Well, there's also Count Dracula... er... I mean Dooku.

And Tion Medon looks like a reference to the original Nosferatu.

:::It's not good to bump your own threads (I don't care though)

I will do what I must, Agent Skywalker. wink

Oh, first of all, the thing that is supposed to make Padme resemble The Bride of Frankenstein is just the dress she is wearing, not that Padme has a conical do, with lightning-bolt streaks, like the Bride is known for, or anything so blatant.

I'm not sure, but Grievous' bodyguards seem to have as lot of excess fabric hanging from thier metal frames... perhaps an 'homage' to The Mummy? This one is "iffy", however... I haven't really looked very closely at the bodyguards.

Another one is when Palps is walking into the newly renamed Emperor Palpatine Surgical Reconstruction Center on Coruscant, to direct Vader's reconstruction, there's all kind of lightning going off in the sky above; an obvious "Frankenstein" reference.

I may have tapped the best 1930's Horror flick aspects of ROTS, but I don't know enough about the genre to know for sure (of coures, Im going to rent The Bride of Frankenstein", and the "The (old) Phantom of the Opera".

I'm think there may be more.

Still, all of this makes ROTS an homage to all manner of "Classic Horror" flicks, and definitely sears the whole idea that Plegueis, or Sidious created Anakin in some unhloy lab... I mean using the Midichlorians, into my mind.

Yeah, Tion Meddon, and the rest of his entourage on Utapau resemble a bunch of blood-sucking ghouls!

But, hey, they helped Obi-Wan, so I guess they're pretty nice after all...

When george anounced the name as "the phantom menace" Everyone well alot of people, went what? then when the sequel was called attack of the clones then those same people really rolled their eyes...........

But I knew that the concept was simple if Star wars was a large scale analog big scope 70`s Film then the new trilogy would have to Appear "Since story wise it happens before the ones we knew" that it had to appear that it was made in the late 30s/40s -50s with a nice ten 20 year "as long as it took to build the death star break.....

between the other films.

giving them all,a real pulp feel! to them to reflect the "virtual" time they would have been made.

look at the way the glossy film like look is to phantom and clones the ships, hell gladiator films were still popular back in those years hence the arena in clones I love it! it shows the genius of Lucas.

and i really like the fan made STAR WARS horror posters that Reflected the old horror posters of the past does anyone have a link to that cool one that awas posted on TFN with palps?

:::Hey, that reminds me:

:::Are we really supposed to feel SORRY for the Frankenstein monster?!!

I'm only doing this because someone (perhaps it was YOU) posted another thread, on who-know's-which board, that asked a similar question "Are we supposed to feel SORRY for him?" I'm assuming "him" was Anakin/Vader, but I could be wrong...

:::I mean, he throws that little girl into the pond

Anakin/Vader killed all of those younglings.:

::and rips the Burgermeister's arm off!!

Anakin cut Dooku's hands off.

:::I say he had the vengeance of the villagers with their torches and pitchforks, coming to him!

I guess it's a good thing for Anakin/Vader that he died on the Death Star II in ROTJ. lol

I was kidding because of the other thread, but just for the record, in the Frankenstein films...

...I always did feel sorry for the monster. sad

EDIT:

And just to correct myself, I believe I should have spelled it 'burgomeister'. blush

It's not 30's horror, but it is horror: Palpatine sounds like the demon in The Exorcist several times during Anakin's turn.

Actually, Palps resembles Pazuzu from the Exorcist after he kills Mace and Anakin pledges himself to him. It's the wheezing that he does that does.

Actually the "no, no, you will die" reminded me alot of Gollum. happy

I don't think argues against the fact of his artificial legs. BUT I think it could have been portrayed in a completely different way. Not in that Frankenstein way.

But that's just me. It doesn't seem to bother a lot of people.

It REALLY bothered me. And I stress the word "REALLY"... Maybe the most relevant and trascendental moment throughout the whole saga and Mr. Lucas decides making it look a "funny moment" giving homeage to Frankenstein??? I tell you, a couple of seconds more into such "parody" or "bad acting" and that scene alone would've ruined Episode III for me...

The good thing is, this thread kind of is helping me digest it a little more...

When Vader was clawing at the ground with his mechanical arm, all I could see was the end of the first Terminator. Aside from that and the obvious Frankenstein allusions, the film constantly refered back to the other 5 films.

:::Has anyone ever seen the 1935 film The Raven starring Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff?

No, but now that you brought it up, I will see it in the near future.

And yeah, I forgot to mention Count Dookula. I think George Lucas cast Christopher Lee in AOTC *just* so he could be in ROTS. Sure, a female Sith might have been cool and all, but it wouldn't have been the 'Dracula' reference so much needed later, in ROTS, to flesh out the 'Horror Flick' aspect of the film, now would it have?

And remember that Peter Cushing also continues the 'Horror' aspect of ROTS into ANH, so Tarkin just HAD to be in it.

well we do know that GL has used movies from early cinima. anyone ever seen Wings? It was the very first movie to win the Academy Award for best picture. some of the space battle sequences in Ep. IV are almost direct frame by frame copies of WWI bi-plane battle from that movie.

so it's certainly possible that G-dog was using old moster movies as insperation.

Goood! Let go of your embarassment about watching an homage old 1930's movie in the biggest movie of 2005, and your journey toward understanding ROTS will be complete!
