I thought Padme was supposed to be written as pretty naive and easily manipulated. She's certainly not someone with a whole lot of value after she betrays Anakin either.

Agreed. She should have took the generous offer of power Anakin gave her.

I think that both Hayden and Natalie were the perfect people to do Anakin and Padme. Also I didn't think they could've gotten to do better characters for the film.
They could have hired someone who might actually know how to pretend getting choked out.
That being said, who cares about her political side. She's hardly the focus of the movie. Worry about more important things like why didn't Obi-Wan have a green saber!!!!

DarkerDonnieDarko posted: I say yes. All the females were weak in the Saga.
I never saw the Queens of Naboo (as small as their roles were in AOTC and ROTS) as weak. Nor did I see the bounty hunter in AOTC (Zam Wessell) as weak. And although they cut out Mon Mothma in ROTS, I found her quite the opposite of "weak".
As for the whole saga: Leia isn't weak. Nor is Mon Mothma in ROTJ. Sure, this is from my own personal opinion, but:
My opinion is that your argument is weak, dude.

Maybe the fact that she's pregnant in ROTS plays a part in her tenderness???

As adorable as I think Nat is, her character in the films didn't do it for me story-wise - but that's okay, because I hardly feel that Padmé is even close to being the focal point of them. She's Luke and Leia's mom...and that's it.
She didn't start a rebellion. She didn't blow up a planet. She didn't step on an Ewok. She bumped uglies with a young Jedi and had twins. Then she died. End of story.

Jumpman posted: One of the biggest reactions/issues that has come out of the release of Episode III is the character of Padme.
My question to you is what are some of your thoughts on her protrayal in this film? Did Lucas focus too much on Padme's personal side and not enough on her political side? Was the character's protrayal in the film what it needed to be? Should he have made her more stronger by opposing Palpatine more? Did he ultimately destroy her character in the eyes of the fans?
Which side do many of you side on with how she is protrayed in the film?
I don't see a betrayal of Padme, more like an inability to fully integrate a real female character into a boys-club universe. Characters in other sci-fi universes(Aeryn Sun in Farscape comes to mind)were able to play many different roles. Padme had one real role in the PT - give birth to Luke and Leia. Anything else was interesting, but incidental

I agree. For me that scenario would've been just as tragic as dying from a broken heart and what's more- it would've been believable.

Her dying for no reason really pisses me off. She should have been poisoned early on in the movie by Nute Gunray, and nothing could stop it, or something like that. It would make his desperation more human. He KNOWS she's dying, and not just havingbad visions.

It's more tragic that Anakin's efforts to hold on to people, results in his destroying the very thing that he covets. It's even ironic when Leia says something along these lines.
Leia: "The more you tighten your grip, the more star systems will slip through your fingers."
The more he tries hold onto Padme, the more he breaks her heart and contributes to her death.

Good Search, I was curious on this one person in the movie, the person in my opinion who wasn't that known in the Star Wars Galaxy, Finis Valorum, the supreme chancellor before Palpatine, anyways here it goes, Finis Valorum in latin means "end of the valorious ones"
