RE: Should Darth Maul have died?

Greetings all I am new to this forum so I hope that my thoughts on Maul dying do not offend these are just my thoughts.
I loved Darth Maul. I thought his character was really cool not to mention that his martial arts style of movement brought a really cool feel to an evil character for the Star Wars films. Plus he was cool looking to boot. I would have liked to see interaction between an older Ani and Darth Maul. But alas he did not make it past Ep 1.

Thanks Rosa for the vote of confidence. I really love Starwars and it's good to find a cool place to talk about it.

I didn't feel like reading all 109 pages of this topic, so I hope no one has mentioned this before.;-)
I am not sure if this is accepted as canon or not, but in the Star Wars: Visionaries comic book, Darth Maul is portrayed as having survived Naboo. He then has worked, by himself, to chase down Obi for revenge. In the comic, a series of flashbacks portrays how Maul, sporting a set of prosthetic and menacing-looking legs, has nearly caught up with Obi multiple times, including Geonosis and Mustafar, always arriving just after Obi is gone. Eventually, he tracks him down to Tatooine, sometime after Obi has begun life as a hermit. In the climax of the story(which is actually quite short), the two battle, with Obi emerging as the victor and Maul dead, shot through the head by Owen Lars.
Again, I would not be surprised if this rather far-fetched story in a rather far-fetched publication is not considered canon, but still, it provides another possibility for Maul's death, in some ways far more satisfying than that portrayed in the movie.

I'm afraid, it's elseworlds aka non-cannon. Another pathetic example of Maul getting killed off in a most eye-rolling fashion, imho.

Even if it was canon, it still ends the same way...Darth Maul dead, only this time, does Kenobi kill him? Nope. Not only can he not avenge his "death" on Naboo, but he goes out in the worst way possible for a Sith Lord. Killed by a non-Force user with a gun. So, you can either accept that Maul was killed by a Jedi destined to become one of the greatest ever, or you can pretend he survived that battle, only to be punked out later by Owen Lars. Take your pick, but honestly, his death at Obi-Wan's hands is far more satisfying than how he went out in the Visionaries tale...A Sith Lord killed by a moisture farmer? PATHETIC.

What the hell is an Aluminium Falcon? Oh, I'm sorry, I thought my Dark Lord of the Sith could protect a thermal exhaust port thats only two meters wide! It wasn't even fully paid off yet!

Here, here! *thumps table* So do I
Even if he died in a bad way on Naboo, at least it was a 1000s times better then getting offed by some gruffy moisture farmer on Tattooine.
I know this is definately cannon and it is most likely only a clone of him, but I like the fight between the clone of Darth Maul and Vader. "Darth Maul" almost took out the Chosen One! Even though Vader still got him by a surprise attack, he still almost took him out. How cool is that?
*Plus I do know Vader already wore the suit. But he was 80% of Sidious and still quite strong, both physically and in the Force *

The Darth Maul clone vs. Vader fight is found in Dark Horse Comics collection "Star Wars Tales." Its title is called, "Resurrection." I think it might be in the first volume, but I'm not sure exactly. But I know it is not in any of the ones past volume 5.

Go ask the ladies at the Darth Maul Estrogen Brigade 2. They'd know for sure. I'm a member of the board...but that kind of info doesn't interest me... I'm not into numbers despite it being facts. Maul, I believe is in TPM a grand total of about 20 mins - with the last fight scene included.
