RE: Will Death Star be in EpIII?
Ok, I know you all don't like the EU, but I do, so here goes:
In the "JEDI ACADAMY trilogy", there is a prototype superlaser that has been discovered in control by Admiral Daala, the only female Admiral, who sent to the black hole cluster to guard the Imperial owned territory. Due to the black hole, "the maw installation" as her fleet was called, did not have direct communication with Palpatine.
The last orders they had were to guard the
PROTOTYPE SUPERLASER
, which was like the Death Star, except only it's frame. Kyp Durron, Luke's dark side possessed student, steals the Sun Crusher, a ship designed by the Empire that can take an entire sun, blowing up the whole system of planets.
I don't remember exactly how, but someone gets control of the DS superlaser and I think blows some stuff up.
I don't remember much about it, it's been a year since I've read it.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that we may just see a superlaser protoype with only a frame.
I hope we do just to a EU parallel.

I think it'd be really cool to see some dog fights (or at least small glimpses) near or even in the beginning stages of the death star (skeletal form).
Unlikely but it would be cool.

RE: Will Death Star be in EpIII?
Everyone who thinks that second Death Star couldn't have been completed in 5 years is full of crap. Why?
They obviously have forgotten to take into account the involvement of independent contractors who could speed up construction.
BTW, on a serious note, do they ever mention in RotJ that construction of the second Death Star didn't commence until after the first one' construction?
Isn't it at all possible that Palpy wanted more than one of those puppies out there patrolling the galaxy?

RE: Will Death Star be in EpIII?
i didn't know that a thread on this topic had already been started and i inadvertantly started a new one.In any case, here's MY contribution.
The Death Star MUST be in Episode III!I'll tell you why:
1)Obi-Wan recognizes the Death Star in Episode IV! "That's no moon, it's a space station." Come on guys! You know this already!!IfObi-Wan went into hiding after Episode III, then he had to have seen the Death Star in Episode III.It could also mean that he might have had a SIMILAR mission in episode III while the Death Star was in mid- construction!GL does say that the films have recurring themes. An example would be how the final attack on the droid control ships mirrored the attack on the Death Star in ANH.
2) It would be the perfect, final battle.Think about it: the last remnants of the Old Republic battling the newly-spawned imperial Tie Fighters amidst the backdrop of Naboo, the planet that started it all.And who's to say that the final battle won't take place on a lava-ridden Naboo, the first test of the Death Star's planet destroying firepower?i know that Admiral Tarkin says that Alderaan is the first target, but why couldn't Naboo be the first expirement? This would give Lucas the Lava-planet he needs to create Vader and it has a strong bit of irony as well, doesn't it?
okay, so it isn't proof but it would still be cool!
the fact remains:Obi-Wan recognizes the Death Star in A New Hope!!!!Any takers?

First of all: Ob1 uses the force to sense what it is.
Second of all: it may be in there but just not completed maybe about 60% finished.

RE: Will Death Star be in EpIII?
I've read a lot of posts here where people are saying that the Death Star is going to blow up this planet, and this planet, and these people, etc, in Ep.III. Now, I was watching ANH on the weekend and I think what Tarkin says is proof enough that we will not see any planets blowing up in Ep.III via Death Star laser goodness.
"...I think it is time we demonstrated the full power of this station"
Now, It does not mean that the Death Star won't make an appearance (I for one hope not), it may do some damage, but no planets are going to be turned to dust.
What do ya think?

No Death Star. We may see the plans again if there is a point to show them, but that is it. As GRANDMATARKIN stated, watch ANH. The Death Star wasn't operational quite yet when they had that meeting where Tarkin said the Senate had been disolved and when Vader did the Force choke,
"I find your lack of faith disturbing."
When the Death Star became operational, an officer stated that to Tarkin and that is when Tarkin had the idea to do the demonstration on Alderaan.

The Death Star with be in Episode III. It will be partially done and it will destroy the planet Caamas where the final battle of the Clone Wars take place. The Star Wars galaxy map I received in the mail a couple days ago with the insider shows a planet named Caamas that was destroyed 19 years before ANH, where III takes place. I would imagine that 80% of the Jedi are fighting on the ground when the planet is destroyed and the other Jedi run for their lives.

Sad how the EU confuses people...
Hey redwings, anything that is NOT in the movies themselves is NOT considered canon---this means it was not specifically thought of and created by GL himself. The EU can be used to fill in gaps, but it cannot be used as speculation material for the actual movies themselves...

Caamas wasn't destroyed with the Death Star. It was destroyed when the Bothans there, sabatoged the energy sheild, allowing it to be destroyed by fighters, bombers and the like.
Obi-wan knew it wasn't a moon, because it was too metallic looking. And he knew it wasn't Courscant as the sizes didn't match. That and they were too far from it. That left a space station, the same one that Leia mentioned in her holovid.

RE: Will Death Star be in EpIII?
We've already seen the plans to the Death Star in AOTC. Dooku takes them to Sidious at the end....REMEMBER!!!
I think in Ep3 we will see those plans being filled out more.
In ANH, it is stated that they are going to "show the full power of the operational station" or something to that effect.
It doesn't mean that a shell of a detah star could have "experimented" on naboo turning it into a volcanic planet....thus setting up the Vadder battle?
I hope they don't show it, but I have a feeling that GL won't pass up an opportunity to
1. Show the world vader again
2. Show the Death Star or a proto-type
3. Show an dead Ewok as a cusion in Palpatines
Just joking about that last point......of course they won't show the death star
Ha ha ha ha

Will Death Star be in EpIII?
I certainly hope not. It would weaken it's appearance in ANH.
I'd rather see the empire spreading around the galaxy getting things in "Order" by "protecting" the republic from bouts of terrorism by separatist types.
Then, after the long gap between III & ANH, we'll see how the empire has become the ultimate dictatorship, with the ultimate weapon. (e.g., "No one dare oppose the emperor now"). IMO, the Death Star in ANH seals this fate. If we see a Death Star in III, It'll kind of betray the example line I just quoted.
