TPM. I think that one was almost perfect but all the trailers were great. What clinches it for me is the "Every Saga Has a Beginning" part.

ROTS trailer - using an unseen footage close-up of Sir Alec Guiness in Obi-Wan's hovel as he talks to Luke about times before the fall of the Republic, showing clips of apprentice Anakin on Tatooine racing to rescue Shmi from the Tuskens, 'Sith eyes Anakin,' clips of the Coruscant space battle, the Sidious/Yoda battle, Mace/Palpatine, Mustafar, the Anakin/Obi-Wan fight, the 'rise' of Vader . . . . WOW!

Well the TPM teaser was probably the most effective trailer of any movie in history...maybe it should have been left off this poll.

If by effective we're talking getting people hyped, there is no question in my mind that the TPM teaser was the most effective one. In fact I think in terms of causing hype, the only teaser trailer that comes close to being as effective is the Teaser Trailer for Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring.
After TPM most people had lowered their expectations and we were over the hype that Star Wars was back.

You know, I have to admit that I never even saw TPM teaser when it came out, nor TPM trailer. THe first time I saw it was on the dvd. (Yes, I thought that the prequels were going to suck THAT BADLY. Thank God I was proven totally wrong in May of 1999.) But, considering that it was the first SW film in 16 years, wouldnt ANY trailer/teaser have been that effective? That is why I voted for ROTS trailer. That trailer was better than most MOVIES. And I remember that it even got a lot of prequel bashers hyped up. To me that is a far more difficult task than what TPM teaser had.

It was down to 3 choices. The TPM Teaser, The Breathing Teaser, and the ROTS trailer.
I ended up choosing the ROTS trailer, but now I'm thinking I should have chosen one of the other two. While I was giddy at seeing the ROTS trailer, it was clear that it didn't have the same impact (in my neck of the woods) as the other two had. But I thought it was very well done.
I think the Breathing trailer was the most effective, now. The TPM teaser had everyone excited, but I think anything relating to star wars shown in that teaser would have gotten people excited. We were dying for new star wars footage after 15 years.
The breathing teaser had to overcome the failures of TPM (in the publics eye) and get people excited about the next film. Now granted AOTC didn't gross as much as the other movies and was defeated ultimately by spider-man overall in earnings that year, but this teaser probably still helped get people to come back and see a new episode. Well that's what I'll believe. It was just so ominous and it almost sent shivers down your spine. It was basically saying the tone of this film would not be as jolly and kid friendly as the last. Of course I was heavy into spoilers at that time and had built up this movie into being something it certainly turned out not to be. But just the feeling I had after seeing that Breathing trailer...
Plus I was quoted by E Online for my description of the trailer in the reaction thread.

I could see why TPM teaser would be great for people but I did not become a Star Wars fan until after I saw Episode I in the theater. When I saw the Breathing trailer in the theater, which of course I paid for the movie it was attached to just to see the trailer, I about flipped. Now, it is fun to relive moments like that.

I'd go with the ROTS Teaser. Just cause I remember us all being so hyped by the release of the final SW film, and just seeing like a 1 minute teaser set us off for weeks. Plus using the OT Ben lines added such depth to it.

Seeing as how it was the first one I saw I'm going with TPM Teaser. It was very different and I was not sure where they were going to go with the movie at the time. Also it got me really pumped for the movie.

It took willpower but I didn't watch the Phantom Menace teaser. Whenever I saw bits on TV I changed the channel and in theaters I went to the bathroom during it. After 16 years I wanted to go in as "cold" as possible. The Clones "breathing" teaser was FANTASTIC, and got me all hyped. The breathing, the drums, clone children and the lightsabers figthing in the dark conjured up a MUCH weirder, THX1138-ish movie for me.
