I shouldn't read news articles before my first coffee of the day, I thought it was more a crackdown on illegal/immoral content rather than the legal stuff. That makes things much more interesting.

We all know why the Government is doing this; it makes them look proactive on this issue to the people who cry out, "Won't somebody think of the children?. Since we've got a Government that's already fairly proactive despite the fact we're still in the honeymoon period, you have to wonder, why bother? Was this an election policy? Cos I don't remember hearing about it.

My views on censorship are similar to Loz's, so I won't repeat them here.

Will they implement highspeed broadband around the country before they implement this plan?

And yes Loz, you were using "sensorship"; I think that has something to do with Federation starships not picking up broadcasts of Klingon Boxing or somesuch tongue

Be seeing you,

Magnus Darcrider

Hey, I have an excuse, I deal with sensors all the time...

Back on topic. My reading of it is that it is a "crack-down-on-whatever-we-feel-like" filter. The talking point at the moment though is plain, boring (albiet occassionally weird) porn. Not bomb making, or drug recipies, or even kiddie porn.

It might be a Krynoid, Magnus, don't forget that possibility. The more rats it eats, the bigger it grows, and then, well...

I have too much power: Immigration Minister

Government with a social conscience? Have I woken up in another reality similiar to but different to my own again??

Still waiting for the Honeymoon Period to be over with this Government and Kevin Rudd to proclaim himself our Dark Lord & Master, but stuff like this tells me it's a long way off.

Goldfish short term memory - debunked!

...although I can see it staying in urban legend. One news story does not reach everyone...nor change the written word.

The Regent Cinema: Will it or won't it be saved?

News story.

There's a proposal in the council atm for the Regent, Wintergarden and Hilton (on Elizabeth St behind it) to be knocked down for a new building. The lower level entry/foyer only would be kept. The candybar foyer won't.

I hope they save it. I'd be very disappointed if we were to lose such a great building.
