I think C-3po knows too much and talks too much. Therefore, he's got to get wiped....... hence his continual reference to "the Maker" as opposed to Master Anakin in the original triolgy. R-2 is saavy enough to keep his memories for the betterment of the rebellion. I can't imagine what Threepio is going to do in Episode III, but then I never imagined Jar Jar handing the everything over to Palpatine on a silver spoon either.

C3PO and R2D2, will mostly have small roles in EP3. - The 2 droids will travel with Padme and Leia into hiding on Alderaan.

Where the gold comes from is anyone guess at the moment - could be just a disguise, or a buff-up like at the end of ANH.

C3PO and R2 - will then stay on Alderaan having the 20 year lifetime before the ANH starts.

Comparing R2 and 3PO, R2 certainly walks on the light side, while 3PO wobbles on the edge of the darkside (fear ---> dark side). It seems that while R2 is always brave, direct, sensible, etc, 3PO is just so full of fear. 3PO is a nice contrast to his maker, as the saga progresses. He goes from "naked" to "scrappy-looking" to beautifully golden in the OT. His maker goes from a wonderful, generous boy with golden hait, to a dark armor-clad villain!

EIII: I hope R2 keeps his memory intact, while 3PO gets wiped, though probably not. Will 3PO turn golden in EIII? I am sure that the brave R2 will save Padme again, or failing her, little Luke when he crash-lands in Dagobah with Yoda.

this needs a good upping. so, how do you think the droids will fit in to Episode III? It seems like they won't have much to do with the plot and are just in the movie because they have to be sad


Or they could have a major role ala R2 in ANH. Any thoughts? happy

just like to point out that i was sufing the net forums on this site and would like to put my theory together please forgive me and my spellings coz ive just had this laptop insalled in my coffin
my piont ..
i think R2 will keep his memory and 3PO will have his erased BUT not by anyone else than ....to keep u all guesing who interacts with 3PO most ?
who talks to him most?
if i had a pawn like my faiful stracker who was a preist in the 60s i would some how erase his memory like i did to father callahan in my move salems lot so back to my point
who is R2s pawn 3PO ofcourse
r2 needs 3PO for his own interpretation to the likes of han luke lia but 3PO talks too much so its R2 i think who will do any erasing what do u think????

I'd like to see it play like this...

R2 and 3P0 are hooked up to some kind of memory wipe machine, the process is started, and the technician (or whoever) leaves the room. Then R2 uses one of his attachments to sever the connection (or at least short it out/disable it... I suppose severing it completely would give him away), looks toward camera, and then lets out a mischievious snicker.

I believe C-3p0's memory is wiped, but I think it is the best interest to keep R2-D2's intact... Bail and Padme realize what a resourceful little droid R2 is, and that he'll be needed in the future to help Luke, Leia and the rebellion...

R2-D2 lies several times in A New Hope, he's very good at keeping secrets and staying true to his mission (like finding Obi-Wan after luring luke into taking off the restraining bolt). He leaves C3pO misinformed constantly, like in RoTJ: "Gift? What gift? R2 you're playing the wrong message!"

Everyone knows threepio has a big mouth and definitely can't keep a secret, he's excluded in most plans and events - which is also why Bail/padme decide to haveh is memory erased, to protect the identity of the twins (leaving R2 to take care of him)

Besides, R2-D2 talks in bleeps and boops and can only *really* be understood by C-3p0, other droids and translating-type equipment (like in Luke's X-wing). When you think about it, the whole entire saga of star wars is being told by R2-D2.

One of the things that bugs The Captain the most is Owen not remembering 3PO.

Captain iMpact's solution is thus...

When Obi-Wan delivers Luke to Owen there should be a protocol droid present, one very similar to 3PO.

Simple.

I have always thought that Obi-wan was the one to erase the droids memory in Revenge of the Sith. I picture it like this, he is told to do so by Yoda, because R2 and 3PO have both witnessed Padme deliver the babies, so since they want to keep the whole thing secret, they decide Obi-wan will take young Luke to Tattooine, and while he is there have the droids memory erased at anchorhead.(mentioned in A New Hope)

R2, however being the clever little droid he is evades the memory wipe, by switching places with another droid. 3PO forgets everything and introduces himself to R2D2, as if they have never met. If you think about it, Obi-wan meets the two droids for the first time since the memory wipe when he is an old man in A New Hope. Now when R2D2 recognizes him in IV Obi-wan says "I don't remember ever owning a droid, very interesting" very suspicious, I bet he is thinking, that Damn droid never got his memory wiped, I better shut up and tell Luke I have never seen this thing before.

Notice also how Owen Lars has seen both droids in the prequel trilogy before, lets not forget he does become there owner in A New Hope. When Obi-wan brings Luke to them maybe he tells Owen about the droids, and what they have seen, and how it is important that if we keep Luke's identity secret the droids must never remember what they have seen. Owen says I'll ship them off to anchorhead my self, but don't be showing your face here anymore for Luke's sake, the Jedi are responsible for Anakin's death, and Luke will have nothing to do with you or the Jedi. That is when Obi-wan says, consider Obi-wan dead I will go by Ben.

A New Hope-

Luke
"The droids seem to be a property of a man name Obi-wan Kenobi, I wonder if they mean Old Ben Kenobi."

Owen and Beru look at each other.

Owen
"Old Ben is just a crazy old wizard, tomorrow I want you to take both those droids to anchorhead and get there memories erased, they belong to us now."

Luke
"But what is the Obi-wan comes looking for them?'

Owen
"He won't, he died about the same time as your father."

Luke
"You knew my father?

Owen
"I told you to forget it.

Beru later tells Owen, Luke is not a farmer, he has too much of his father in him, Owen say, that's what I am afraid of.

It fits so perfect with Episode III.
