Obviously, Darth Vader the Suited has the whole "Frankentein's Monster" thing going on at the end of ROTS. And it can be debated, that Anakin Skywalker has been the afore mentioned "Monster" from before the very start of TPM, as it is *implied* that he was "perhaps" created by either Darth Plegueis, or Darth Sidious by certain "un...natural" means.
But there's more:
Some, very astute, but virulently ROTS-Bashing fan reviewer bemoaned the fact that Padme looked, in one of the scenes, (the Padme's appartment "balcony" scene, if my memory serves me correct) too much like "The Bride of Frankenstein." He seemed to think it was "cheesy", but I KNOW that was not a *coincidence*. Who else's Bride would she look like, after all?
I've also reard another, more ROTS-friendly fan reviewer mention his impression that General Grievous sounds like the Mad Dr. Pretorious, again from "The Bride of Frankenstein".
In ROTS, Palpatine ends up looking like Lon Chaney in "The Phantom of The Opera" (and Ian McDiarmid was very gleeful about this turn of events). Which makes me think that George Lucas did not chose the title "The *Phantom* Menace" lightly.
Has anyone else seen/heard any other 1930's and 1940's Monster Movie references while watching ROTS?

It's not good to bump your own threads (I don't care though)
but I noticed the Frankenstein walk of Vader.

The reason Vader walks like that is becuase he is first walking with prostetic legs.

Hey, that reminds me:
Are we really supposed to feel SORRY for the Frankenstein monster?!!
I mean, he throws that little girl into the pond, and rips the Burgermeister's arm off!!
I say he had the vengeance of the villagers with their torches and pitchforks, coming to him!

Other than the fact that anakin sort of resembles dracula with that cape and mad lust and hunger for power, anakin does look very much like a vampire..dark eyes, pale..or maybe a heroin addict.

It's not
30's
horror, but it is horror: Palpatine sounds like the demon in The Exorcist several times during Anakin's turn.
Specifically: "No, NO, NO, NOOOO! YOU WILL DIE!"

I know it didn't appeal to everyone, but I LOVED what Ian did with his voice!
I was mesmerized by it!
EDIT:
Notice that his voice changes BEFORE the force lightning comes into play. This leads me to believe that his distorted face and voice are not necessarily meant to be the result of lightning damage.

TPM is sort of an adventure, AOTC is a love/mystery story, and ROTS is a 1930's monster movie.

RE: ROTS: The 1930's Monster Movie of The Saga
I have a connection to a 1930's horror movie that fits more with Return of the Jedi, but I think it has some bearing here, too.
Has anyone ever seen the 1935 film The Raven starring Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff? I saw this film a few years ago and I noticed some parallels between it and the scene on the death star where Palpatine is electocuting Luke and Vader throws him into the reactor shaft. I'll try and explain it quickly here.
In The Raven, Lugosi plays Dr. Richard Vollin, a doctor who has become obsessed with a young woman named Jean Thatcher, whose life he has recently saved. Miss Thatcher, however, does not return his affections. So Vollin enlists the help of Bateman (Karloff), a criminal who is trying to turn over a new leaf and asks Vollin to reconstruct his face and make him appear to be a different person so he can leave his old life behind. Vollin, seeing an opportunity, instead disfigures Bateman and promises to restore his appearance if only he would do his bidding for awhile.
Vollin has Bateman tie up Ms. Thatcher's father and other friends and put them in some Edgar Allen Poesque torture devices (i.e., descending pendulum and such). When Ms. Thatcher refuses to give in to Vollin's desires, Vollin instructs Bateman to kill Thatcher's father and her fiancee but Bateman refuses and stops the torture device even as Vollin shoots him. Bateman then throws Vollin (who is cackling, kind of like Palpatine) into a collapsing room and both Vollin and Bateman die.
As soon as I saw this movie I drew a parallel between Vollin and Palpatine and another between Vader and Bateman.
I'm sure my synopsis was terrible but if anyone wants to see what I'm talking about, go rent the movie and tell me if I'm on the right track thinking that Lucas probably saw this movie and used it as inspiration for the whole Vader/Palpatine relationship.

I don't think argues against the fact of his artificial legs. BUT I think it could have been portrayed in a completely different way. Not in that Frankenstein way.
But that's just me. It doesn't seem to bother a lot of people.

RE: ROTS: The 1930's Monster Movie of The Saga
Sidious really was the mad scientist supreme. Think about it- he accomplishes everything every other mad scientist dreams of- all by himself:
1- screws with life to make new enhanced life form (unless you don't buy into Anakin being a Sith creation)
2- creates 'monster' Vader on table (he's alive! ALIVE!)
3- creates ultimate weapon of destruction
4- uses ultimate weapon of destruction
5- rules galaxy
6- corrupts the young
7- perfects diabolical laugh
What else could any mad scientist dream of?
