There are definitely people who hate the film. I know some of them personally, and in case anyone has forgotten, there was once an entire thread in this forum which was devoted to hating the PT films as a whole, and which was regularly visited by numerous hardcore detractors of both TPM and AOTC. They are almost all gone now, after the thread was shut down in order to foster a more communicative and respectful atmosphere. But those people remain in the world, whether they post here or not. I think they're in the minority of SW fans, but they're there and they're vocal and their voices lend weight to the majority of film critics, magazine reviewers and Academy members who excoriate the PT movies.

But there's a big difference between some people hating the film and "Why does AOTC seem to be so hated?"
Of course there will be people that hate the film. All films have people who hate it. I took the thread title as meaning "Why is AOTC less popular than the other 5 films"

Why not change the title to "Why did some people hate AOTC?"
I grow weary of the vocal minority making it out like most people hated the prequels.

I don't think it should be changed, as that is not the question that was asked.
You said that you don't think anyone hated the film. I know some people that hated it (true, most of them hate all the SW films).
But there does seem to be a large opinion amongst SW fans that AOTC is the least preferred, and that's what this thread is about. If you want to argue semantics between "hated" and "least preferred", then I think that's a separate argument.
Try thinking about it under the "least preferred" heading

It comes down to a semantic argument. Any usage of the passive voice is problematic, but in this case it's accurate, because AOTC is hated. The question does not specify by whom it's hated, or by what segment of the general population. It is left up to those reposnding to the question to clarify it and defend their own position, which might include that it's NOT hated.
EDIT: Passive, not passage. Weird slip of my innate spelling sense.

I'll just start a "Why is AOTC so loved?" thread and be done with it.

No you won't start a thread like that. We have plenty of them if you check the index. The thread title does not need to be edited. The original poster used the phrase "seem to be" not "is". If the title was "Why is AOTC so hated?" then I would understand. But the original poster was addressing the issue of a perception that AOTC is hated, not that it actually IS hated.

Am I allowed to contest that perception?

Sure that's what this thread is about. Discussing why AOTC does seem to be disliked, the least favorite among the fans, etc. That's also why I started the poll about liking AOTC. I wanted to break a perception that the fans on these forums didn't like AOTC... or TPM for that matter. That's why I started the TPM poll too. But refusing to believe that there are people who hate AOTC is not productive to this discussion...

Well the fact that I have not seen corroborating evidence is material to my point that even if there are people who hate it, it's not a lot of people.

When I saw AOTC opening night with my fellow friends and fans, I cheered at the end, glad to have seen what I perceived to be a vast improvement over TPM. I turned around, looking for corroboration from my closest friend in the group, who is notoriously hard to please but who cherishes the OT. He was like "I dunno, man, those love scenes were pretty painful...." Since that time, we've had many conversations about AOTC, and he has rewatched it many times trying to figure out what he hates so much about it -- as many as I have done, perhaps, looking for what I love. Ultimately none of my arguments defending the movie persuade him; I've decided he's a lost cause, and that he'll always hate it.
Others of my friends, who disliked the movie intensely on original release, found the edited IMAX version to be superior, and have since cooled in their harshest criticisms. Many others I've talked to in the sci-fi/film community take issue with the love scenes and Hayden's acting, but overall seem to think AOTC is better than TPM.
But by and large critics, magazine reviewers and members of the MPAA seem to outright detest the film. We should not discount their opinions in any investigation into "Why AOTC seems to be so hated".

Yeah the general public seems to think it's awful. I hear lots of "that middle one sucked" or "the one with the love story was terrible."

I don't trust the media to be "fair and balanced".
AOTC presented a story about a power mad politician who manipulated both sides of a conflict for his own personal gain.
Of course the main stream media "hated" it.
Gee who else got themselves emergency powers due to a BS conflict that was used to manipulate the average citizen into giving up their rights in the name of protection?

Go-Mer come on now... you know we leave politics out of these discussions. Leave it to the YJCC and the Senate.
