Gary_Buchenara posted:You could describe it that way. But even so, the ability to control emotion and harness and channel what one has at one's disposal is a determinant of true power, so either way, his opinion of himself was over-inflated. I cite his first confrontation with Dooku and his demise at Kenobi's hands as examples. Also, I don't think you can really say Anakin took out Mace, unless you're talking in the Robert Ford sense! Mace was kind of tied up at the time.
Gary_Buchenara posted:I agree with you that Anakin had potential power / raw power or whatever else you choose to call it by the bucketful. No argument there. But to me, overall power has to be about effectiveness as well as potential and if you can't control your raw energy / potential or whetever, then you're not going to be effective and therefore you're not really all that powerful in practical terms.
DarthBoba posted:It might be worth noting just how fast Anakin gets powerful-just over a decade and people were already ranking him as potentially the most powerful ever. In the EU, Luke took a really long time to start doing really awe-inspiring things with the Force-he was well into his thirties before he started doing stuff that just made you go "wait. What did he just do?"
DVCPRO-HDeditor posted:This is one of the things that bothers me most about the Prequels. In Episode I, Obi-Wan jumps over Darth Maul - who is standing inches from the ledge - catches the lightsaber, turns and cuts him in half. All that Maul had to do was hold his 'saber out in front of himself, and Obi-Wan would have been bisected by his own maneuver. There is no reason why a well-trained, highly skilled Sith warrior would have such incredibly crappy reflexes as to not be able to take down an unarmed Jedi jumping over him like that. I believe Ray Park's assessment of Maul's death as "disgusting" fits most aptly.
