What if Anakin didn't kill Dooku?

Like always, if this has already been discussed lock and redirect.
I was watching ROTS last night and thought, what if Anakin hadn't given into his anger and killed Dooku? He'd be taken prisoner to the Jedi Council and the Senate, but do you think he would actually go?
Just because his hands are gone doesn't mean he still can't use the darkside against Anakin- which in the end would get him killed. Do you think Palpy would be so Po'd he'd take out Dooku himself during the whole 'daring escape' from the invisible hand?
How would the JC treat him when he got back?

Well, Palpatine had said to kill him, meaning that Dooku would have turned on Palpy right after being captured. Then, there would be a vote of no-confidence for the Chancellor, and maybe he would be removed because he was the Sith Lord. I don't know how it would have played out, but this would be a best-case scenario.

I don't think Sidious would have let Dooku make it off of the Invisible Hand if he were a prisoner. If the Council got the truth out of him, that would be the end of Sidious. If anything, Sidious would have taken out Dooku, Anakin and Kenobi and covered it up. He was able to run the CIS without Dooku, but it could have made for an awkward moment if Chancellor Palpatine, in custody of Grievous, Gunray and company, had to explain who he was, and why he had orchestrated a war.

Well the plan was that he would live and that Palpy would take over at that point. But Dooku was supposed to have won. Now if he lost and Anakin hadn't killed him, well then I think Sidious would have seen to it that Dooku suffered a bit of an accident in route.

The plan that Dooku was aware of (obviously different from Palpatine's true intentions) involved giving himself up as a prisoner to the Republic and spending the rest of the war secluded in a holding cell on Coruscant. As for Palpatine, I think that if Anakin had failed to kill Dooku, he would have arranged for an accident to befall the Count.

If Anakin hadn't killed Dooku, then Palpatine would get pissed off and start attacking Anakin with Force Lightning, muttering all sorts of stuff like "Oh, you could've had all the power associated with the dark side if only you had been my apprentice....but NO...."
Then of course Dooku gets up, is somewhat remorseful for what he's done, and at the last moment he decides to pick up Palpatine with what remains of his arms and toss him down the Invisible Hand's elevator shaft. Anakin gets up, is sorta confused....then picks up Obi-Wan and Dooku and drags them both to a shuttle and flies away....and they live happily ever after!

If Anakin didn't kill Dooku, then Anakin and Obi-Wan would be dead, plain and simple. This was Palpatine's test for Anakin to see if he was a true Sith. If he couldn't beat Dooku, he wasn't worthy of being considered Palpatine's successor and would have become expendable.

Anakin was too great a prize for Palpatine to simply throw away. If he was not ready to embrace the dark side on the Invisible Hand, Palpatine would have let him simmer for a few years before he tried to turn Anakin again.

Palpatine might have gave Anakin a couple of more years, but I had the impression that the Invisible Hand was the all or nothing test. I don't think Palpatine went through all the trouble of attacking Coruscant and faking his kidnapping just to have to do it all again in a few years when Anakin was ready.

But if Palpataine even tried to kill Anakin and Obi Wan, he'd be done for. I'm going to agree and say that he'd give it more time, get Anakin stronger and just keep pulling the strings to get him po'd at the right times.
He spent way too long feeding Anakin mindless compliments and learning his weak points. In the end, he would turn Anakin or die trying.

How would Palpatine be done for if he tried to kill Anakin and Obi-Wan? Obi-Wan was already incapacitated and if Anakin had lost to Dooku he wouldn't be in a position to do anything.
