Why in ROTS did Sidious send the Separatist leaders to Mustafar? Was there something important about Mustafar, or was he foreseeing the future, where Vader would kill off all the leaders?

There was a separatist stronghold on the planet, which was why they were told to go there.

Apparently Grievous' original line was "I am sending you to the Mustafar system in the Outer Rim. It is a volcanic planet which generates a great deal of scanning interference. You will be safe there." The line was trimmed down for the film, so that explanation was missing.

Sidious basically had everything planned way in advance I'm sure he picked there because he knew they would die on that planet. I don't think it was an accident.

Hmm, Sids may have over thought himself on this. If he left the Separatists leaders on Utapau, then eventually he would have sent Vader there to kill them, meeting up with Kenobi anyway. On Utapau, at least Vader wouldnt have been burned up.

It's far off from Republic reach, holds no real colonies other than the miners and droids, and just looks cool on screen. It's where you'd imagine a bunch of evil guys to chill.

Plus, what do you mean did Sidious see Vader killing them there? He sent Vader there to kill them. If Anakin turned earlier, he would've been sent to Utapau to kill them there.

However, how he'd burn up, I'm not too sure.

He sent the Separatist leaders to Mustafar because of its "remoteness" and that a stronghold had been constructed there for that very purpose. Whether or not he had always intended to dispose of them there or not is unknown.

But how remote is Mustafar really? Is there a major hyperlane nearby?

All right, I made a wording mistake in my original question (it is confusing). What I meant to say was if Sidious, through the Force, forsaw Vader killing the leaders on Mustafar and nowhere else. I agree with the scanning interfernece bit, and I wonder if sending Vader to Utapau, if in fact Anakin did turn at that time, would have conflicted with the fighting on the planet.

I think it was just because it was remote and he was going to tell the Jedi council about Grievous on Utapau anyways... i believe he didnt want them killed till he was ready (i.e. had anakin turn to the darkside) so if they are hidden on a planet that few people care about, it's easier for him to have everything going as he planned and not have to use a plan b

The separatists were largely made up of big businesses, from what I understood of the movie. They would have a reason to be on a planet for purposes of mining...whatever inside a gigantic volcano, perhaps to both oversee some operations and hide out from the Jedi. It didn't matter where they were, as long as Palpatine knew where they were he could send his little Ani to go tie up the loose ends, and we know he knew where they were because he orchestrated everything according to his "design." You don't have to be prescient to know how dominoes are going to fall once you set them up.

Yes, but it only has 2 lanes, and there are a lot of speed traps.

Supposedly Mustafar was also easily defensible, probably with all the lava and whatnot. But of course it didn't matter since they just let Vader walk in and kill them all.

They knew Vader was coming, but they didn't expect that he was there to kill them all.

"He will TAKE CARE OF YOU" is kind of like the prophecy about the Chosen One; it was misread so that Vader will HELP YOU by the CIS leaders.

The CIS leaders didn't know that Anakin was Darth Vader, let alone anything about the prophecy. They simply trusted Sidious' word which led to their deaths.
