I'm going to have to agree with Sauron_18.

All novels, comic books, etc. are approved by Lucas.

I recall Lucas saying tht EU is a reimagining and not something he personally takes into consideration.

But hey, now aint the time! x

just because the word legend is used, doesnt mean it happened hundreds of years ago.

Michael Jordan is a legend and he's only been retired for 7 years

EU and Films are Canon, together they make star Wars, individually they are not.

Darth Plagueis was the master of Darth Sidious, they did not live more than 100 years before ROTS, they follow the trend that has been followed for 1000 years.

correct me if i'm wrong, but darth bane reformed the sith into twos (no more, no less). this happened quite some time ago. so isn't plagueis just the result of the sith tradition being passed down in secret without the jedi's knowledge. so theoretically plagueis was a little older than palpatine, he found him, trained him, and was killed by him.

and yes palpatine definitely did it, in his sleep, that's so palpatine it's not even funny.

not to go off on a tangent but i also look to sith name given to the individual: it gives some dramatic irony. if you invest any stock in this, the name darth plagueis implies a role as a disease: the one who perpetuated the secret sith legacy.

my impression is that the sith layed low for quite some time passing knowledge on in secret until this dude, palpatine, comes along and sees an opportunity and a route for the sith agenda. it takes stealth to defeat an entire jedi council and republic, it can't be done with two sith masters in force.

The Films are the GFFA that Lucas wants us to consider "real" (Though both are ficional)

“There are two worlds here,” explained Lucas. “There’s my world, which is the movies, and there’s this other world that has been created, which I say is the parallel universe – the licensing world of the books, games and comic books. They don’t intrude on my world, which is a select period of time, [but] they do intrude in between the movies. I don’t get too involved in the parallel universe.”

Cinescape interview, 2002

Correct me if im wrong.
but wasn't Palpy born on Naboo? As far as i can remember one of the films displays that.
But if your true and he is going mouldy like yoda, then he must be switching identities.
for all we know he might of been born on Korriban...

Sidious was born with the name Palpatine, in Naboo, some 82 years before the battle of yavin

That's not a fact.

Ian's comments about "his own character" (when he was talking about the info that George gave him on the emperor) says that Palpatine was somewhere around 120 or 130 years old (during ROTJ) and seeing that Sidious didnt seem to be "injured" during his Mace duel, and the face was more of a revelation than an injury I'm going to stick by the theory that he's unnaturally old.

And by the way, where are you people getting this "he was born on Naboo" stuff from?? confused

It's never implied in any of the films, and even if it was, after all the stuff that he's pulled off do you really think it would be that hard for him to fake some documents?? raised_brow

But I think that if Sidious IS Darth Plagueis' apprentice then it's a strong possibility that he's very old.

Either that or Lucas has just disregarded the EU (once again) and the story of Darth Bane and put this character (Plagueis) into the mix and wants everyone to believe that Plagueis just "laid low" for a millenia under the jedi's radar, and then found Palpatine.

Well like I said before, in order for the jedi to even know of the "legend of Plagueis" that would mean Plagueis was around "at least" a millenia before TPM.

Ki-Adi: "the sith have been extinct for a millenia"

So yes, in this case IT DOES mean that it happened hundreds of years ago.

It's not canon but the only thing i've found was in the vis. dict. where it says that any documentation about his past had mysteriously disappeared

The Jedi say that the Sith were extinct for a millenium...true. But while saying this...remember that Sideous as right under their noses and they couldn't see it, until he revealed himself to Anakin. So before Maul introduced himself...the Jedi didn't really know for sure...and apparently were wrong. The Sith seemed to be extinct...but were just in hiding.

Yes but what I'm saying is that if the jedi know about Plagueis then he would have had to have been around before they thought the sith were extinct.

Perhaps since there is always only 2 Sith at a time, (master and apprentice) maybe they kept passing it on until it reached Palpatine.

Or Plagueis did have the power and saved Palpatine until the Palp. killed him.
