Solo [Official Info] Solo: A Star Wars Story - May 25, 2018

This sets up the following one-liner from my spouse when I want to see the movie for the 7th time:

"This time, you're watching Solo...solo."

That'll make her happy. So I'm happy.

 

I'm fine with the name. I expected a name like that.

 

Bowen will be watch Solo 50 times solo.

 

How could they stoop Solo to use this title?

 

My brother and I would joke how early in his career Howard would always have one word titles. Solo.

 

To some fans, if Star Wars isn't super-complex, busy or overwrought, it's "not creative." Simple can be better. And IMO, this is pretty much a perfect title.

 

Damn. He began shooting on July 29. October 17? That's 111 days. Of course, they had days off. But that's 16 weeks, whereas at first it was 3.5 weeks of finishing shooting and 5 weeks of reshooting. Of course, a lot was unusable and they had to delete a character and add a new one. Officially they're releasing 5.25.18. Can they do it? And if so, that's only 3 months after TLJ leaves theaters and 19 months before IX.

Not surprised that RH gets solo directing credit for Solo.

 

My wild guesses: sequels to Solo (a trilogy), a different anthology film, a non-SW film, or (my favorite option) sequel to Willow.

 

I wonder if there is competition going on for who will be the next JJ Abrams. To be the person who sets the tone of the next trilogy.

Would Ron be so bad as that guy?

 

This was my preferred title. Glad they went with it. Simple but effective.

 

Sad the B-Movie Schlock no longer is an attribute for SW.

Would have loved a title such as "The Adventures Of Solo" or something campy.

 

There is no next trilogy. And Howard isn't the man. A lot of flack Disney/LFL has receivers for choosing old white guys, replacing younger white guys and not hiring women of any race or age group.

 

What if there's a Rap theme song "I'm Solo" by Maklemore (I figure it has to be rap, and it has to be by a pasty white guy).
Would that make it B-movie enough?

 

Same. Solo sounds too sleek and modern.

 

A) there will be another trilogy. People like their extended soap operas.
2) I don't care who makes it.
iii) I just wanted to write iii.

 

Yes. Howard may be fine as a fixer, but he's far too milquetoast to entrust with setting the tone of a new trilogy. IMO.

 

I like the way they seem to be giving each of the standalones their own font.

 

While Howard isn't likely to take on the Abrams role, he shouldn't be precluded because of his age or skin colour.

Lucasfilm have experimented with up-and-comers (the anthology films, IX) and they've shown to be incompatible. They need experienced franchise filmmakers, most of whom happen to be men.

Whoever's best the for the job should be the one to get it, regardless of sex, race or age. It's likely to be a white, older male because of industry trends. There's nothing wrong with that if it results in a good product.

 

It's just those stupid "single last name/first name" as a title sounds so bland and boring that if someone told me a movie was called Solo opened up, I wouldn't have batted an eye. I loved Logan but they could have at least done Old Man Logan or something along he lines of that.

"Boba Fett"

"Yoda"

"Ben Kenobi"

I hope if they do a movie with these characters they will create better titles.

 

Disney doesn't seem to like any of the new kids on the block. Colin was thrown out, Lord and Miller were fired too and Gareth had his movie forcibly changed by another person. I don't think they have faith in these directors at all with the exception of Rian and Abrams(who don't seem to want to cross the line).

 

Obviously it should go to the best person. And are there any directors who aren't old white men out there? KK a few years ago said she had hoped to hire a woman director. Of course, she'll hire anyone based upon their record and compatibility. At one time that seemed to be Trevorrow.

But as the GFFA continues with more spinoffs after IX I wonder if we'll always get a new director each film as we've had with one exception with the post-Dalton Bond films, or will there be an exception like Mendes.

Rain is the one exception with Disney SW--young, independent, and no problems.

 

I like that they're calling it 'Solo: A Star Wars Story'. I hope they call the Obi-Wan movie 'Kenobi: A Star Wars Story'. I really like the use of their last names.

 

We were all over this **** back in Sept 2016. I wonder who was the first to predict 'Solo'

Anyway, perfect title. Must be rare to have a title that would really annoy the character. "Did you just call me Solo!?"

 

I'd like to see STAR WARS: A STAR WARS STORY. It could be a documentary.
