*OFFICIAL THREAD* Darth Vader in Episode III
This thread is for those who want to speculate their ideas and discuss spoilers about the greatest movie villian of all time and his appearance in EpIII.
There are many ideas floating around these boards. Questions that need answering are:
1. When does Vader show up in EpIII? How much do we see of him?
2. Will Hayden be the actor in the suit when it come time to play him, or will they use someone else?
3. Does Vader do anything at all in EpIII or do we just see a glimpse of him? Does he kill anyone like Mace Windu, or does he have another fight with Obi?
4. Does Vader confront Padme or vice versa? What happens? Does Padme die in front of Vader being electrocuted like Palpatine did to Luke?
5. Does Vader even know about Luke being born at that moment? Imagine a chase scene where Vader is going after the twins! Or does he simply just not know?
6. What kind of severe damage did Anakin receive to put him in the suit to begin with? Is it just from Obi-Wan's lightsabre cuts or did Anakin fall?
7. Did Anakin fall in lava, down a reactor core, or down a cliff?
8. Does Palpatine rescue Anakin, who is Vader at that point?
9. When does Anakin start calling himself VAder?
10. Is it Anakin or Vader that has a confrontation with Dooku? Does that even happen? Will it be similar to ROTJ scenes?
11. Will we see Vader in the armour like in the OT or will it be an earlier version like some of Ralph MacQuirrie's drawings?
12. Is Tarkin a friend of Anakin/Vader in EpIII? Will Tarkin even be there? If so, does he help Palpy deceive Anakin or help him turn him over to the darkside?
These are just a few questions that are apparent on these boards right now. Many more questions will pop up after AOTC is released and we start to get more of a glimpse of Anakin's dark side and what brought him there.

Another point I would like to address is will we see Anakin make the choice to go to the darkside, or is he deceived (which makes him look tragic)?
If he makes the choice, does Anakin/Vader think he is doing it for the greater good? Or is he simply evil?

Yes it states that Vader actually challanges Obi-Wan to a duel because he is frustrated with the pacing of his training.
I honestly dont know if this is true. I find it hard to believe that Anakin goes out of his way to find Obi and challange him, unless Obi confronted Anakin in the first place. Maybe that is what it means.
You can talk about that point in this thread, but you can also generally talk about other ideas concerning Vader here.

My main Anakin/Vader question is does Hayden measure up to David Prowse from the OT? Vader is a very tall man, he is described this way in the original ANH scripts. We see him tower over Luke in TESB. How tall is Hayden in real life?
Also, to what extent does Vader need the mask? Does he really need it to regulate his breathing? If so, then perhaps the nature of his injuries includes his lungs. And will Lucas expand on "Just for once, let me see you with my OWN eyes." Is this just meant to be symbolic, or does the mask actually amplify or alter his vision?
I have read the explantion for Anakin's injuries in the technical commentaries, but it is mostly speculation (of course!) and a lot of EU stuff, unfortunately. Anyone else have their own ideas on these questions?

Hey Obi-Gon! Long time no see.
Yes, I think he was seduced as well, and I think Lucas wants him to be portrayed as a tragic figure rather than a super evil man.
But RM or GL said that EpII is about choices that we make and the consequences of those choices. Will we also see something along the line in EpIII? Obviously Anakin is seduced to think the dark side is more powerful, but are there lies and decpetions placed there by Palpy to trick Anakin into making those choices? Or does Anakin just do it himself?
It will be interesting to see how much of a role Palpatine plays into turning Anakin to the darkside. Same goes for Dooku.

Good questions! Yeah, I dont think Hayden is even close to David Prowse. If you look at Hayden, while he is taller than Obi-Wan, he doesnt look that tall. And he is pretty skinny so I find it hard to believe that he could wear the metal costume that Prowse had to wear. Add to the fact that Prowse was a bodybuilder and there ya go...unless Hayden Christensen undergoes a massive bodybuilding routine before filming EpIII...and I dont think that is gonna happen.
Personally, I dont think anyone other than Prowse can do Vader properly. I dont think HC will play Vader...hopefully someone else will play the part.

As for Vader's injuries, it would be interesting to see if his eyesight is altered by wearing the mask, but I doubt we will be given any insight on that matter.
Maybe in ROTJ, Anakin/Vader was just telling Luke that he wanted to see him without the mask on so he could see Luke's reaction when he saw his father's face for the first time.
When Luke takes of the mask in ROTJ, it doesnt look like Anakin had any eye damage, but the mask probably does affect his eyesight in some manner. Maybe it just makes it dimmer? Like wearing sunglasses all the time. That would be weird for Vader to fight in the carbon freezing chamber in ESB then eh?

About Vader, yeah, obviously something is wrong with his lungs. I wonder what kind of injury does damage to your lungs like that? A lightsabre slash perhaps?

I'm beginning to think that Anakin willingly turns to the dark side because he knows or becomes aware (by Dooku in AOTC?) of the quick power he will receive from it. Anakin is impatient with the Obi-Wan's training. He is angry that he has been "held back" and not allowed to pursue adventure or action. Remember Yoda's line from ESB "Adventure? A Jedi craves not these things"
He is powerless to stop the murder of his mother and will probably be powerless to stop Padme's death Anakin wants to make up for it quickly, so he chooses "the quick and easy path"

So many questions:
As for his vision: I think the mask amplifies his vision for whatever the environment. Night vision type in ESB.
As for Hayden v. Prowse: Maybe Hayden bulks up, or not; it doesn't really matter to me tho because the mesh of cyborg steel and flesh could increase someone's size. I think of the two Terminators in T2.
As for the birth of Luke: The OS said that he didn't know about the birth of the twins. He probably knew that Padme was pregnant he just didn't know it was twins. And then, before he turns to the darkside, he tells OB1, "Hey man, if I have a son and I don't get out of this, give my first light sabre to my son." (Reference to ANH when OB1 gives Luke the sabre. (I know, I'm kind of stuck on this point based on other posts of mine).
As for the seduction: I think it was just that a seduction. A very enticing path to pursue a greater purpose. I imagine that Dooku was not totally evil when he joined Palps. But thought it could be a great means to a better end; rather than the way the council was handling things. I think Dooku was disillusioned with the council and then went to the DS. Anakin's maybe something like that.
I love the mystique about a character we know so much/little about. Keep it up DB!

About Hayden being Vader, just another thought...if Hayden is not tall enough to look like Vader, does Vader then have artificial legs? We know his hand/arm is machine, but what of his legs?
Now that I think of it, what part other than Vader's head is real?? Well, I guess his torso would have to remain too. But are both his arms and legs machine? Or was it just the one hand?
I dont know where I heard this, but rumour had it that (and I guess its EU) that Palpy cut off one of Vader's hands as punishment for losing the first Death Star. I highly doubt that will remain true though.
Does Anakin then lose that hand/arm in AOTC or EpIII?
