Book: It's not about… making sense.
It's about believing in something.
And letting that belief be real enough to change your life.
It's about faith.
You don't fix faith, River. It fixes you.

ewwie topic, but here goes...

"Palpatine certaintly sounds like he's getitng an orgasm when people do evil dark things..does he get a sexual charge out of evil?"

He loves power and control and feels satisfaction from it, this is not the same as
feeling orgasmic. Even rapists/child molesters do what they do for the feeling of
control and power, it's not completely sexual. They are drawn to becoming powerful
over others and forcing them into submission and into becoming the victim.
Palps doesn't sound orgasmic to me, he just sounds like the proverbial cat who just
ate the canary. He got what he wanted and he's ultra pleased.

So, in light of the above, is Palpatine 'in-love' with Anakin? Not in the meaning most of us mean with those words. 'In-bliss' would be a better term -- a state of total mental and psychological blissfulness in Campbell's context, but in a completely evil kind of way.
he blisses out over the idea of a new and powerful possession.

you never know. anybody other than anakin and Padme could be gay. Aayla could be Gay. Mace Windu and Yoda could be in a Relationship. Heck, even C-3PO and R2 could be in a relationship. you never know.

interesting. Anakin didn't get raped, and Palpatine seemed to genuinely care for Anakin (remember the Mustafar scene where Palpatine touches Anakin anmd the other 13 years of being nice to him)

Not in love.

I hesitate to expound based upon the overly kind comments above blush , but Palps is as proudly 'blissful' of Anakin as a warrior king would be of his victorious and faithful knight, or a playoff head coach is of his prized champion athlete. Palps is the brains, Ani the brawn.

So in Campbell's myth-oriented vernacular Palps achieves his bliss at the expense of Anakin, who ironically surrenders his own quest for bliss by following the man who so convincingly (and deceitfully) promised it to him.

Palpatine is Emperor of the galaxy, Anakin is the 'king of pain.' (apologies to Sting).

To follow the musical analogy -- as Tina Turner once sang: "What's love got to do with it?"

Yea I'm pretty sure he just wanted to use him because like Anakin says, 'if your not with me,your my enemy'

Anakin is the only one really capable of destroying him, so he spends years obsessing with turning him to the darkside to insure he wont ever kill him. He doesn't get a sexual rush out of it,he just feeds off dark emotions and feels Anakins power which kinda gets him excited to make him his whipped pig.

no need to blush, obi-chron!
although i have lost you a bit with this one. you mean anakin's bliss lay elsewhere right? i think i agree with you. he surrenders to palps because it's a necessity, not a pleasure. yet palps has both: necessity and pleasure.

^^^
In the EU Palps clones himself, the ultimately perfect incarnation of power. But he does so as a sort of 'escape pod' for his spritual essence,' not to be in two places at once.

That said, cloning Anakin would make an intersting EU novel -- a platoon of Anakin Clone Troopers or a band of 'dark jedi' serving Sidious without Vader's knowledge.

Expanding upon your idea, sushimilk, the ani-clones could've been used for replacement parts for Vader, making him 'stronger' by replacing his lost appendages.

Um... what?

Palpatine loved Anakin like a product confused

That's hillarious, I was thinking the same thing. When everyone reminded Zen that Palps can't love, Zen then says Palps wants to smoke Anakin?? laugh Is that why Palps keeps giving Anakin that blanket and asks him to roll up in it? laugh laugh laugh

Sorry Old_Zen, you make up a laughable topic, then ask us all to take is seriously. If I were 3PO, I probably would have short circuited from the illogic of your opening statement. does not compute...does not compute...

tired This thread inadvertantly has raised some interesting debates focusing on Palpatines relationship with Anakin and his desire for power. Im glad. However my opinion of the absurdity of this thread remains. Its not because its homoerotic its because its such a false notion that anyone who listens to there own sensibilities knows that this post never had any substance. As I said before this more than likely belongs to some sordid niche of fan-fiction. Sure its 2006 and everyone is open minded but those who advocate such a notion should know its tainting the greater princaples of Star Wars in which we believe. Its just not right. And save yourself a post before you decide to label me intolerant to homosexuality. Thats not the case. If someone posted was Padme in love with Kenobi Id have just as much disdain. We all have a taboo side in which we like to indulge but there is little need for sordid implications that have no basis.

doh! It wasnt my intention to offend anyone here but I really had to get it off my chest. Thanks
