Anyone have some anger management strategies? I just kind want to HULK SMASH something right now.

Basically, I was at my mother's house quilting today and my aunt comes over with her STUPID PATHOLOGICAL LIAR of a new boyfriend [he claims to be a wounded Afghanistan veteran (all my searches come up with nothing except for a badly written news article, that his ex-wife commented on, explaining it was all fake), is a RCMP officer, is really rich with a Mercedes and a whole bunch of expensive guitars in storage, and he knows and has sung with George Canon] and I just wanted to punch him in the face. He's one of those people who assume, because I am physically disabled, I am also mentally disabled. So I told my mother my roommate left her phone in my car, and just left. But I still want to punch him in his tiny face because he has my grandparents and aunt enamored with him. He will be at my uncle's birthday this weekend and I'm not sure will be able to stop myself from decking him.

So, yeah. I need to get some anger out.

WHAT THE HELL. SCREW ANGER MANAGEMENT, TAKE ME WITH YOU TO PUNCH HIM. I HATE MANIPULATIVE LIARS.
(Disclaimer: borderline personality disorder is in my future, I'm from Balkans, I experienced this 3-4 times with people some of whom had multiple identities etc, so no, I cannot be calm!)

I have a sixth sense for pathological liars who claim they're a bunch of things they are not and while it's dead funny how they think nobody will google their alleged greatness (location and/or language is not a barrier), the fact that they keep on doing this and that they have absolutely.no.conscience and emotion - they keep on lying, lying, lying.

That said, to that kind, disabilities, personal backstories etc mean NOTHING, essentially nothing. They will rebuff anything emotional with their hot and cold games and they see everybody other than themselves as dumb.

Is there a way for the rest of the family to take your aunt as far away from that moron as possible? He can only get worse and come up with more and more lies.

Go ahead. Punch him. You'll feel better. ;)

(Okay, not really, but only because you will wind up in jail, when he should be the one in some frigging gulag).

Briannakin, just expose him for the fraud he is, with detailed evidence, in front of everybody. The look on his face will be satisfaction enough.

I have a friend who was actually in Afghanistan with the Canadian Forces, but he lives in Alberta IIRC. He ran the Duty & Valour wiki, though, so perhaps he'd be willing to help prove this fraudster wrong if you sent him an e-mail. I can send you his Twitter via PM if you're interested.

If you want to go legal, and if this is illegal in Canada, I am curious how far "impersonating a police officer" goes.

Do you have to dress in the uniform, or is what the boyfriend is doing, enough to invite official censure?

My own anger management coping mechanism in the first decade of this century, was a real-time strategy PC game called Total Annihilation.

Ask the guy for details. I don't know how it is in Canada, but the easiest way to figure out a fake in the US is ask him, "What was your MOS (Military occupation specialty code)?" Or use some other common acronyms that are not usually thrown around in movies. If a guy says he was a combat infantry man and you say, "Cool. I forgot, what's the MOS for that?" and they don't say 11B (I think there is also an 11C) then they are lying.

Speaking of overwhelming urges to punch people... When I first met my cousin's now-ex-husband, my instinct was to strangle him. Instantaneous urge to kill him. Never experienced it before in my life. I literally had to leave the room so I didn't attack him.

We later discovered he was a registered sex offender who had raped small children.

I don't know your country off the top of my head, but if he's American, I'm sure the Stolen Valor organization would love to meet him. (Apparently, Canada has a sister organization.)

Goood to know that my desire to punch him in the mouth is justified.

As far as my sister and I have been able to dig up, he was in Afghanistan, but only served 1 tour, not like the 10 he claims (ad he was not a helicopter specialist). And there is no evidence that he was in any IED attack because the ONE IED incident the regiment he claims to be a part of, had a 100% casualty rate and according to some of stuff we have found that his ex-wife posted on local news articles about him, he NEVER mentioned an IED attack in the 2 years they were married.

So, yeah, Goodwood you can PM me your friend's twitter account if you would like, but twitter is kinda annoying for private messages (your friend would have to be following me before I could privately contact him).

As for the impersonating a police officer, unfortunately, I think the person has to do something in order for it to be illegal. They can't do much about morons who just like to lie.

THIS is why I don't want to bother exposing him. My step-dad befriended a guy who turned out to be a pathological liar (similar type lies - was in the Navy, despite being born with club feet, played with Nirvana, despite being like 12 when Kurt Cobain died) and no amount of poking holes in the guy's story could make him admit he was full of it, so my step-dad just stopped hanging around the bantha shavit.

So I'm hoping my aunt and grandparents (thankfully my mother has seen the red flags and agrees with me that this guy is up to no good) realize how moronic and manipulative this guy is. And if they don't, I can't wait until my cousin meets him (she lives in another province and I'm not sure if her mother has told her that she is seeing someone). My cousin is the type of person who would 100% call him out and punch him in the face. I love her.

Buuut, my sister's boyfriend will be quizzing him on his guitars this weekend.

Edit: thanks whiskers - they do have a Canadian site. I'm going to do some reading.

I think in the case of pathological liars they actually believe what they say. I knew somebody like that. Everything he said caused you to focus on him, and always put him in the role of the "poor victim." You know, after a certain number of Horrible Things in one person's life you begin to think maybe there's something else going on, especially when there are no collaborating details.

I really think he believed his lies. They were real to him.

    Briannakin Shoot him.

Okay, no, don't, you'd get in trouble. Just leave a foot/broomstick/cat lying in the right place at the right time and trip him over.

In other news, home sweet home. 32°C, light breeze and sunshine. Yes, there are places in this world where it's summer for real.

Liars make life harder for everyone that actually experienced something and to sort the truth from the lies. If he was here I know at least three people that would set him straight for lying about his military career. If possible he should be reported.

My mom has come up with untrue stories at times, and created false memories. Each lie was to make her look like the poor ever-suffering victim and everyone else around her was a giant sack of *****. Growing up, I never picked up on it, because she was careful with crafting them to be exaggerated versions of stuff BroNar and I actually witnessed. When I realized how full of **** she was, it was when she wasn't so careful.

She made up this story that my dad had thrown her down a flight of stairs and that she had her arm in a cast, and that BroNar and I signed it. She swears that this is true. It never happened because she had never broken her arm and never wore a cast. Dad never laid a hand on her. But, she lives by this and used it as "evidence" for their divorce. When she tried convincing BroNar and I that it happened, we realized that it was a crock and that she was playing us for years.

Yeah, I agree that he probably live so much in their lies that they become the truth to them. This guy definitely wants all the spotlights on him.

I contacted Stolen Valor Canada and unfortunately, because of their mandate, they can only investigate someone imposing as a veteran, not a veteran who is embellishing their service record or claiming that suffered injuries when they didn't (because of military privacy laws). They suggested I contact law enforcement but I'm not sure if there's enough evidence for it.

But apparently last night he told my aunt and mother (after I had skidded out of there) that he sang on stage with George Canyon at some Country music Jamboree in 2007.... a time when he should have been in Afghanistan??? Later my mom looked up the event and he was nowhere to be found  Sadly, my aunt and grandparents just can't see past the bantha shavit.

However, the fortunate thing about being an adult is that I don't have to be around him like EVER. I may not even go to my uncle's birthday party this weekend (not that I wanted to go anyways).

[edit]: But I am sorry that you had to go through that with your mom, Trak. Some lies are harmless and are just annoying, but some lies really manipulate people. Unfortunately, this guy falls in the later half too.

Anyways! I'm glad your home Chyntuck!!!!! It's 27 C here and OMG THE SUN IS SO HOT IT BUUUUUURRRRNS!

Sorry to everyone having to deal with pathological liars. I used to work with someone who was just so manipulative and an expert in revisionist history. It wears you down.

When I read he was actually a veteran I knew nothing would be done. If they started investigating every soldier who embellished their military record everybody in the American Legion and VFW would be in trouble. I knew a lot of real combat veterans. It seems the ones who are truly war heroes usually don't talk much about their military service. They know they rock, they don't need to prove it to others.

My grandfather once was dating a (40 years younger) pathological liar and I could never understand how for such a smart man he couldn't see through her lies. The biggest one was that she was in med school but she got to skip the first two years because she was a nurse. That's not how medical schools work, at least not around here.

I had my first actual day at my new job yesterday, I'm doing my best to keep a positive outlook but I was not happy; I wanted to bang my head against the wall about 100 times. The most annoying thing from a personal point of view was that no one ever bothered to tell me we actually work 13 hour shifts, not 12 which is the standard. I only learned that when I asked what times were the min/max for clocking in and out and that was after I had to ask someone where to clock in because no one bothered to show me where the time clock was hidden. In fact, the only reason I know anything about how anything in the hospital works is because I knew to ask, not because there is any rhyme or reason to their 'orientation'.

Most people that work in a medical capacity at hospitals work 12 hour shifts so I'm used to doing that. But it was the fact that no one bothered to tell me I'd have to work an extra hour (which doesn't sound like much, but when you don't sit down very often in the day, that extra hour can be brutal!) and I didn't find out until I was already there and expecting to leave around 7pm, not 8pm.
