at first it was hard, but now for all scenes, I can tell the difference...if you look and listen really really closely, you can see the difference...

Make no mistake about who was playing who... it was just an idea on the voice-over acting.

Here's a color-coded list:
*Queen meeting with TF via hologram monitor: Portman
*Queen meeting with Naboo advisors and Palpatine's hologram: Portman
*Queen bowing her head before window as TF marches down square: Portman
*Queen being escorted by TF down staircase: Knightley, w/ Portman as Padme
*Queen meeting with Jedi outside ship hangar: Knightley, w/ Portman as Padme
*Queen on ship, commending R2-D2: Knightley, w/ Portman as Padme
*Queen on landing platform at Coruscant: Knightley
*Queen in Palpatine's chambers ("no civility, only politics): Portman
*Queen in dressing chamber (Anakin's visit): Portman
*Queen in Senate chamber: Portman
*Queen in Palpatine's chambers ("I must return") and with Jar-Jar by window: Portman
*Queen on ship asking Jar Jar for help: Portman
*Queen before Boss Nass: Knightley, then revealed as Portman
*From then on: Decoy Queen in whiteface: Knightley / Real Queen in maroon outfit: Portman
*Queen at Peace Celebration: Portman
Thanks to all for the words of encouragement. Maybe together we can try and tackle the voice dubbing? I think zombie, Arawn_Fenn and others have more concrete ideas on that score than I do....

Until concrete proof emerges, the whole voice-dubbing thing is pure speculation.

^ ^ Yes, I agree: like Strilo and zombie have said, it would be mere guesswork. However, I'm convinced that Portman voices all her own lines; I know her voice extremely well and I can hear her particular cadences and dryness-of-throat even when she's doing the queenly accent with its British overtones, which mimics Knightley's. Thus it behooves us only to determine whether Knightley is voicing all of her own lines, or if Portman does in fact overdub some of Sabe's dialogue to further throw us off the track. Since Knightley only plays the decoy Queen is six scenes (which see the color-coded list, above), it shouldn't be too difficult to listen closely to her lines in these scenes, and determine whether Portman speaks some of them. Even if it is guesswork, it'll still be fun!

Couldn't you guys have made it easier and went by the outfits they wear?
Knightley wears the black outfit just after the TF successfully occupies Theed. All the scenes with that black gown with the peacock headress are her. She's also potraying the queen when they first land back on Naboo in the third act and then when they try and infiltrate the palace and she pops her head in the door and shoots a droid.
The rest are Portman.
Done.

Exactly. I myself remember being fooled by the whole thing (at first viewing) thinking that Padme was just a retainer. Then, when she reveals herself to be the Queen and not an escort, I was surprised to see that she was what I perceived her to be anyway. Good job, Lucas. However, after the second viewing I knew who was who mainly because I was looking for it. Who was the actor who doubles for her in the scene where she gets killed at the beginning of the AOTC?

Some of Anakin's dialogue in ROTS was actually dubbed by Ewan McGregor.

I don't think I've missed any; please point out if I have and I'll elucidate the actress in question.
Yeah those are all about right from what I remember. It's been some times sense I have seen the movie. But those are all right as far as I can tell.

Do you have any proof of that or are you just kidding around? I've seen video of Hayden doing his ADR work on the ROTS DVDs, so what's the point of having Ewan dub some of the lines.

I totally agree with the list Vortigern99 created
However, i've always wondered, since Portman plays the queen when she is going to her ship to head back to Naboo and the "I need your help" scene with Jar Jar in her ship, how did they explain Padme's absence? She wasnt there when they boarded the ship nor on the ship since Portman plays the queen yet she is with them for the Boss Nass scene. With Anakin's obsession with Padme and the fact she hung out with Guigon on Tatooine, you would think they would notice her absence.

Ah, good point, but being just one of the several retainers that escort her, it's possible she could have gone unnoticed. Then again, isn't Sabe supposed to look alot like her? This is probably how Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan first notice her double roles, too.

Well, the double is for protection against the outside world; the inner circle of Amidala's friends and advisors -- Panaka and all the handmaidens -- know the secret. Of course Q-G and Kenobi noticed; they exchanged knowing glances at the reveal on Naboo. As to Anakin, we can perhaps imagine that he was repeatedly told Padme was busy with official work whilst on the ship; and during boarding she might have simply blended in with the other handmaidens, for all Anakin knew. At all events during the return trip to Naboo, the two could have switched again, freeing Padme to speak with Anakin in off-screen scenes of such little importance they did not make it into the script.
