena put her hand on Kendy’s leg when she saw her becoming anxious and looked at her with caring eyes.

“Commodore Idele,” Thane said suddenly sounding serious, “the job of being the commander of the flagship of the commander of the New Republic Fleet is no easy task. Which is why I am promoting you to the rank of Rear Admiral. Effective Immediately.”

Thane hands Kendy her new rank insignia, “Congratulations Admiral Idele!”

Ciena, Thane, and Wedge all clap together.

Kendy smiles, wiping away tears from her eyes.

“Thank you. Thank you so much.”

“You deserve it Kendy. You have been a great officer and an even better friend all these years. When you can no longer work due to the baby I will place you in a low stress staff position like we did with Ciena until the time comes when feel you and your doctor feel you can return to work.”

“Thank you Thane. I will not forget this.”

Thane smiled at her, Wedge, and Ciena.

“Go with Ciena. She will help you with whatever you need. Wedge, you come with me. I need to teach you some things,” Thane laughed as the women left the room.

    Chapter 20

6 Months Later – Hosnian Prime

“You look so great Kendy,” Ciena said as she strolled behind her and helped her with her dress, “I am so happy for you and Wedge.”

“Ciena, you and Thane have been so good to me and to us. I want to thank you for everything.”

Ciena laughed, “I am already your Maid of Honor. What else can you do for me?”

“Plenty. Wedge is very connected. You just name a job you want and he will make it happen.”

Ciena laughed again, “I already have the greatest job and the greatest family. And now we know it is about to get bigger.”

Kendy looked at her in shock, “Another baby?

“Yes another one. We hope this one is a girl. I am feeling a little outnumbered in the house.”

“Well you are. You have a Four-year-old and a Two-and-a-Half-year-old. I can see how you might want a break from boys.”

“Yeah they are terrors. But Thane is a great father. Even with his job he still makes time for us. I figured being in charge of the Navy would take all his time but it doesn’t seem it is. I think that unlike Ackbar he trusts his commanders in the field and he trusts their experience and judgement. Admiral Ackbar was a good tactical commander but he would always struggle with making decisions which would generally result in the Imperial Remnant getting away or being able to accomplish what they needed to.”

“Mon Mothma was that way,” Kendy said. “She always listened to those under her and trusted them enough to know they knew what they were saying.”

There was then a knock on the door to the room they were in.

Ciena goes to the door then walks back to Kendy, “They are ready for you whenever you are.”

Kendy took a deep breath and stood up. She was just beginning to show in her pregnancy which was unusual due to her small frame.

“Ciena,” Kendy said grabbing her by the arm before they both walked out. “I am glad you are here to share this day with me. You and Thane both. Thane as Wedge’s best man and you as my Maid of Honor.”

Ciean hugged her and they both walked out of the room. Looking forward Kendy saw Wedge standing there at the front of the Church with Lor San Tekka as the minister of the ceremony.

As the music started playing Thane and Ciena began to walk up the aisle and take their places.

The same happened with the rest of the bridal and groom’s party.

Finally, Kendy stood there, her father nowhere to be found to walk her down the aisle.

Thane, seeing this walked back to her, held out his arm, and walked her down the aisle to give her away to Wedge.

After they arrive Thane takes his place back next to Wedge and the Ceremony begins.

Thane glances into the gathered and sees a lot of people he knows.

One in particular was Thane’s best man from his wedding, Yendor.

Yendor had long since gotten out of military life and had returned to his home planet of Ryloth to assist the people.

Since Ryloth had chosen to not join the Republic and was an independent planet he was able to help the citizens of Ryloth better.

Thane shot him a smile and a nod.

While the ceremony progressed Ciena and Thane stood at their positions.

Thane then heard the words he was waiting for, “Do you have the ring?”

Thane then handed the ring to Wedge as Ciena did the same for Kendy.

    Thane began daydreaming again.

“I now pronounce you man and wife…” Says Lor San Tekka.

Thane snapped back to reality and again walked arm-in-arm with Ciena out of the Chapel.

They were heading to the speeder when the shot rang out.

Thane fell to the ground. Not dead but critically wounded.

The New Republic Special Forces who had been providing security for the event immediately rushed to Thane to cover him against any future attack until the medics arrived.

Ciena kneeled at his side surrounded by the guards and crying as she held Thane’s hand.

She looked him in the eyes, “Thane stay with me. Please stay with me. The children need their father and I need my husband.”

Thane didn’t answer. He couldn’t. The blaster bolt had punctured his lung causing incredible pain and causing the lung to slowly collapse.

The medics finally arrived and tended to Thane. Moving him to the hover gurney and putting him into the medical speeder.

They sped to the medical center with Ciena still holding his hand and several New Republic Special Forces soldiers with them.

The comm crackled, “Sir we have the shooter. He is a former Imperial Officer. Name is Dalven Kyrell.”

Hearing his brother’s name made Thane try to sit up, but the medic put him back down onto the gurney.

“Don’t move now. We need to work.”

“You don’t understand,” Ciena said, “that is his brother. His own brother tried to kill him.”

Thane nodded in agreement with Ciena. As they got near the medical center Thane began to lose consciousness.

The medics put the oxygen mask on him and monitored his vital signs.

The speeder stopped suddenly in front of the medical center and the doctors came running out.

Ciena stayed with Thane all the way into the medical center.

As Thane was rushed into emergency she was told she needed to wait in the waiting area.

Ciena thought about pulling rank on the military doctor that stood before her but she knew Thane wa in good hands.

As she sat down she saw Wedge and Kendy rushing into the medical center.

Kendy ran up to Ciena and hugged her.

“How’s he doing?” Kendy asked, “Well he’s still alive. They took him back. They wouldn’t let me back. Don’t they know who I am?”

“I’m sure they do Ciena but they need to be able to do what they need to do to save Thane’s life. He is in the best care don’t worry.”

Ciena sat down in the chairs with Kendy while Wedge went to talk to the doctors.

Over the next hour more friends and relatives poured in. Mon Mothma called in via Holo since she was away from Hosnian Prime to check-in on Thane’s situation.

“I am sending you some more Special Forces and my own Senate Guards to aid in security,” The Chancellor said to Ciena. “I will get there as soon as possible.”

“Your Excellency,” Ciena said trying to hold back tears, “Please you do not have to come. You are busy with Republic business which must be completed. I know Thane will understand.”

“I will send a representative,” said Mon Mothma. Ciena took it as this was not up for negotiation.

“Ok. Thank you,” Ciena “I appreciate your concern Chancellor.”

The doctor then walked out of the Emerency room. He headed towards Ciena and Kendy.

“Mrs. Kyrell. He is doing fine. We were able to save him and he is stable. He still cannot talk but he will be able to at a point. He can have visitors but we right now ask the family only please.”

Ciena walks towards the door while Kendy stays behind.

Ciena turns around and looks at her, “Well are you coming?”

“He said ‘Family Only.’ I am not family.”

Ciena walked back over to her, “Kendy, you are more family than anyone here. You are coming with me.”

Kendy looked over at Wedge who smiled and nodded to her.

She followed Ciena into the Emergency Room. They are led to the room where Thane is recovering.

They pass two Senate Guards and a group of Five Special Forces Soldiers outside the room. They salute as she and Kendy pass.

Thane is laying in the bed. His eyes closed but he wakes up when he hears Ciena enter.

Ciena can tell by the look on her face and by looking in her eyes that he is happy to see her.

He uses his hands and summons her over to him.

He pulled her in to hug her and offer her a kiss.

When she stood back up there were tears in her eyes. Here was her husband, the man she loved, laying here helpless in this hospital bed.

Listening to him breathing with the help of the oxygen on him brings back memories.

She remembers that day at Yavin. Going to pick up Vader.

Hearing that metallic breathing. It sent shivers down Ciena’s spine.

Then it hit her. She was in charge.

With Thane being out of commission the command of the Naval Forces fell to the next in line and the next down in rank. Her.

The first thing she wanted to do was launch a full scale retaliation against the Imperial Remnant or whatever they called themselves these days.

She picked up her comm and began contacting the different fleets to give them orders.

Thane grabbed her hand. She looked at him and he shook his head.

He said very softly, “No Ciena. They caught Dalven. I don’t think they had anything to do with this. He was mad at me about our parents and his inheritance. I think that is why he did this.”

“Belay those orders,” Ciena said into the comm unit. “Thane. I am so happy to be hearing you speak. I didn’t think I would ever hear your voice again.”

Kendy began to cry and so did Ciena.

As Thane looked at both of them he said in a very low whisper, “What about Wedge?”

“He’s here,” Kendy said. “He is out in the waiting room.”

“You should go. You both deserve this time to yourselves. I’ll be fine.”

“We are not going anywhere until we know you will be Ok Thane. Wedge is in agreement.”

“Ciena needs to take over the Navy while I recover so Wedge will need to take over the Academy. Take this time now while you still can. That is an order.”

Kendy bent over and kissed Thane on the cheek. He was one of her best friends and however much it killed her to do so she listened to him.

She looked at Ciena before she left, “Keep me updated. I want to know everything that happens. You also need to relax. You don’t need this stress. Granted you are only 3 months along but still. You need to be there for Thane and the boys. And be mindful of the baby.”

Thane nods at her and points to Kendy, “Listen to what she says Ciena. Don’t stress too much. We don’t want to hurt the baby.”

Just at that moment the doctor walked in followed by Wedge.

“Mrs. Kyrell? Good to meet you my name is Dr. Harter Kalonia. I will be treating your husband while he is here,” she looked at Thane, “You were shot by a sniper but luckily he missed vital organs whether it was intentional or not all that happened was a broken rib which then punctured your lung.”

Ciena asked, “Why can’t he talk?”

“When his lung was punctured and the force from the air getting forced out stressed his vocal chords. He will be able to speak again but it will take some time for them to heal. I suggest he talks as little as possible.”

“Other than that how is he?”

“He could be worse. I believe he will make a full recovery. Right now he needs his rest. I am asking that you come back tomorrow.”

Ciena looked at Thane. He nodded at her and she nodded back.

“I will see you tomorrow Thane. I love you.”

Ciena, Kendy, and Wedge then walked out of the room.

They saw other friends and relatives who had gathered in the waiting area.

Paron and Verine saw Ciena first and went up to hug her.

“He is fine. Stable and recovering. They aren’t allowing visitors anymore tonight but they said we could come back tomorrow. It was Dalven, his brother. He shot him.”

Ciena walked out of the Medical Center with Paron and Verine and returned to the Apartment on Hosnian Prime.

She was so exhausted she fell asleep immediately upon hitting the pillow.

Ciena woke up the next morning. She had forgotten what happened to Thane until she saw he was not in the bed next to her.

She cried for a few minutes then she composed herself and left the bedroom.

She found Paron in the kitchen preparing breakfast for her.

“Good morning honey. Did you sleep well?”

“I was exhausted. I fell asleep immediately. I did sleep well. When I woke up I remembered Thane wasn’t there and I cried.” Ciena started to tear up again and Paron went to hug her.

“Honey he will be Ok. Don’t worry. He has guards at the hospital and his brother is in custody. Right now you just need to focus on your job and let Thane recover.”

“You’re right pappa. I just love him so much I miss him. But the best way to help him now is to focus on work. Hopefully he will be back to work in six months otherwise the Navy will be without a leader when I have the baby.”

Paron hugs her again, “Please eat before you go. You need your strength.”

“Ok Pappa,” Ciena flipped on the holo-net only to see video playing over and over of Thane’s attempted assassination. It made her cry even more.

“Why do I need to re-live this all over the Holo-Net?” Ciena said as she was crying in her father’s arms once more.

“Thane is the leader of the New Republic Navy. He is a very public figure and so something like this makes headline news. But you heard the doctor, he is going to be fine.”

Ciena stopped crying and ate her breakfast in total silence with Paron watching her from across the table.

“What am I going to tell the children?” she finally says to her father. “They won’t understand.”

“Tell them their father is away on business and will be back soon.”

“I don’t want to lie to my children.”

“Honey. Sometimes in order to protect their children, parents need to tell some lies to their children. If they ask, tell them that.”

Ciena sighed, “I don’t like it but I guess you are right. It is something I need to do.”

Ciena rose from the table to take her dishes to the sink.

Paron grabbed them from her, “You go get dressed. We are going to the medical center to see Thane.

Ciena smiled and walked back into the bedroom to get ready.

Snoke sat on his throne. In front of him, the holo-net broadcast the attempted assassination of the Grand Admiral of the New Republic Navy.

“Kyrell failed My Lord,” said Thrawn as he walked into the room.

“Yes I know. I see it on the holo-net. We need to get to him. We need to find out what went wrong. Did he miss on purpose or was it something else?”

“I will dispatch some agents at once.”

“NO! My people will take care of this. This needs to be handled covertly. If the Republic realizes this was a conspiracy to eliminate their leaders, they would go to war and wipe us out. Kyrell is a sacrifice we might just have to take,” he puts his hand on his head, “Go, I need time to think.”

Thrawn bows then turns and exits the room.

“Who do I send to deal with this situation?” Snoke says out loud to himself after Thrawn has left the room.

As Ciena and Paron get closer to Thane’s room they can see the guards at the door.

They recognize her and render the proper courtesy before returning to their previous positions.

As Ciena and Paron enter they come face-to-face with two Senate Guards in their blue flowing robes and helmets.

Standing there by Thane’s bed was no other than Leia Organa-Solo.

Ciena froze when she saw her. Leia on the other hand came over to her and embraced her.

“I am so sorry this happened my dear,” Leia said as she hugged Ciena tightly.

“Thank you Senator Organa-Solo. I am honored and surprised by your presence here.”

“My dear please call me Leia. I never took my husband’s last name when we were married so it is just Leia Organa still.”

“I am so sorry. I was told otherwise.”

Leia laughed, “Yes Ackbar always liked to call me that. It’s fine. I came here today to visit the Admiral. It is a travesty that someone would attempt to take the life of the Naval Commander of the New Republic. This has Imperial Remnant written all over it.”

“His brother was an officer in the Imperial Navy. He was the one who shot him.”

“That is appalling. We need to question him and find out who put him up to this. It had to have been someone. I was given guards by the Senate because Mon Mothma is afraid this could be an attack on the leadership of the New Republic”

“Well he did have words with Thane when their parents died. My father was governor of Jelucan at the time. He helped Thane claim his family’s estate while blocking out his brother. He wanted his money I guess.”

“I doubt anyone would do this just over family money. There is a larger picture here. We have to get to the bottom of this.”

Ciena looked over at Thane who was sleeping in the bed. She knew Leia was right. But how would they get Dalven to talk?

She certainly couldn’t do it. Dalven already hated her. The Force only knows what he would do to her if she went to question him.

As if reading her mind Leia said, “Don’t worry you won’t have to question him. I have the right person in mind. Right now all you have to worry about it filling in for him until he recovers enough to resume his duties. I will leave you alone so you can be with him. If you need anything don’t hesitate to call me Ciena.”

“Thank you Leia. I appreciate your concern and I will do that if I need anything.”

They hugged again and Leia and her guards left the room.

Ciena went over and sat next to Thane. As she watched him sleep she remembered back to their life together.

Meeting that day in the hanger, flying together, going to the Academy together, and then their first kiss aboard the Devastator after the battle of Yavin.

The events of their life flashed in her head. She asked the Force to protect Thane and asked it to help her through the hard time.

She put her hand on Thane and cried.

Thane awoke and saw her crying. He grabbed her hand and kissed it.

Even though he was silent, the look in his eyes told her everything she needed to know.

Thane loved her, and she loved him.

“The children are asking where you are. My father says I should tell them you have been deployed and should be back soon. What should I do?”

Thane looked at her. He wanted to see his children. But he also knew they wouldn’t understand.

Thane reached onto his table and took out his datapad.

He wrote on it and handed it to Ciena.

She looked at it and nodded.

Listen to your father, was Thane’s response to her.

It was about this time when Dr. Kalonia came in.

“Oh Mrs. Kyrell, I’m glad you are here. I have good news. Thane should be able to go home within a few days. The swelling has gone down in his throat and so he should be able to talk. Hopefully by tomorrow we will know for sure about the swelling.”

Thane, hearing this news said in a low voice, “That’s great news doctor. I look forward to going home and getting back to work.”

“I didn’t say I was clearing you for work. That will be at least a month. It could be as many as six.”

“Ciena will be having the baby in six months. I need to be back to work before then.”

“I will see what I can do, but I will not clear you unless I believe you can do the job.”

“I understand,” Thane said as he strained to talk.

“Thane stop talking. You are going to make it worse,” Ciena said to him.

“Ok,” Thane said as he leaned in to kiss her.

Paron Ree was sitting in the waiting area while Ciena was in Thane’s room. He had seen the guards when they came in to the area but what he had not seen were the other troopers patrolling the halls.

    The place was a fortress.

The Republic sees this is a larger threat than they originally thought. Good. He thinks to himself.

“Governor Ree?” He heard a voice behind him.

When he turned around he saw Chancellor Mon Mothma herself.

“Your Excellency,” He said as he noticed her, “Unfortunately I am no longer in politics. I am devoting some time to devote to my family in my old age.”

“You are hardly old Governor. I was saddened to hear of your departure. I would have backed a nomination of Senator. We need good people in the Senate.”

“I appreciate the offer but like I said I am out of the political game. I didn’t even want to be governor. I was just the only person to stick around after the Empire was defeated on the planet so I was nominated. I never thought I would actually win it.”

“Well I heard Jelucan prospered under your administration.”

“That is true I guess. I did authorize the export of Fogstone from our planet. Better mining than what the Empire did. Less pollution too. I also spearheaded the cleanup movement.”

“Yes I am sorry the Republic couldn’t offer more assistance, but we still had limited resources at the time.”

“It is quite alright. Is the Republic taking this situation seriously?”

“Quite seriously. We had an attempted assassination of a member of Republic Command. Any one of us could be next. Security has been increased and I was going to get in contact with High Admiral Kyrell to put the Navy on high alert.”

“Ciena is actually is in the room with Thane right now.”

“Good I need to talk to both of them. I will go now. Have a good day Governor.”

    “Same here Chancellor.”

Ciena was sitting in the room talking to Thane and Dr. Kalonia when the door opened and Mon Mothma entered.

    Ciena immediately came to attention.

“As you were Admiral. I am glad you are both here.”

“I wanted to be the first to wish you a speedy recovery Thane. Your new job will be waiting when you recover.”

“Wait,” Ciena said, “his new job?”

“Yes you heard me right Admiral. I have come to realize that Thane’s qualifications are not meant for larger starships. They are meant for smaller fighters. When the New Republic Navy was formed we combined the Navy and Starfighter Corps into one. I am now undoing that. I need someone to lead the Starfighter Corps. General Kyrell do you Accept this?” She said looking at Thane.

    Thane nodded.

“Good. Now as for you Ciena, The Senate voted unanimously after recent events to approve a new leader for the New Republic Navy. Congratulations Grand Admiral Kyrell.”

Ciena was stunned. She was the new Commander of the Republic Navy? This was a dream come true.

Thane couldn’t help smiling. He was so happy for Ciena.

Thane said, “Congratulations Ciena. You deserve every bit of this. This should be an easier job now than having to worry about the Academy and take care of the children. Now we will both be able to do so as being on Command has its perks.” He smiles at Ciena.

“You are sounding much better Thane,” Ciena says as she smiles at him and kisses him.

“Congratulations to you both!” Dr. Kalonia says enthusiastically, “I guess I have become important now as the physician for two members of Republic Command.”

    She and Ciena both laugh.

Dr. Kalonia then leaves the room.

“Well I must be going as I have things I need to get back to. General, Admiral.”

“Ma’am,” Ciena says as she stands at attention and salutes.”

“As you were Admiral. You have a lot of work ahead of you. You might want to get started.”

Mon Mothma then left the room.

Paron Ree watched as Mon Mothma left the medical center.

On her way out she ran into Leia who was on her way back in to check on one of her aides who had been injured in the Senatorial Offices.

He observed a conversation between hers and Dr. Kalonia. He couldn’t tell but he thought they could be talking about Thane since Kalonia gesturing in the direction of his room.

He wondered what they were talking about. When all of a sudden Ciena emerged from the room and walked over to him.

Ciena seemed happier than she had been since Thane was shot.

    “Pappa I have good news!”

    “Please tell me honey.”

“Thane was moved to Starfighter Command and I have been put in charge of the Navy. The position that was vacated by Thane when he was moved to Starfighter Command.”

Paron could see the joy in Ciena’s eyes.

She looked happier than she had ever been. He realized why. She had made it.

It had always been her dream to Command. She wanted to Command a ship of her own and she had done that and more.

Now she was in charge of multiple fleets.

“Thane also will be released in a few days. He is speaking now, which is good but he still needs to take it easy. I just feel good about lying to the kids.”

“I’m so glad he is going to be released. Let’s just go home. You will feel better there,” Paron said as he and Ciena left the medical center.

Two Days Later – Hosnian Prime – Medical Center

“It feels so nice to be getting out of here,” Thane said as he got up from the bed after getting dressed.

He felt a little lightheaded but he was told that was natural after being in the situation he was.

He walked out of the Medical Center with Ciena and returned to their apartment where Paron and Verine were waiting for them along with their children.

He was so happy to see them when they came running up to hug him.

It was at this time that he realized that his family was his life.

“I guess Mon Mothma was right,” Thane said.

What do you mean Thane?” Ciena asked.

“I did love what I was fighting for more. The freedom we have to now be here. Leaders in our own right. Together with a family. A loving family, bound by love and honor.”

Ciena smiled, “Yes Thane. That’s right. We might have loved each other during the War. But we will always love the cause more. Thank you for making me see it Thane. Thank you for my redemption.”

The story was getting too long. I will continue this story but I will make a new thread for it.

I hope you enjoyed this Episode. We will do some time jumping in the next story of a few years. That one should be significantly shorter.

I thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed the story.
