Yes.. the condensed Art book! How could I forget??

I remember selling my film strip on Ebay for around $7. I should have kept it!

Anyone remember when the soundtrack was leaked online? I was up all night listening to that, especially duel of the fates and the ending credits.

Ah, yes. The soundtrack is a nice memory. I was spoiled by the tracklisting, but oh my how there is none as brilliant as John Williams.

Here's an article I published this week, celebrating the stylistic aspects of the Star Wars prequels:

Loved the article.

Harp on the other flaws all you want, but the visual storytelling in the prequel trilogy is matched by few other films.

When a corrupt government controls all media, critics tend to ignore anything that might tip the people off to their impending tyranny.

Did people not like the prequels in China and North Korea either? wink

That was a great piece. I'll be keeping an eye on your blog in future for sure. happy

About the music of TPM, I personally never liked the soundtrack that much. Yes Duel of the Fates was great, but otherwise I thought it was a pretty banal soundtrack, really.

Great article! applause

The soundtrack, I bought it on tape and wore it out before the end of the summer of 99. I had to re-buy on CD. GREAT, great soundtrack! I LOVE IT! I still listen to it constantly. grin

It was an awesome experience and a great film that's gotten better with age and while watched in accordance with the entire saga.

At first there was the awe of it first hitting the screen, then of course the critics. But I would not change a thing about it as it was supposed to be a story of innocence in a lighter time.

Lucas set the stage, captured our imagination and humanized Darth Vader aka Anakin as a boy. He has my applause time and time again.

It has more of an "OT feel" ( which IMO diminishes as the PT goes on ). It's similar to ANH in some ways, ROTJ in others.

Looking back , it was such a bold and risky film.
At the time of the film's release, I was shocked at how the film was labeled as George's "Hollywood sell out " film.

It was anything but...

I feel the same way. Hollywood in the 1990s would have gone for something along the lines of "Independence Day."

I TOTALLY agree!

The Phantom Menace is a bold and beautiful film. I'm VERY glad Lucas has the balls to follow his own heart, and imagination, and didn't give in to what some of the fans thought it should be. If so, the PT would have been nothing more than a rehash of the OT, and not the underrated brilliant films they are. applause

I get all warm and fuzzy here now... hugs

I think it's a very good point how TPM is more "OT-like" than the other prequel films. But at the same time, it's radically different in its central conflict. It's good to look back on TPM ten years on, having initially loved it, then become unsure as the criticism set in (did I intend to love it, no matter what it was?), and then realizing that I do love the film. I think I just didn't have the level of expectations that some people did, so I wasn't let down. I was just genuinely curious about what a new Star Wars would be like, after all those years.

And thanks for positive comments about my article! It hasn't gone down that well on other forums. It's been called stuff like "over-analyzing" (which, in my opinion, people only say about analysis they disagree with anyway...), and the more straight forward "hard blowcrap"... Which I don't even know what means, but it sounds really fun! tongue

So, thanks for the kind words, people!
