Watching ESB in my lead up to TLJ and I had an inspirational thought, the moment where Leia and Lando rescue Luke from Cloud City, after his duel with Vader, they hug at the entrance to the MF cockpit, maybe its just me, but if it was me and I was director I would be copying/paying homage to that scene ... Especially since Rian did say something about Luke and Leia possibly being together in the MF.

How relieved I am to learn from Leia's Visual Dictionary page up there that the MD-15C medical droid has a non-threatening face.

    These are important details.

Weren’t the rumors saying that Leia would spend most of the movie in coma? Because if she is only out for the second act (which is what sounds like it’ll happen to me), then that means she is still there for 2/3 of the movie. Which makes her absence NOT “most of the movie”. ;)

No that's not correct, the coma rumour was one of the few I broke on here and it was only that she would be critically wounded and end up in a coma. MSW and a few others added to it afterwards. As far as I was made aware, Leia would be wounded and left in a coma during a space battle in which her ship was attacked, so I can't confirm or deny the rest.

Carrie Fisher has some unforgettable moments as Leia. @HamillHimself is crushing as a Luke who's more broken and lost than your action figures from the '70s. #TheLastJedi

Well, since I've heard a TON about this scene now where she gets sucked out into the vacuum of space and uses the Force to help get back inside the ship...honestly, that sounds awesome to me. Not sure why people are hating on that.

Sounds like some more realistic, real-universe type stuff to me. Gravity or Interstellar type stuff. I'm a science/space lover, so I'm naturally into that stuff. And it's not actually that unrealistic...you can survive out in space for a few seconds/minutes, provided you don't try to breath and don't suffocate yourself or float away, obviously. If this scene is true and was pulled off well, I think it will be incredible to watch.

    Reviews are beginning...

All the same, it’s hard to take your eyes off Hamill and Fisher every time you see them on screen. Sure, it was great to see Harrison Ford back as Han Solo the last time around, but Luke and Leia have always been the heart and soul of the Star Wars saga. Here, the Skywalker siblings bring a huge amount of gravitas to the proceedings.

Having made little more than a cameo in The Force Awakens, Fisher gets a lot more screen time here (which still isn’t quite enough, if you ask me) and manages to steal every single scene she is in.
One can’t help but get emotional whenever Fisher is on-screen. It’s not just the knowledge that this is the final time we’ll be seeing her, but also the fact that the feisty, strong-willed Leia we knew and loved all these years ago has become so war-weary.

Now the leader of the Resistance, she is exhausted from the long years of fighting, but still pushes through despite the odds and her own personal demons, a state of mind reflected by Fisher’s masterful performance

Also RJ on Carrie, from a new interview:

StarWars.com: I wanted to ask about Carrie Fisher. Obviously, that’s the unfortunate side of this, that she’s not here right now. I was thinking about how she always seemed to embrace her legacy as Leia. What was she like on set and what were her thoughts on playing Leia again at this time?

Rian Johnson: Yeah, she was very conscious of what Leia meant to the fans, and especially to the female fans. That was something she really held on her shoulder. She was very aware of that and always would, as we were going over the scenes, bring that to bear. And always come back to the strength of the Leia character and what was important, and what girls growing up saw in her. So, yeah, that was something she was very aware of. And on set she was a delight. She gives a really beautiful performance in the film, and emotionally she goes to some places Leia hasn’t really gone to before. But she was singing show tunes and dancing with crew members. She was lovely.

Let’s take a moment to talk about Fisher. She is luminous here. Every time she’s on screen, it’s impossible to look away, and she is as tough, loving, and wily as we would ever want our Leia to be. We drink her scenes in, uncertain if we’ll see her in Star Wars again. Her part is quite central, and it’s impossible to imagine this universe without her. She is responsible for at least 3/4 of the tears trickling down my face during this movie. She, and Leia, are the shining light in The Last Jedi that all characters who dream of defeating the Dark Side look to for guidance.

While I expected to be sad at the sight of Fisher, I did not expect to spend whole parts of the screening trying unsuccessfully not to cry. I am not a movie crier, but there you have it.

Ultimately, despite all its bold colors, winning performances, and many moving parts, the movie belongs to Fisher, who is resplendent.

The late, great Carrie Fisher delivers a magnificent and wryly funny final turn as General Leia Organa, who shares one of “The Last Jedi’s” finest scenes with Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo, portrayed in lavender-haired splendor by Laura Dern.
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/goin...0a9770d9a3e_story.html?utm_term=.ac5d93159123

The cast from the classic films also return in fine form. Mark Hamill does a great job with Luke. He’s tragic and sad, but his reluctance to be pulled back into the conflict leads up to some stunning moments later in the story. Carrie Fisher is also great as Leia. It’s a bit sad seeing her on the big screen after her passing, and almost every line she delivers feels like it references that. But she is treated with a lot of respect in the film and she even has some surprising twists along the way. There is also a nice acknowledgement of her in the credits.

Even the extraordinary cast members have less room here than in “The Force Awakens” to let their personalities show; the movie’s cinematic fabric is cut too tight, the frame is too constraining, the story lines hold them stiff and still like so many guy wires. (Fisher, however, manages to stand out and apart, like James Mason in Joseph Mankiewicz’s “Julius Caesar,” merely by talking.)
    https://www.newyorker.com/culture/richard-brody/star-wars-the-last-jedi-reviewed

Perhaps she is stepping up loyally when Leia (Carrie Fisher in a touching and deep farewell performance) is unable to hold onto her command, Possibly she is pursuing a hidden agenda.
    http://www.startribune.com/star-war...wists-rivaling-the-classic-trilogy/463679073/

Johnson’s script does a better job than most sequels of giving the audience both what it wants and what it didn’t know it wanted. The movie leans hard into sentiment, most of it planted in the previous installment, some related to the unexpected passing of one of its leads (Fisher—thank goodness they gave her a lot of screen time here, and thrilling things to do).
    https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/star-wars-the-last-jedi-2017

And the late Carrie Fisher, in her final performance, brings great gravity to her portrayal of Leia. The movie is dedicated to her.
    https://www.seattletimes.com/entertainment/movies/star-wars-the-last-jedi-a-great-force-is-with-us/

Everyone gets a hero moment, a scene that showcases their respective, resplendent badassery, even, especially, Fisher's Leia — though hers does seem to belong to a wholly different film franchise (you'll know the one).
    https://www.npr.org/sections/monkey...-last-jedi-introduces-welcome-shades-of-g-rey

Thankfully, we also get plenty of time to spend with friends who were introduced in The Force Awakens. Poe (Oscar Isaac) leaps onto the scene with the same lovable, cocky arrogance we saw when he was first introduced, and he's also given room to grow -- with a lot of help from the always wonderful General Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher, to whose memory this film is dedicated). She may have one of the more cheesy moments in The Last Jedi (her moment in space had me rolling my eyes, cool as it looked), but she commands every scene she's in.

The Rebels’ quest for survival, under the trenchant guidance of General Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher, whose final role is a study in rousing confidence)

With due respect to all the spectacular stuff that will feed the planet’s appetite for a new episode—and to the solemnity of Mark Hamill’s battle-weary Luke—“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” lives most vividly in two of its women: General Leia Organa, who’s played by Carrie Fisher for the last time (mostly, and poignantly, in the film’s turbulent present, though also in a flash of hologram that reminds us how bright and dear Princess Leia was when we first met her all those decades ago); and Daisy Ridley’s Rey, the former scavenger of unknown parentage who is the story’s driving force—as distinct from Force. Unswerving in her...https://www.wsj.com/articles/star-w...-and-angst-of-galactic-proportions-1513098867

“The Last Jedi” has lots of moving parts, but the action mainly surrounds a couple of ambivalent men, Ren and Luke, and a couple of determined women, Rey and General Leia, who are trying to save the galaxy. It’s good to see Carrie Fisher again, alive through the magic film. She looks a bit frail, a bit worn down, but then one of the running themes of “The Last Jedi” is the toll that endless conflict takes on the survivors, who live with the awful knowledge that victories are never final. Fisher is the soul of this series, and it’s hard to imagine who could ever take her place.
    http://www.sfchronicle.com/movies/article/Star-Wars-The-Last-Jedi-gets-a-tour-de-12423146.php

The cast is certainly game, from the veterans to additions like Laura Dern, but it’s very often Fisher’s show, and not merely for the sentimental baggage we can’t help bringing with us into the theater. Leia has rarely gotten this much to do in these movies, and here she’s not only capable of extraordinary feats (the Force is strong with this one) but she’s also as wry as we knew the actress to be off-camera.

The diminished and seemingly hopelessly outmatched Resistance is doing battle with the all-powerful and relentless First Order. (Carrie Fisher’s Gen. Leia Organa is still the leader of the Resistance, and your heart can’t help but skip a beat the first time the late Ms. Fisher appears onscreen. The performance she delivers, on its own, is subtle and wise and quietly powerful.)
    https://chicago.suntimes.com/entert...ast-jedi-stays-true-to-joys-of-the-franchise/

Following the destruction of the evil First Order’s Starkiller Base, and with Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker in self-imposed retirement in “the most unfindable place in the galaxy,” the Resistance is spearheaded by Princess Leia, played by the late Carrie Fisher, whose entire performance is overshadowed by the actress’s premature death (she should be a figure of empowering female leadership, not tragedy). Rest assured, there is a lot of Leia in “The Last Jedi.” In fact, in a franchise that has always been progressive about representation, the women basically run the show this time around,
    http://variety.com/2017/film/reviews/star-wars-the-last-jedi-review-rian-johnson-1202635597/

Isaac gets the Han Solo Memorial Award for wearing the flyboy-with-attitude role so well, the late Fisher shines as brightly as she did in the original films, and though Ridley and Hamill never quite click, she and Driver are fantastic together.

Honestly at this point, I'd almost think that Leia dying would be the most merciful end for her:

Her husband and brother are both dead, her son is the new leader of the space fascists, her legacy is in ruins, and she doesn't even have the "long-lost daughter or niece" thing to fall back on. What does she have left now?

Well. She seemed rather close to Poe ...
and when she got blown up on the bridge, I thought that was the end of her which was sad, but appropriate, though I did appreciate the virtual reunification of the Skywalker twins

There's more to tell in the next film and I don't know how they're going to explain her out of it.
