Well, if that ends up being the case, I want to see how they get over the "it's impossible to travel between universes now" thing in order to have Rose and co back. As much as I love Rose, I think bringing her back defeats the finality of "I'm using the power of a supanova just to say goodbye." (Truth betold, I'm just bitter and annoyed at Rose fan-boys/girls )
Ah yes, the ever present Davros rumours... We'll see.
As long as The Doctor doesn't turn into Captain Planet though, I think we'll be fine.
No wait, I've got it! The Doctor was taking a leaf out of Hugh Bliss's book with the use of the Master's giant hypnosis ray!

Sounds to me like the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 5 Finale rumours from back in the day where every past popular character and their dog from the main show and the spin-off was going to turn up to fight in the big final battle.
So naturally I'm dubious.
Bringing back Davros as the Season Villain makes sense, and there are plenty of ways to do it well, and probably just as many to do it badly. My only hope is that whoever they get to play Davros plays it subtle; I've gotten fond of the quiet, introspective but still thoroughly evil Davros, and it'd make a good contrast to the Emperor of the Daleks seen at the end of the Ninth Doctor's run.
I was kinda hoping the over-arching season plot would be the Doctor being caught in the middle of a hugely escalating Sontaran-Rutan War in the wake of the Last Great Time War. Yeah, like that'd happen...
As long as there's an episode titled "The Wrath of Caan", I'll be happy.
Be seeing you,

I like your finale idea, Magnus. That's a conflict we always heard about but never got to see, which always disappointed me intensely.
But yeah, this idea is rather overblown, and I'm dubious, but at the same time, it does feel like the kind of thing Davies would do, know what I mean? He overdoes it sometimes, and I could definitely imagine him excitedly penning this.
As for Davros, have you listened to the Big Finish audio drama "Terror Firma," Magnus? Not only did they get the original Davros actor back for it, but the portrayal of the character is fantastic, and I really hope they keep that trend going. Frankly, given how they've handled the Daleks thus far, with the lonely lost soldier in Dalek, the insane emperor's god complex in Parting of the Ways, and the tensions between the radical Sek and the conservative remainder of the cult of Skaro in Evolution, I'm not too worried about a lack of nuance in Davros if and when he appears (because let's be honest: it's only a matter of time. If it's not this season, it'll only be a few more at the most).
Frankly, though, if I had to pick between Sontarans and Davros, I'd pick the spud-heads any day of the week. Davros is interesting when done well, and the new series has been very keen on putting 'human' faces on the Daleks to up the drama and emotion, but we shouldn't go back to the old days where the ugly dude in the wheelchair was trotted out for each and every Dalek episode, because he became really boring and generic. See Remembrance, as Magnus said. When Davros is just the Emperor Dalek in all but name, there's no point to him as a character (again, see Terror Firma. Will be interesting to try and reconcile that with continuity if Davros shows up post Time War).

Well, they've released the DVD cover of Destiny of the Daleks - I think the region 2 release is out 26th November? Gnn, I can't wait - I need to take screenshots...

Ditto.
Davison looks great, all things considered. Obviously older, but if we could forgive Pertwee for aging so visibly in The Five Doctors, we can do the same for him. Plus we know from all the audio dramas he's starred in that he still nails the character, so this is going to be fabulous to see.

I don't think I can properly express the glee in seeing Peter Davison back in his Doctor costume
I'm actually rather giddy.

Ain't that the truth. I'm so excited that I've been in a relatively good mood all day despite it being Monday and having, quite frankly, a depressing amount of work to do. My only regret is there is no one in the office to share the glee with.

That's what the boards are for, specifically this thread. Once HappyBob gets off his rear end and joins in, I should think there'll be more than enough glee to go around.

Yay, more glee!
And sorry to burst your bubble, but:
1) Tom Baker has made it abundantly clear over the years that he has no desire to ever be involved with Doctor Who again.
2) Have you seen Tom Baker lately? Peter Davison has aged well. Tom... Not so much.

He is a little on the round side of things these days, yes... As is Colin Baker.
I say get Sarah Sutton back - she's still cute as a button if I recall correctly .
Anywho, back to being gleeful - am I the only one who's switched their desktop wallpaper around today? Minimising all windows has become positively distracting.

I was only on my rear end because I was, rather topically, spending all day watching Jekyll by Steven Moffat. (I won't say if it's any good. To any of us, the words "by Steven Moffat" say far more than any enthusiastic capital letters could.)
So! Davison! I'd also like to contribute to the glee bank. Suddenly all is right with the world and this uni workload really isn't that bad. (And with the aforementioned "by Steven Moffat" tagline in the mix, we have a very rare luxury: we know it's going to be good.)
With one more fan dream (soon to be) fulfilled, we can focus all our wishful thinking energies on McGann making an appearance.

Glad you got to watch Jekyll HB. It is sterling television. However I was disappointed with the end, but we can discuss that another time, or perhaps in a more approrpriate thread?
In that vein, speculation over Moffat taking over the reins is still being bandied about. Furthermore, there are rumours that Jason Nesbitt might be David Tennant's eventual replacement. Pure rumour at this point, but given that Eccleston and Tennant both appeared in productions by Davies before they got Doctor Who, there is precedent for it. However I don't see Tennant going anywhere anytime soon. Unless they really surprise us and Tennant regenerates at the end of the third special in 2009.
Yes, with Davison appearing in new Doctor Who, getting an Eighth Doctor story at some point seems less unlikely. I still reckon the time to do that is 2009 in the "Gap Year", but we'll see what happens.
Sure, this appearance is only for a six-minute scene, but I'm confident of awesomeness and there are so many directions this could go in.
To tide me over for the month, I picked up a couple of Fifth Doctor stories on DVD, The Visitation and Resurrection of the Daleks. That last was probably a tactical error; with the Davros Box Set coming, I was only two stories short. Now I'll only be one. Still, the extras may be worth a double dip; we'll see.
I should really lose this stupid grin I've had all day, but it's just not going anywhere
