The Sith had been preparing for 1000 years to take control of the galaxy, and from Bane forwards they had put victory for the Sith over their own personal goals. Then along comes Sidious and just as Plagueis is preparing to unleash his power to create the ultimate Sith on the Jedi and replace Sidious, Sidious kills Plagueis, because he doesn't want to be replaced and puts himself before the goals of the Sith. And not only does he do this, but he doesn't even overpower his master in combat, but cowardly kills him in his sleep, which must mean that he didn't believe that he could take Plagueis in combat. Sidious destroyed 1000 years of work by the Sith for his own selfish wishes.

ummm....huh? Sidious fulfilled the Sith plan, not destroy it. He did take control of the galaxy. He did wipe out the Jedi. What part of the Sith plan didn't he accomplish? Even assuming Plagueis created Anakin, which, is purely conjecture, was it not Sidious that turned him into a Sith Lord? Assuming Plagueis was indeed his master, and that the story he tells Anakin was 100% true, that doesn't make Sidious a coward, it makes him smart and cunning. It makes him clever. Pragmatic, even.
There is no actual evidence that Darth Plagueis ever truly existed to begin with, or that he was indeed Sidious's master. For all we know, it could have been one big whopper of a lie being told to Anakin to further draw him in, to help seduce him to the dark side. We have no proof other than the words of the galaxy's biggest liar and manipulator, that Darth Plagueis even ever existed.
Sorry, but you are way off base. Darth Sidious was the completion of the Sith plan, not the ruin of it. What the Sith had been planning for 1,000 years, Sidious did. HE destroyed the Jedi. HE took over the galaxy. HE turned the Jedi's greatest warrior into their greatest enemy.

Vader was the worst thing to happen to the Sith. One thousand years of planning, hiding and patience, and Vader kills his master and then dies. End of Sith, forever.
Of course, they would have both died aboard the Death Star anyway, so even if Luke had become apprentice to Sidious, the Sith would have ended in ROTJ.

End of Bane's Sith, unless you follow Lucas' recent statements on the EU, or don't follow the EU.

Hoo boy. What did Lucas say now? I mean, those were the only sith at that time. Period. (i.e. Siddy and Vader) That is the cannon of the movies, which are undisputably cannon.

So the Sith waited 1000 years to rule the galaxy for 20?? Plagueis was more powerful and stronger in the force than Sidious and was planning to create the ultimate apprentice through his manipulation of the midi-chlorians. If Sidious hadn't messed all that up the Sith really could've ruled for a 1000 years...plus Sidious made the disasterous decision of entrusting the future of the Sith with Vader.

Where is it stated that Plagueis is stronger than Sidious? Just because he could allegedly "create life" doesn't make him stronger in the force than Palps, just more skilled in a branch of sith knowledge.

Well for a fact he has powers that as far as we know no other Sith had ever learned, and if we assume that Sidious killed him in his sleep because he didn't think that he could defeat him in combat, then yes, he was more powerful than Sidious, both in terms of Force knowledge and lightsabre combat.

I see where you are coming from, and i'm not doubting that Plagueis may be more powerful than Sidious, but i'm not going to assume that Sidious is weaker because he killed his master while he slept. Sidious was just smart enough to catch his master off guard and kill him without any effort on his part.

I agree with what Davi posted, Sidious carried out the legacy of the Sith to its fullest realization, in no way did he hinder it. Darth Vader or the redemption of Darth Vader was the worst thing to happen to the Sith as that event eventually caused their downfall.

The Sith are a contradiction just as much as the Jedi.
Bane was selfish and true to his nature in seeking power, yet he acted selflessly for the good of the order.
It is baffling.
Killing Plagueis in his sleep is perfectly in line with Sith teachings: Honor is a Fool's prize - Darth Revan.

What did Lucas say on the EU?
Luke is the worst thing to happen to the Sith. Without him trying to redeem his father the sith could've ruled happily ever after.

Palpatine's greatest strength was that of manipulation. He was thoughtful, deliberate and he was always two moves ahead of the Jedi. He used the fear of war to build his power in the Senate and manipulated the Jedi to become distracted with war while he solidified his hold on the Senate and the clone troops. There is a saying that if you ever want to hide something, you put it in plain view. The Jedi were so distracted by Palpatine's schemes that they didn't see it was he who was right in front of them because he had them looking elsewhere. Palpatine achieved the ultimate goal of the Sith: complete control of the Galaxy. So IMO, Palpatine was the ideal Sith lord, because he realized that the power of the word is often better than the power of the sword.
I also agree, but for Luke, the Sith could have ruled for a long time.

Anakin/Vader was the worst thing to happen to ALL Force users. Thats probably exactly what the Force wanted.
