“One of the problems of Sith is that they are always quick to anger. This scene with her it was very important that we set it up to the point where he chokes her as he does with one of the generals in ANH. But at the same time he doesn’t kill her and he just causes her to faint but you get to see that flash of anger which he now doesn’t have much control over” - GL

Apparently they decided to add lots of ash to the Mustafar environment as a tribute to the band, Ash, who are big Star Wars fans and performed at the TPM wrap party.

GL talks about the duel choreography etc.

Yoda vs. Sidious:

Partly like Yoda from AOTC.

Lots of close ups. The like old film with lots of fighting.

Battle of the wizards.

Pod sequence give it different feel.

Fast sword fighting.

Tears apart democracy - place of government - symbolism for fall of democracy.



Obi/Anakin:

The scene on the table was originally shot with Kenobi holding both swords.

When they finished one part of the duel the crew broke out in applause.

GL - Ian is so good in this (duel with Yoda). So evil and creepy.

The part where Anakin climbs up the bank and is set on fire is an image GL had before ANH.

They had to have a shot in pick ups of Kenobi picking up Anakins saber because they forgot about it before!

How could they forget that!

“Obi Wan thinks that he’s killed him but he hasn’t” - GL

“I wanted the flames to last before Obi Wan left and then they died off” - GL

People say the same lines often. For humour, irony etc. Here Anakin asks if Padme is alright and she asks if Anakin is alright. - GL

“This is a scene where originally the Emperor was pretty dark. But I had to brighten him up so he’s like ‘Death’. He’s a white figure, white faced figure. Rather than a more realistic version which was very very dark and like he would normally look under the circumstances. But I wanted him to have the kinda spooky uh death figure look about him” - GL
