It gets a neutral vote from me. It's definitely my least favorite of the six. For me, Jar-Jar and Jake drag it down.

I first saw it at 18 when it came out and--surprisingly--I didn't mind Jar Jar or Anakin or really anything about it. I was so jazzed to have more Star Wars and immersed in the new worlds and the story.

Looking at it now, certain things irk me, but I still enjoy it (don't mean to damn it with faint praise here). Obviously, Jar Jar is, was and always will be extremely annoying and chews up way too many scenes. The Gungan/Droid battle is a bit on the dull side (the droids army in general was a terrible idea for the PT). Jake Lloyd is a fairly awful little actor. The decision to include Tatooine as an integral setting seems lazy.

However, the general Star Wars weirdness is excellent--the Trade Federation aliens, particularly. Also, I think Darth Sidious was great. Ian seemed to give him a different, rougher accent that kind of disappeared and got more "transylvanian" in the subsequent prequels.

I like it though there are parts of the film that I don't like such as the Podrace going on too long(probably because I don't share Lucas's interest in racing.)

Probably the biggest cinematic disappointment of my life.

Pros
- The duel at the climax
- Ian McDiarmid, Ewan McGregor, Liam Neeson
- Awesome score
- We finally see Coruscant

Cons
- Jar Jar
- The rest of the Gungans
- The battle droids that looked and sounded like robotic cartoon ducks
- The pointless underwater giant fish sequence
- Cutesy casting for Anakin Skywalker
- The stupid ceremony for R2-D2 "This droid deserves our gratitude". What? Hes a robot, more or less just a part of the ship.
- Anakin made C-3PO
- The long, boring pod race scene that was like watching someone play a videogame
- Midichlorians
- Anakin flying a fighter and taking down a capital ship by accident.
- The horribly fake CGI looking battle between the Gungans and the Droids
- The phrases "Oops", "This is tense" & "Yippee".

This is pretty much on. This thread is a lot like "Did you like Rocky 5?"

The decision to include Tatooine as an integral setting seems lazy

what?!? - it's huge...hugely important to the entire saga. Tatooine is in every film except ESB - It has to be in the beginning.....this is where the story of Anakin/Vader began. and provides so much of the impetus for what follows in AotC and RotS.

but...........for me - TPM is simply and thoroughly the compass of Star Wars.

I felt the same way in 1999. However, ANH shows that Anakin's story was always linked to Tatooine.

Thats true. "Your uncle thought he should have stayed here and not gotten involved". We knew Anakin had origins at tatooine, it had to play a large part.

Could have been handled with a mention. Didn't NEED to see Tatooine. In conversation he could have told us that he had been born there, but was sold off or whatever. Another NEW and completely DIFFERENT planet would have been much cooler. Even in the video games Tatooine is used way too much. But hey... At least we didn't have to see the Ewoks again.

LOVED it. Just my opinion but didnt like the others nearly as much-Liam Neeson had awesome chemistry with the other actors. Hayden Christensen...not so much.
