I love Breckenridge! I wouldn't mind trying that Pumpkin Spice Latte.

Today was the start of the epic and amazing Holiday Ale Fest in downtown Portland. I stopped by, picked up my glass and had 3 tastes, including an excellent Four Roses Bourbon barrel aged stout from Fort George, which was to die for. Their beer is always incredibly well made, even if I am not a fan of the style. Friday is the day off work to go to the fest all day long. Then I will probably go back on Sunday for the mellow vibe with all the die hard craft beer fans. LOVE this time of year.

 

Tried Saporro Black Lager.

Although not a craft beer it was good.

 

Has anyone tried the Vanilla Hazelnut Marshal Zhukov's Imperial Stout from Cigar City? We got a few bottles, so some coworkers and I split it last night. I liked it, one guy loved it, and the other HATED it. So odd for us to have such mixed reactions to a beer, especially one we were all super jazzed about.

 

Sigh. No. Can't get Cigar City out here. I've got a peer that lives in Florida that I'm trying to convince to smuggle me some Cigar City when we fly together for a team meeting. So far, to no avail. But that one sounds incredibly amazing.

I finished my Pumpkin Stash last night with Denver Brewing Company's "Hey Pumpkin". It was probably the most "in your face" pumpkin flavor I've ever had in a beer - in both good and bad ways. I'd reach for it again, but it's certainly not something I'd just want to have around. I'd need to be in the mood for a pumpkin beer.

 

A guy I was chatting with yesterday on the last day of the Holiday Ale Festival (sadface) was raving about Central Waters. I checked out their site and man their barrel aged stuff looked amazing!

 

I've never had a bad barrel aged brew!

 

Oh god I have. Barrel aging does not work for all types of beer. And it can be done badly.

Bottle. But I'll take tap when ever I can.

 

Speaking of barrel-aged beers...My bar has a dumb draught list right now. Bourbon County Brand Stout 2014 through 2016, Bourbon County Barleywine 2016, Arrogant Bastard (meh but we had to throw something up there and we're low on kegs right now) and then on the totally opposite side we have a hop explosion with Other Half/Kent Falls Crazy Talk (brett IPA), Other Half/Half Acre Fully Frothed (DIPA), Other Half/Monkish Blowin' up the Spot (TIPA), and Founders Harvest Ale. We generally have a really balanced draught list but this is just silly right now. People were kind of overwhelmed by it all tonight.

I think that might be something. No brewery is going to go to the expense and process of bottling and distributing a risky or weird or even bad barrel aged beer. But I think they would show it at an ale festival or maybe even tap it in their taproom. Who knows? Some weirdo might like it... So maybe that explains why I've had some dodgy ones and you've had a flawless experience so far. I think I can say I've never had a bottled barrel aged beer that was anything less than great.

 

So what's it called? I may go one day but the space lanes between Jersey and Queens are horrid!

 

Just had a Winter Storm, from Heavy Seas brewing. An imperial ESB. Very solid beer. Pairs well with football.
