    Disclaimer: Borrowing with Love.

    Characters: L/M, Tionne.

    AN: Tionne passes a keepsake onto Luke discovered on a Jedi reconnaissance mission.
    AN#2: This is for the amazingly talented @Chyntuck who introduced the lovely japor ivory carving in "Necessity Beyond Sway, chapter 23.) [:D]

    ~~~~~!!
    Tionne breezed into Luke's office with her customary discretion but eagerness brimmed in her uniquely colored eyes and rippled in her melodic voice as she said: "Kyle and Kam found this during their recent trip through a recently unearthed part of the Oro Towers on Coruscant. They're renovating them to make a museum. They found this in the part of the wing that used to belong to the Emperor and his elite staff."
    Luke grimaced ruefully. Could it perhaps be something his father left behind by accident, or on purpose? What could it be, exactly?
    She handed him a smallish parcel wrapped in the softest cloths to protect it from scratches and damage. When he unfolded it, he discovered a delicate lovely carving made of japor wood. It was beautifully etched and the intricate detailing showed a dancer in fluid movement.
    "It's lovely." He said, radling it in his hands.
    ***
    The Force resonance was still strong but he couldn't tell why. It had indeed belonged to Vader but he hadn't exactly been known as an art efficianado.
    He spoke to Leia about it later that evening and found out an interesting bit of news.
    Leia had met their mother's relatives on Naboo soon after the Battle of Endor and had kept in touch ever since. Luke had gone to visit them as well, but hadn't kept in as close touch.
    "Pooja said that Anakin gave Padme a japor pendant." She told Luke.
    Luke felt a rush of realization. Someone had known of the clandestine secret connection between Anakin and Padme and had been tasked with making something meaningful emotionally to Vader. It meant a lot to Luke to have something his father had prized.
    He pondered -- he wanted Mara to have this gift, not as a reminder of anything to do with the Empire, of course, but on second thought, would it have those associations for her? That was the last thing he wanted. What he wanted to do was give her something to express how beautiful and elegant he thought she was, would always be.
    Not one to hesitate for too long, Luke decided to gift her with it.
    ***
    He told her of Tionne's visit and presented it to her with a twinge of last-second apprehension.
    But her pleased smile as she examined the exquisite workmanship eased his last doubts.
    "Luke, it's lovely." She found a silver chain and hung the snippet on it and let him clasp it about her neck. He admired it nestled between her breasts.
    Mara was not one for phru-phru jewelry. This was simple but distinctive, and something of personal relevance to them both.
    And when their daughter Ciera was born, he was certain that Mara would pass it along to her one day.
    Aww, how sweet of Luke to give his father's gift to his mother to Mara. It's almost his kalikori, in a way. :)
    I love seeing Tionne, if only briefly. this was sweet and it good to see Luke connecting with his mother in this indirect way. And, Mara thinking of giving it to Ciera (?) is sweet.
    Hehe. I know where that japor wood carving came from :D I love that you brought Tionne in this; of course she would be the one to sense its importance! And I love that you kept the mystery of Luke and Leia having a clue as to why it would be something Vader valued, but not knowing precisely where it came from.
    I found it adorable that Luke's way of keeping it in the family would be to give it to Mara, with the perspective of their daughter owning it in turn. Someday, somewhere, they'll meet someone who can tell them the carving's tale ;)
    Thanks so much for writing this [:D] @};-
    Thanks Poet & brodiew ... Tionne is a treat. And NobodyIX thanks so much and so lyrically put. =D= =D=
    Chyntuck thank you for the wonderful response & for Ayesha, the resilient and uniquely artistic ... [face_thinking] I like the touch of having a "keepsake" of personal relevance known only to those who hold it. :cool:
