In the book, Sidious said he would intervene if anything went wrong. He didn't, and Dooku was shocked when he said, "Good Anakin! Kill him. Kill him now." Dooku was shocked, and in pain, which is one reason that he might've not said anything. If he would have begged, Sidious surely would have silenced him. He wanted Dooku dead so Anakin could replace him. Begging or putting his thoughts in would have done nothing. Absolutely nothing. Anakin would listen to Palpatine before listening to Dooku. Obi-Wan didn't trust Dooku and didn't listen to him when he said that the Senate was under the influence of the Sith. So why would Anakin listen to him if he said, "Yeah, it's not the Jedi way. Don't kill me, take me as a prisoner! I have no hands, what the heck could I do?" If Anakin would listen to Dooku, then Palpatine wouldn't have it. He would have kept urging him, telling him how important it was to kill him, so he couldn't do anything. "They'd give him mechanical hands back in the prison! He would escape using mind tricks or the Force, which is not wholly in the hands." Anakin wouldn't believe Dooku if he told him what was up. It wasn't in their plan, first of all. Dooku obeyed his master, never questioned him, and did his every bidding. If he wanted him dead, then so be it. Second, they were at war and risks could not be taken.

Although he knew with Sidious turning on him he was about to die anyway sidious was going to make sure of it.

Really? I thought he regarded Palpatine as just another of Sidious' pawns. If he DID know Palpy was Sidious then why the hell did he go along with the whole "let's turn Skywalker to the dark side" game as he must have known about the rule of 2?

Dooku belived Anakin was going to be turned to lead a sith Army or something after sidious had took over the galaxy and of course dooku would be his right hand man.
I agree though Dooku at his age and experience surely must know how the sith work and should have come up with his own plans.

In the Original Screenplay, when Palpatine says "Kill him now", Dooku said "But You promised me amnesty?!" I think this was filmed too but Lucas cut it from the final version.
