Finally got to take a couple minutes and updated the calendar listing on our website.
Also, Ryan "Jedi_Agent" Jones has asked us if we'd like to take over the domain that he's been funding for us all this time (www.rochesterfanforce.com), so I'm going to have KS work on arranging that with him. Of course, this would be another expense that we'd need to fundraise for, but it makes no sense to have Ryan continue funding it.

Might be a good meeting topic at the next meeting...

We can talk about it some at VGTS and again at the April meeting, but I think it would be good to hold on to the domain.

It was decided at our previous meeting that due to extremely low traffic on the Rebellion website, we're going to close it down.
This will save Ryan Jones and our members money that can be used for other purposes.
I'd like to thank Ryan Jones (JediAgent) for being such a good sport and hosting the site all these years.
Ryan, you are one of the founders of 'The Rebellion' and have been a good friend for all these years.

RochesterFanForce.com is the only website that comes up when you search for Rochester on galacticbinder.com though...

I'm not sure why you think this topic is a dead horse...
www.rochesterfanforce.com comes way before a link for these FanForce boards on a google search for "Rochester and Star Wars" by at least 9 entries.
The rochesterfanforce.com site has been what we've used on all our fliers and business cards to promote this group for the past 3-4 years.
If you want me to get information on traffic to the site I probably can, but since I can't get stats on traffic to these forums as a comparison, I'm not sure that it would do much good.
Unfortuntely, it was the concensus that no one was willing to pay for this, not that it was unneccessary to the promotion of our club.
I disagree with the decision to close down rochesterfanforce.com, but since I don't have the money to pay for it either - I can't put money where my mouth is.
This topic needs to remain active to decide what alternatives we're going to use for online promotion. We will now be forced to re-do our fliers and any other promotional materials we have (like t-shirts, links on other websites, business cards, any other signage, our vinyl banner, the version of our logo that includes the website, etc).
Personally I'd rather fundraise the money to keep rochesterfanforce.com then have to re-do all those other things.

As the guy who maintains and updates the FF-UK's website, can I just suggest that the biggest problem with a FF website is not maintaining it, but getting people to contribute to it.
If you can get that sorted, then a website with an easy to remember URL with links to the forums is a great idea!
(Forgive me if I'm preaching to the choir here )

I agree! I myself find theforce.net or whatever it is to be hard to navigate (like to get to these message boards) unless you know exactly what you are looking for. RochesterFanforce.com is easy to remember and to tell new people interested Star Wars. It's just a static site which shouldn't be too hard to maintain links and the calendar on. Just sell a handful of the ROTS pins (which Tom donated) or a raffle (with stuff we are donating) and presto it's paid for. I don't get what the problem is?

The only problem I knew of what funding.
And if DarSolo would like the items they donate go towards website hosting fees - I don't see how anyone could say "no" to that.
Granted, I'm sure the site would look a heck of a lot better if someone other than me (with my VERY basic HTML skills) were to work on the site, but we don't have any other volunteers in that department that I know of.
