Animated Shorts Official Star Wars: Forces of Destiny Discussion Thread

Its true that they are basically commercials for a new product line, but many fans, after hearing the hype, thought there would be interesting information that added to established canon. I appreciate them for what they are, so in that regard I do like most of them. The marketing didn't make me interested in the product line though, as the dolls are a bit much for my collecting habits (though I do love female action figures). It would be interesting to see some animated figures in the standard 3.75 scale, but that doesn't appear to be happening.

 

I'll be collecting the dolls. My bedroom is female SW themed with posters of Rey, Ahsoka and Jyn and also Jessica Pava. I love strong female characters.

Looks like there's a pretty big chance that Padme will be in her pilot outfit in one of the upcoming FoD shorts.

 

There's only one true Padme doll. The rest manufactured are decoys.

 

When is Forces of Destiny starting back up? I'm having withdrawal symptoms.

 

I think not till sometime in the fall.

 

Oh, that's disappointing I cannot wait till the Autumn.

They really are pushing this whole Forces of Destiny thing.

I'm glad it looks like its successful, however I wish they would not make it canon. The stories are just too short and undeveloped, and they're potentially creating huge problems for future continuity.

 

For example?

 

I really don't see how. The episodes are small in timing and act as "deleted scenes" from established canon material.

 

Beasts of Echo Base ties in to an actual deleted scene from ESB, and Ewok Escape can almost count as a deleted scene from ROTJ.

But the others?
The Stranger has to stand on it's own as a short story of Rey.
Bounty Of Trouble, The Imposter Inside and Padawan Path all tie in somewhere between episodes of TCW or Rebels, but we don't know their exact placements (yet) so again, they have to stand on their own.
When this happens, these stories were simply too short to me. They may be canon, but they can be retconned just as easily as they were introduced.

Oh and before you ask: I skipped the FoD episodes set after ROTJ, so I can't include these in my explanation.

 

For example, there's already the mess with Sabine's hair and the episode with Jyn is out of character in my opinion, especially if you read Rebel Rising before you see that episode. And Chewie being hugged by Wampa? That's just ridiculous. Imagine if you would see this exact moment, but as live action. Or the episode with Padme and the bomb...

This show is just too much oriented for young audiences to take seriously for me.

 

I saw somewhere that in the background of RO when young Jyn is packing, she had a toy tooka. So I do not find the connection with older Jyn saving a tooka for a little girl that out of character.

 

But I can't wait till October..

 

You'd think they would want these episodes in circulation and running on TV while the products were hitting shelves - these shorts are basically advertising commercials after all... Is the second wave of products coming out in October as well? Perhaps they're going to release more episodes and restock shelves for the holiday buzz...

 

Ah, October might be them pushing TLJ.

 

Curious, does anybody know why Leia was voiced by Shelby Young, not Julie Dolan?
