Are you trying to tell us something, battlewars? 
Over here in Austria, ROTS performed badly in theaters. I know a lot of people who planned to see it and then missed out. Even I only had the chance to see it two times (went to see TPM and AOTC five times each).
So yes, it was top for a week (could have been two) and then quickly disappeared from the list.
HOWEVER, it did remarkable selling and renting DVDs. It's this years biggest DVD seller, from what information I've gathered and a week ago it jumped back to place #6 in sales after having been out of the ranking for a week or two.
Pretty cool. I actually believe the DVD sales are much higher than the theater ticket sales have beeen in ROTS's Austrian run.
I don't know any sold units numbers, though. Anyway, great to see people can't get enough of those ROTS DVDs.

dvd sales are remarkable for this film because alot of fans that saw it in theaters then you have the other ones who did not see it because they hate going to the cinemas and dealing with crowds of annoying people.

How does a DVD get worn out? I would think the player is worn out more. There is nothing touching a DVD like a VHS cassette does. Maybe the DVD has a scratch? Maybe time for a new DVD player?

DVD Exclusive
ROTS did $175M in DVD sales as of 1/1/06. It should cross $200M easily. In fact based on Marek's tracking ROTS was at approximately 13 Million copies as of a week ago. 2.6 million additional copies would mean at least another $40M in revenue. The total revenue should be at $215M by now.

Catalog Sales
The trilogy sales was tops for catalog sales in 2005 and is $88.8M. Adding the $215M it did in 2004, the Original trilogy sales are a mind boggling $303.8M. Fabulous.
TPM and AOTC sold $22M apiece in 2005. It amounts to an additional 1.5 to 2 Million copies apiece.

Can someone supply an all-time chart that lists total DVD unit sales thru all years of release? I don't know if such a chart exists, but it would be cool to see one.

The local merchant shops here on my base sell bootleg discs, and for whatever reason they continue to sell several with no problems. Some are filmed in the theatre, and some are even genuine copies. I've noticed that several genwine DVD's are available here before they hit the states. The other day I saw a DVD box set containing 3 Star Wars DVD's along with 3 Animated versions. It's in an official box and looks like the real deal. Usually you can pick out the bootlegs easily, as the guys here often mispell the information on the packages. As anyone heard of this? It may already be in the states, however it's difficult for me to know whats current. I'm thinking of getting it just to hold onto. I already ended up with the OT DVD box set and it's still sealed in the plastic. Although it may not be worth anything now, maybe it will years down the road. I'm wondering if anyone has any information about this 6 disc, 3 Original, 3 Animated box set. Thanks.
