a very quick question - do you feel the prequel story would have been any better served being structured to fit four films/four episodes rather than three? or was three just right? it seems for the sake of numerical equality lucas wanted the films to be done in trilogies (he decided that when he named ANH episode 4). in structuring the prequels though, beginning with anakin aged 9 and undiscovered (a choice i agree with) it seems that with the amount of things requiring presentation, three films may not have been enough. for me, if the resolution story in the OT was told in three films, three films for a normality-disruption arc may have been rushed in comparison. i personally got the feeling perhaps certain aspects of episode 3's story required extending - perhaps too rushed in the final product. maybe anakin's teaching or more of the clone wars could have been shown in a four-film structure. would that have been beneficial? i'd be curious to see this discussed. i think the prequels work as well as they can do under the circumstances. i just get the feeling its an 8-9 hour story condensed into just over 6.

I think three is enough to tell the intended MAIN story...basically Anakin's story, you could say. I think it does that well. Anything else, like Anakin's Jedi adolescence, and the clone wars and whatnot, would kinda be considered extra to me-things that could be left out and would still be ok...I guess I feel that ROTS kinda came into it at an odd point though-Anakin was already a Knight, and there were things that happened DURING the Clone wars that may have been pivotal...but I don't think it would warrant a whole nother episode...What I would've preferred was that the 6 episodes were longer-like 3 hours, similar to Lord of the Rings. I feel just an extra half an hour or so could've done it. Actually, I'm a fan of flashbacks. I think the epicness of the Saga would lend itself to that effectively-that could've been quite nice, IMO.

The Clone Wars movie/TV show is kinda an unofficial fourth movie, because it fits in the timeline, but is not live-action.

That horrid cartoon? No thanks.

The CG show is pretty close in spirit to the first fifteen or so minutes of ROTS, which is basically a lighthearted adventure movie until Anakin murders Dooku.

Three movies were more than enough to tell the story. The saga is perfect how it is now.

I wasn't really talking about the "movie" that was released, more certain parts of the series...there were several episodes where I thought to myself, "oh, this would've been interesting to see live action..."

Nope, far from it. I think the PT would've definitely benifited from a fourth film. There are way too many things that we never got to see on film and too many things were left unexplained or unresolved. We shouldn't have to rely on the EU to fill in the blanks for us.

As much as i love the prequels, each for different reasons, they are far from perfect.

Especially after reading Luceno's prequel novel, I feel the PT would have greatly benefited from a film that focused on a period of time in the midst of the Clone Wars. Maybe if AOTC was re-visioned slightly and put in place of TPM, the second film could have revolved around the fallout from the end of AOTC (perhaps starting with an assassination attempt by the CIS, instead of having that plot in AOTC). I think the broad story of the PT can be told in three films, however the current films would need to be re-worked slightly to allow for that.

Exactly! It would've been great to have a movie that took place in the midst of the Clone Wars. I would have much rather see the Clone Wars play out in a live action prequel movie instead of having to watch the cartoon series.

I think it's OK to have some things unexplained.

I think 3 films would've been enough. For me, starting the story with Anakin older would've allowed this to happen. Episode 1 would've led into the Clone Wars, Ep 2 during the Clone Wars and 3 just as ROTS is now.

I can't violate any collaboration waivers or disclosure agreements, but I can offer this...

Do you think that it's possible that a cartoon like STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS could be a
springboard for several new film projects based on new characters introduced in the cartoon
series; that the cartoon is a method of determining general audience/fan receptivity to the
ideas, situations and personalities presented there, rather than a haphazard platform for
marketing a modest product line of toys and games?

If you agree with that, then look for future films. If not, then Mr. Lucas is a Chairman
perfectly willing to allow his multi-billion dollar franchise stagnate. Take your pick.
