What a timely essay, as I've felt rather nostalgic as of late. I was saddened to see the end of the PT in 2005, but soon thereafter I found myself engulfed with other matters in life. I was thrilled to buy the DVD of ROTS upon its release. But, as noted, life went on, and other things took away my attention. With the movies being played on SPike this weekend, I, too, started to recall those days. I remember waiting in line on that gray New England day to see TPM, and the excitment of seeing AOTC soon after leaving for the Midwest. Though I felt old, having lived through both the OT and PT, it was sweet to watch my 1-year old daughter staring at the tv as she watched most of AOTC, before finally falling asleep two hours after her bedtime. Ah, memories...

I think the reason is we are getting to that 3 year plateau. After 3 years a new star wars would come out and if that were still true than one would be out May 20, 2008 or something like it.

I was 9 years old when TPM came out. I didn't even know if George Lucas was even involved or not. I was excitied, but scared at the same time. I remember seeing commericals for the STAP toys and I kept on asking if they were "Rebels or Imperials". I even thought that since it was going to be new, they were going to forget all of the traditions of the OT. I even thought that the opening crawl was going to be left out because it was too "old-fashioned".

Fortunatly, I saw TPM and loved it!

Very interesting to see this post. I have been feeling the same way lately. To be honest with you Star Wars sort of faded out of my life the past few years. I remember really missing out on a lot of the hype for ROTS.. I am not sure if it was because of a lack of a marketing push for the film, or if I was just preoccupied with a lot of things at the time, but it seemed like it snuck up fast and left just as quickly.

Nothing will match the excitement I felt starting in about '98-'02. Those four years or so were just so much fun. Very magical and I miss them tremendously. But like I said, things have been down hill since then. The real world kicked in. I have been training for the Marine Corps. I have been working non-stop. But the other day my girlfriend's son stumbled across TPM on television, but missed a good chunk of it. So I decided I would dig up my DVD for him. I popped it in the player for him and when it started rolling I didn't want to step away. Something just hit me again. It was amazing. I felt very nostalgic. I realized the film was so fun and innocent and not nearly as bad as I remember people saying. I just missed the whole hype. It's what made me come back to these boards today.

It's something that is hard to put in words but I think Prequel_Dreamer did a good job with it. It's a feeling, something that I miss, but something that I also had a brief encounter with the other day, something I had forgotten. And it was a good innocent feeling that I missed. I won't be there this summer when the Clone Wars hits the big screen, I will be down at Camp Pendleton getting PTed, but I wish all of you the best. It should be fun to see Star Wars on the big screen again! I am sad that I am missing out.

Actually we've all been "getting PTed" since 1999... tongue
