Having spent so long in retail, I believe Myer's choice in bringing out larger kids' sizes is for one reason: profit. It cannot be a lack of of corporate duty of care that they would do that. It's finding a new market and being the first/best to profit from it. (Unless they put chocolate in that department,) It's not likely their intent to encourage kids to become fatter...they do have fashion (a) line(s) for the thin thing that's been there for a long time. I'm not defending them, I am just saying where I see their approach.
It's why cars now have larger/more adjustable seats.

All for cars with more adjustable seats; my Hot Physio berates me every time I go on a long drive as the seats in my car have zero lumbar support and I usually end up worse off by the end.
Interesting discussion, and one I'm glad to hear. Not enough people worry about this and the implications. I can't really contribute, but I will reinforce what Kahlan said as it was the only part of the conversation that alarmed me; Loz, I'd be worried if you lost that much weight (and I doubt Kahlan and I would be alone there), so please don't.
Be seeing you,

Ok... When I was doing sport 6 days a week I was 70-75kg. Most of that was probably muscle. When I stopped and went to live in Spain, where all I did was walk walk walk, study, and drink I shed all that muscle and was a nice 60-65kg. My body existed at that weight quite happily. Somehow, between May and September I managed to put on 10kg. I've simply managed to put it on in places that are that aren't so noticeable, and because I have a tendency to prefer my clothes be larger rather than tighter, I still fit them. So when I say I could stand to loose 10-15kg, I really can. Wouldn't want to loose much more than that though as that would push the healthy weight range for my height.

Women's clothes aren't actually built for most women either as they fail to encompass the idea that some women have curves, broad shoulders and would rather their undies didn't show when they bent over.
As for Myer, I'd agree with the reasons that you came up with Goobas to why they came out with this clothing range now (especially having worked for Myer) but I don't think it makes it evil, or selfish just savvy. The article (and comments) you can find here it's from News.com which doesn't exactly make it well written (I love sensationalism).

You know what...made me double take?
Today I was near an elderly couple in the electronics section of a deparment store. They were discussing (amongst themselves) the pros, cons and tech associated with DVD recorders and recorders with hard drives. Talking about how many Gig's of this or that, or hours a blank DVD can record...
They were easily in their 70s.
Good on 'em.

YKW made me go ..HUH?
On the enquiries phones on Friday at work and I hear the person next to me laugh and say what sounded like..
"Gene Kelly is is working with Reindeers". I swear.
Turns out it was exactly what she said but it was another Kelly and the animal reference was a nickname of someone else.
Still, the images it produced in my head lightened the rest of my day!

Had a dream about the end of the world last night. Was quite strange and didn't give any info to how or what but alluded to many things but i did hear the day tuesday, which was the next day in the dream, and it was the day of the U.S ellection.
Kinda left me felling strange all day...and crazy at even writing this down.
oh, and i think the ellection is the tuesday november 4

It's a common experience that happens to us all at some point, bonding us as a species: the horrible realisation that you might have seen Richard E Grant perform without knowing it.
I asked around (my extended family is full of experts on that production, as they've been keenly following my cousin's role in the ensemble cast). Turns out REG only just started as Professor Higgins when the show returned to Sydney last month.
It's a shame he didn't join just a little bit earlier, but you can both rest easy knowing you didn't miss an opportunity right under your noses: it was one state and one month removed from any of the aforementioned nostrils.

Well that's a relief. Would have to kick myself a bit more if I actually had missed him in Brisbane.

YKW?
It never occurred to me when I was nary but knee-high that the Baron in popular movie, "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" was constantly trying to murder the Baroness in relatively violent ways.
