IC: Sabe Amidala
Imperial shuttle, Gamma Four
Location: Who knows?

If, if Captain Switek was telling the truth, if they had been knocked out of hyperspace at a particular point and discovered a Star Destroyer awaiting them, a new design the captain had not recognized, and other ships attempting to box them in –who was capable of such an elaborate ploy?

Switek did not mention the location where the shuttle had dropped out of lightspeed-perhaps some particular point, if the shuttle met with an unfortunate accident it could be explained away?

Therefore, two ways of being eliminated. Of course the captains of the ships obeyed their orders, no questions asked, especially if it was given by one who was not to be questioned.

Earlier, when she had stumbled upon Palpatine in Anakin’s quarters – ole Prune Face (who must have had a face job), teased her , treated her lightly. Was that a charade for Anakin and her benefit? Pretend she did not count for much? He had offered her a cup to drink from, he extended his hand –

His hand.

An Emperor’s Hand.

Son of a nerf herder…

The queen’s memory clicked back, back to when she was Captain Sabe Delba of the Naboo Secret Service. On orders she had begun the investigation of a fellow Naboo – Supreme Chancellor Palpatine and had discovered the Supreme Chancellor’s hands were covered with blood.

In his climb to power, Palpatine had used every means at his disposal. Bribery, blackmail, assassination. Of course, he did not always directly commit the dirty work himself. He hired bounty hunters, professional assassins, and he had his own network of operatives.

Delba had enough evidence to put him away forever, beyond forever! The icing on the cake was the evidence she had gathered that he had ordered the assassination of former Chancellor Valorum.

Along with other NSS agents she had been on her way to present the evidence when – Sabe sighed aloud. Palpatine had bribed a fellow agent, her lover and everyone had been killed – or so they thought. Sabe had survived, with all her knowledge of his misdeeds embedded into her memory.

He knew, that she knew. Sabe knew even more now, since reading his secret journal, a copy given to her by Sly Moore. His words had confirmed what she had already known and his words cited even more criminal actions.

Amidala steamed. You sly, slimy, bastard! I have survived innumerable attacks against my life! I’ll survive this one as well!

Sabe was sure it was an Emperor’s Hand who now was obeying his command to eliminate her. The specialty of the resistance group she had formed to defy the Empire was intelligence gathering.

Amidala knew these ‘Hands’ had Force ability and were trained to use the Force, but not to the great extent the Jedi had been trained. Made perfect sense to her – for Sabe was sure Palpatine’s hands were full in keeping Anakin under control.

As an agent of the Emperor, a Hand could command the resources of the Empire, or Palpatine himself could have ordered the ships here.

No matter.

Amidala believed she knew the Emperor’s agent.

There would be another attempt, and they would never arrive home. She had to bring this to an end. The question was – was she strong enough to take out an Emperor’s Hand?

True, she had been trained in the NSS and during the years had improved her abilities to defend herself and to kill if necessary. She knew how to kill with her bare hands, and had done so in the past. She was a crack shot- never missed a target.
She could snap a neck as easy as one could wring a cooking bird’s head.
Sabe knew she could hold her own against any ordinary being. But an Emperor’s Hand was not ordinary – they could use the Force.

A cold, hot chill ran through Sabe. But I have one advantage, I’m defending my life and that of all the others on this shuttle. An Emperor’s Hand is willing to die for Palpatine. I’m not. It’s not going to be easy to take Sabe Delba out.

With calm, the queen unfastened her security belt and slowing standing, a finger activated the com, so Captain Switek may hear the conversation in the cabin.
She smiled towards Aja and Bianca, bidding her handmaidens to help remove the heavy black satin surcoat. The garment was placed across a chair carefully. There. Now no longer burdened with the heavy garment, Sabe could move around with greater freedom.

The queen delicately adjusted the lace upon her right wrist – a signal for her handmaidens to be alert.

Bianca asked if there was anything else and Amidala thanked her, saying no. Aja, her chief handmaiden, gave the slightest of nods. Two looked towards the direction of the pilot’s cabin, while another turned her chair to look towards the head.

The queen placed a friendly hand upon Master Niebloh’s shoulder. Her niece, Ryoo not trained as a handmaiden, knew nothing of the signal she had given a moment before.

“Master Niebloh, I would like you to take your sketch pad and your drawing instruments and upon my description, draw the alien warrior I saw on Lord Vader’s ship.”

“As you wish, Madam.”

The Ursean artist withdrew from one of the bags he had carried on board his pad and drawing utensils.

“I’m ready, your majesty.”

“Very well.” Amidala faced the head, and began to describe the alien she saw Anakin dispatch.

“His forehead was sloped and his face was covered with tattooes, the tattooes were pointed here-"the queen indicated an area of the forehead. " A little larger there in the middle, a triangle of sorts. He had droopy eyes, bluish sacks under the eyes. Little hair on the head, very little. The few strands of hair were long and black. His flesh, how can I describe it? Lumps of flesh, greyish in color - yes that's it. A very little nose, quite stubby in fact, ears pointed….”

Amidala’s voice was calm as she described the alien creature to Niebloh, but her hands flexed. She felt the muscles in her stomach and back tightening. She could almost hear the blood flowing through her veins.

I hope I am wrong, I hope I am wrong.

But if I’m not – I’m sick and tired of being attacked and I’m going to defend my people and myself. I will return to Naboo!

IC: Biggs Darklighter
Location: the Paladin, en route to Hoth System

Biggs grinned back to Luke as he ordered the Bantha Burgers, a Tatooine dish:

“Hey, that’s my home world S P E C I A L I T Y! I knew I liked you kid!,” he stated with glee.

As the kindly server scooped up a patty from the steaming tray, she also added some of the vegetarian stew to the tray:

“A growing boy needs to eat his vegetables,” she pronounced with a smile to Luke.

Biggs shrugged – it wasn’t that he minded vegetables so much, it was just that on his home world of Tatooine, vegetation was scarce so most vegetables came in the form of carbon frozen packages or sometimes even ground up in pill or bar form.

Behind them, Biggs heard a footfall come very close to them, so putting Luke down, he wheeled around to see who it was:

"Ah! There you are, you two. I figured I might find Luke in the galley. You'd make Master Yoda very proud, my young friend. I don't know how many times he'd have to pry me away from some book or another with a 'There is time for Jedi to eat as well' remark. You seem to have a better bede on priorities than I did at your age."

“Master Kenobi….oh, I was en route to bring Luke your way. He was famished….,” he added apologetically as he figured the bearded Jedi Master was there to retrieve Luke.

Evidently, the Jedi Master wasn’t too concerned as his disposition was more haggard but still amiable rather than surly as he had expected as his charge had probably been missing for a good couple of hours.

Biggs sighed in relief and nodded an good-natured welcome to the Jedi. He could tell the Jedi Master hadn’t eaten in a while and knew it himself as his gaze turned in the direction of the buffet style service table.

"Passghetti, please,” came the disinterested order from the Master Jedi.

Biggs could tell the Jedi had much on his mind but his gaze turned to Luke and he smiled wryly at the young Jedi sprite as the anxious server scooped up a heaping pile of the dish and slammed it on Master Kenobi’s tray, it landed with a resonant thud.

"My apologies for the length of my being away. I'm sure that Luke thoroughly enjoyed his tour of the ship, but I hope it didn't inconvenience you greatly,” he stated diplomatically but almost a bit tiredly as they made their way to a table, the Jedi Master searching for some condiments.

“No, no trouble at all. Luke is good kid – I think he’ll make a DECENT Jedi,” he asserted with another grin at Luke. In the short time showing Luke around, he had learned that young Jedi e was proud of his talents and his place among the Jedi – this might rankle him a bit. Biggs got the feeling that Luke wasn’t shooting to be simply a “decent” Jedi.

Biggs grinned at Luke again, he wanted to see how far the Jedi Master would get before he swallowed the tainted dish, finding the little test quite humorous. Jedi could look through a sentient’s mind, read his thoughts but evidently Jedi didn’t bother to scan what they were about to eat, he thought to himself amused.

As the Jedi Master began to stir in the condiments into his dish, Biggs decided the joke had proceeded to far already:

“You’ll need more than just garlic pepper and cheese to make that dish passable, Master Kenobi” he enjoined with a half-cocked grin.

“Let’s just say that there are certain ingredients that a Jedi might not find pleasing to his palette inside the Pasghetti,” he stated with a nod as he exchanged a knowing glance with Luke.

“I recommend Tatooine cuisine always, the Bantha Burgers are always a safe bet,” he added with a smile and a wink to Luke.

“Can I get you a serving, Master Kenobi?” he finished as he stood up and began to make the short trip to the service table, his gaze still on the form of Master Kenobi, just listening for the OK to get it.

IC: Dr Giles Senob, Burgh Eicester, Governor of Naboo, Yomin Nacluf, Defense Minister & Fadine Deesch, Director NSS.
Theed Palace,
Theed, Naboo

“Unfortunately , one cannot arrest a dead man.” Nacluv piped in.

“Panaka was found in his home, dead from a self inflicted blaster wound.” Deesch said calmly.

I wonder, thought Senob. I wonder.

* * * * *

“This interview is concluded,” said the governor standing. He wanted to have a few hours of sleep, before the sun rose. “Your old suite is available, if you wish it Doctor Senob, but you are in the same position as Typho. You were a member of the ARR.”

As the others of the Naboo Council rose from their seats, so did Senob.

“An old country doctor, who was drunk the last few months. What information I know is out of date.”

“You may say your are an old country doctor,” interjected Deesch, “but you are far from that. We may have to move you at a moment’s notice.”

“I understand. Have you heard from Queen Amidala?”

“Her shuttle is overdue,” stated the Defense Minister. “Governor Eicester has been in touch with the Ursean queen.”

Senob looked to the governor who was massaging his temple. “She knows nothing, or claims to. The Empire is on the brink of another conflict with the Confederation, and Queen Amidala is somewhere out there.

Good evening, doctor.”

Senob bowed at the waist. Retrieving his doctor’s bag, he followed the guards who lead him to his old suite which was only a few chambers away from the queen’s.

As the door closed silently behind him, Senob looked about. Nothing had changed.
The walls were painted in a burnt seina, and ivory. The floor to ceiling windows offered a view of the palace gardens.

Right now, Senob didn’t care about the view. He noted the concern upon the Council’s faces when they reported Amidala’s ship was overdue. He too was concerned and tossed his bag upon the bed and followed suit, not bothering to remove his shoes.

Giles closed his eyes. He prayed Sabe was on her way.

IC: STAN, Captain Switek, Gamma Four
Location: hyperspace

The tankdroid continued to scan by various means, the passengers, as well as the ship environment, and the locale outside.
It was just as much of the security apparatus as the two human members of the crew.

Although the action appeared to be over, the heart-rates of two of the handmaidens spiked simultaneously, with no obvious catalyst.
STAN immediately re-focussed his scans on them, Bianca and Aja, and detected increased levels of cardio-vascular and perspiration.

Something was up with them. He replayed his visual scanner for the last five minutes, and what he picked up had him send two signals and hermetically seal the door to the cockpit… all without moving a servo.

* * * *

deep

Still listening intently with one ear at the flight station used by Inca, he started with surprise at the elongated beep from the command station, and quickly stepped round there to see what was up.

Another message from STAN: sleeper bomb

He bared his teeth, annoyed. The code, referencing an insidious terror device placed onto the surface of a starship, referred to a ‘threat from within’.
It meant the Naboo were up to something.

The captain stared at the blank bulkhead behind his seat, as if he could see them through it

Damn them.

He could only hope that they got to Naboo before the Queen and her retinue did something stupid.

To be continued…

IC Queen Amidala & retinue
The slowest shuttle in the Imperial fleet

Ryoo stood, curious and peered over the other shoulder of the Ursean artist as he was sketching her aunt’s description.

“Oohhhhhh, he is sooooo ugly!”

“That’s what I call him , Mr Ugly. But who knows” Amidala laughed, “In his eyes we may be the ones who are hideous.” The queen leaned over, pointing towards the cheeks of the sketch. “A little more lumpier, Master Niebloh, as if the flesh were not his, but added on. As if one too many facial reconstructions…”

The artist complied, shadowing.

“Yes, that’s it…”

IC: Commodore Jill Valentine, Sullustan chief engineer, rear engine block, Nebulon-B frigate,Aysberg
Location: Hyperspace along Rimma Trade Route from Sullust to Bestine

The commodore had boarded the lighter bringing her up to the escort frigate, so fast, that her sandaled toes were still wet from the fuchsia pink nail polish the hotel beautician had been applying.

Aysberg wasn’t even her ship; Valentine’s own Imperial-class Star Destroyer was too badly damaged from its part in the attack on CIS-held Geonosis.
But when she had been asked to pull the smaller vessel from its repair schedule for an emergency, she had decided to tag along.
She did not fancy telling her government why all that was left of the ship was a chunk of steering vane.

Leaving the vessel’s proper commander to do the job, Valentine quickly traversed the long stem of passageways connecting the front part of the oddly designed frigate to the engine block.

Just as she stepped through a blast door into the aft-wards area serving as Engineering, she breathed a sigh of relief.
They had been in hyperspace twenty minutes, and already the bridge had registered three losses of atmospheric pressure around the ship, leading to calls to strengthen the structural integrity with the shields.
Said shields, Delphus JC-671 projected, were fluctuating badly due to unexplained power surges and losses between the bow and the stern.
Experiencing a full blown hull breach whilst in the access corridor, was not something she fancied doing.

As she looked on, a Sullustan in dark red coveralls, under a black sleeveless vest, seemed to be wrestling with a metallic gun-shaped tool, while a crackling blue-white energy arc connected it to an open valve on the bulkhead in front of him.

Is it supposed to be doing that?” She asked dubiously.

She was pretty, slim, well endowed with good round hips, wearing a tight blue top, and black shorts that her backside filled quite nicely, thank you. Since she was unlikely to see her romantic interest, Admiral Jon Thaw for a while, she had cut her dark hair into a tomboyish bob-cut.
A Personal Universal Translator pack hung on a thin brown strap that went from her left hip across to her right shoulder. It seemed like a good idea if you were getting your ships repaired at Sullust.

None of the Imperials on board, herself included, were in uniform, having been called off shore leave too quickly to get changed.

The engineer turned it’s large black eyes to address the newcomer, the glow off the energy arc reflected in the being’s eyes and moist jowl flaps as he looked her up and down. “You the entertainment?

The what?” She furrowed her eyebrows at the query.

Yeah, me an’ the team were promised dancing girls if we agreed to come aboard and fix the ship enroute to its destination.

Do I look like a bleeping dancing girl?” She put up two palms to forestall the response: “Do not answer that. Just tell me please, will we have full shields in forty minutes' time, when we revert at Bestine?

The Sullustan looked away from her as he moved the tool to the conductor on the wall, shortening the power arch.
Long answer or short? I should warn, the short answer is me laughing.

Valentine crossed her arms and glared huffily down at the short engineer. “You do not inspire one with confidence, Chief.

IC: Captain Reed Close, bridge, Imperial Star Destroyer, Prestige
Location: Hyperspace along Hydian Way, passing Rendili

The pit lieutenant rose from his normal area onto the command walkway and brought a scrap of flimsiplast round to the captain.

Captain, new signal from the shuttle. Code-word, sleeper bomb. Does it mean that they have detected one?

Reed looked up at the slim, grey-uniformed subordinate. “In a manner of speaking, lieutenant. The Na-, umm, the passengers are preparing for some sort of action. It may be posturing in case of further attack, since that may be how they interpreted the trouble at Kuat. Or they may hope to gain access to the cockpit and overpower the crew. Who knows. Perrinaw’s analyst thought the occurrence might be possible.

What should we do?

The captain shrugged. “What can we do? I am given to understand that blowing it out of the sky would be frowned on. We are only to intervene against external threat, or if they deviate dramatically from their stated destination.

IC: Captain Kelsey and Others (NRCs)
Location: the Liberty, coming out of Hyperspace near Orellon II, Bastooine System

“Reversion in three…..two…..one. Reversion,” came the call from the large MC80 Cruiser’s Chief Navigator as the vessel smoothly eased into a measured speed as it exited from Hyperspace mode.

The crew was tense as they were here responding to a distress signal that they had picked up while over Anobis. It would seem to the casual observer that there was no need for such tenseness, that it was a simple reaction to a distress signal; ships went down frequently and needed to send out these SOSes every now and then. The ARR had gotten in the habit of responding to these, but lately things had been muddled.

The aid to the rescue of the Jedi on Ryloth from the clutches of both Underworld crimelords and the Imperials, then the security breach and terrorist act on the adjacent Jedi cruiser, followed by the Mandalorian encroachment over Anobis has set them on edge.

Captain Kelsey nodded to his First Officer to scan the area for any hostiles immediately as they settled into a slow crawl in the direction of Orellon II.

It had been decided that they would come out of hyperspace at a distance from the planet, in case this distress signal was some sort of trap – this would give them a chance to turn tail and escape, as they had been ordered to do.

“Nothing, Captain. We’re clear,” he informed the tall, humanoid.

Captain Kelsey scratched at his scraggly beard and waited a few moments in anticipation of something dire but happily accepting the silence, he sat back down.

“The distress signal is still coming in, now loud and clear,” the First Officer asserted as he looked at the Captain.

'Hello, this is Magris Quill, of the Pacifist is there anyone who can aid me, I am in need of assistance. My coordinates the Bastooine System, planet Orellon II in the mid-rim, I am in need of assistance as my ship was badly damaged and need of directions in order to get the proper repairs. This message will repeat once every hour and my beacon has been switched on. The Pacifist out!"

“Is the shuttle with accompanying escort ready, Lieutenant,” he asked as he began to play with the wedding band that he wore on his hand. His wife, it had been forever since he had last seen her. He wondered how she and the kids were doing without him. He wondered if they still remembered him…..

“Yes, sir,” came the reply.

“Good. Open a line to the Pacifist then,” he ordered as leaned back in his chair and activated his station’s comm-link.

The Officer nodded to the Captain, and he nodded back:

Pacifist, this is Consular Ship, the Liberty,” he announced as was required by ARR mandates. They weren’t to identify themselves as members of the Alliance to Restore the Republic until after a situation was considered “safe” enough to do so.

“We received your distress call, and we can send down a shuttle to help repair your ship or to retrieve you and your passengers, if you wish.”

Pausing a moment, he continued, his deep, well-mannered voice echoing:

“I’m ready to send down a shuttle, guided by your beacon, if you so desire,” he finished confidently.

The comm-link crackled as he heard nothing but silence for a few moments….

Looking to his First Officer, he shrugged, hoping he hadn’t been sent on a wild goose chase, however that prospect was infinitely more acceptable than what could have been in the worst case scenario.

Taking the slow boat to China –oops I mean Naboo
Interior Cabin

“Madam, this has to be the most loathsome and repugnant face I’ve ever sketched. Are you sure this was not the stuff of a nightmare, a delusion, the result of the gas?” Niebloh turned his head slightly to the right, taking in the petite queen who stood behind him.

“No, unfortunately I was quite alert when I beheld the warrior and Lord Vader’s dispatching of him. His black armor was quite unique as well. About the alien’s shoulders, huge curvy spikes, likewise at the elbows and knees. The armor reminded me of a crab!”

“In all my life, I’ve never heard of such!” The artist began to render the armor.

“In all my life, I have never seen such, Master Niebloh.”

“From what planet is this being?”

“I do not know Ryoo,” answered Amidala. “I wish I did. There is an old saying, ‘Know thy enemy”….” The queen looked towards the closed fresher door. “If I knew where this warrior came from, I would have a reference point to begin with.”

IC: Captain Ysera Alexstrasza
16 years ago - 10 years before the Voyage of the Albatross

As all this was happening, Ariel's development was proceeding apace.

She was always inquisitive, always watching.

Watching Saint go off into the big barn and disappear inside his explosives workshop. He was so sweet and cuddly, she renamed him Humphrey Bear.

Watching the new man, Arrow, go out to the western paddock and practise firing his ultralong X-45 Sniper Rifle at far-off targets--and hitting the target every single time. She watched him closely, even when he disassembled his rifle. He was so tall and thin, she started calling him Action Man. (She also noticed that Humphrey Bear and Action Man hardly ever even spoke. She did not know why.)

Watching Warlock do chin-ups. From an early age, she had loved his wild dreadlocked hair. He became Hugzy.

Watching the two youngest troopers, Torero and Liquidator, jog together, train together and drink together. This earned them their new callsigns:

Gumbi and Dumbo.

And, of course, watching Laura.

Idolising Laura.

Being the only twenty-something female Ariel knew apart from Alexstrasza, it wasn't unexpected that Laura would become her feminine role model.

And Laura Lockhart was a good role model. She could outlast the men in fitness tests, outwit most of them at dinner-table discussions, and she could often be found studying history books deep into the night.

It was not uncommon to find Ariel sitting in an armchair late at night beside Laura, fast asleep with a book open, trying to imitate the pretty Hapan woman.

But above all, the one person Ariel enjoyed watching the most was Ysera Alexstrasza.

She would never forget the day when Magus had presented Alexstrasza with a shiny new silver arm.

With Laura assisting, Magus spent the whole day attaching the high-tech arm to Alexstrasza's left elbow, pausing every now and then to frown and say something like, "The arm's CPU is experiencing interference from somewhere. Rihaz, would you turn off the holo-vision set, please." Eventually, he changed some frequencies on the arm's central processing unit and it worked to his satisfication.

The four-year-old Ariel had watched them keenly as they worked.

She was aware that Alexstrasza had lost her arm on the day she was born, in the process of saving her life, so she really wanted this new arm to work.

At the end of the day, the arm was on, and Alexstrasza flexed her new metal fingers. Her new hand could actually grip things far more tightly and firmly than her natural right hand could.

True to his word, Magus had built Alexstrasza an arm that was better than the one she'd been born with.

Other things about Alexstrasza intrigued Ariel.

For one thing, of all the team at the farm, she hung out with her the least.

She didn't play with her.

She didn't teach her any special subject.

She would spend most days in her study, pouring over old books--really old books with titles like Ancient Rakata Building Methods, Petohmi and the Architects of the Sôwilô and one really old scroll titled in Sith: A Collection of Wonders from around the Galaxy.

Ariel loved her study.

It had lots of cool stuff arrayed around its walls: sandstone tablets, a crocodile skull, the skeleton of some fish-like creature Ariel couldn't recognise, and hidden in one corner, a glass jar filled with a very strange kind of rusty-red sand. On a secret mission of her own late one night, she discovered that the jar's lid was sealed tight, too tightly for her to open. It remained a mystery.

There was also a medium-sized whiteboard attached to the far wall, on which Alexstrasza had scribbled all sorts of notes and pictures.

Things like:

The Revanchist (3,961-3,955 circa):

Found Ajunta Pall's tomb; also discovered unused Naga Sadow's tomb in the Valley of the Dark Lords in 3,955. Empty tomb, never used.

Unfinished Rakatan-style monuments can be found in a couple of the rooms, such as the obelisk as monument to Naga Sadow is only known picture of Capstone atop the Great Temple of Ziost recieving vertical shaft of sunlight.

After this Alexstrasza had noted: 'XoXaan: only female Sithlord, prolific obelisk builder'.

One note on the board, however, caught Ariel's eye.

It was at the very bottom corner of the whiteboard, under all the others, almost deliberately out of the way. It read simply: '4 MISSING DAYS OF MY LIFE---RALLTIR?'

Once, late at night, she had seen Alexstrasza staring at those words, tapping her pencil against her teeth, lost in thought.

Whenever Alexstrasza worked in her study, her falcon always sat loyally on her shoulder--alerting her with a squawk when anyone approached.

Ariel was intrigued by Lotus.

She was an absolutely stunning bird, proud in her bearing and laserlike in his intensity. He didn't play with Ariel--despite Ariel's continued efforts to coax him.

Bouncing balls, fake mice, nothing Ariel used could draw the falcon out into play. No, whatever silly thing Ariel did to get his attention, Lotus would just stare back at her with total disdain.

Lotus, it seemed, cared for only one person.

Ysera Alexstrasza.

This was a fact Ariel would confirm through experimentation.

One day, when once again Lotus would not be drawn from Alexstrasza's shoulder, Ariel threw her rubber mouse at Alexstrasza.

The falcon moved with striking speed.

He intercepted the tossed mouse easily--in mid-air halfway between Ariel and Alexstrasza--his talons clutching the toy rodent in twin vice-like grips.

Dead mouse.

Lesson learned.

But research was not the only thing Alexstrasza did.

It didn't escape Ariel's notice that while she was busy studying in her classroom, Dreamer would often disappear into the old abandoned mine in the hills beyond the western paddock, not far from the hangar bay. Strangely, she would wear an odd uniform: a fireman's helmet and her canvas jacket.

And Lotus always went with her.

Ariel was strictly forbidden from going into those caves.

Apparently, Magus had built a series of traps in the mine tunnels--traps based on those in the ancient books that he and Alexstrasza studied---and Dreamer would go in there to test herself against the traps.

Ariel found Ysera Alexstrasza to be a bit of a mystery.

And she wondered at times, as children do, if she even liked her at all.

But one thing Ariel didn't know was just how closely she herself was being observed.

Her progress with languages was being carefully monitored.

"She continues to excel," Magus reported, just after she turned nine. "Her transliteration skills are like nothing I have ever seen. And she doesn't even know how good she is. She plays with languages the way Anakin Skywalker plays with his enemies using his lightsaber---she can do things with it, twist it this way and that, in ways you or I can't even begin to imagine."

Dumbo reported, "She's physically fit, good endurance. If it ever becomes necessary, she can run six miles without breaking a sweat."

"And she knows every inch of my study," Alexstrasza said. "She sneaks in there once a week."

Laura said, "I know it isn't mission-related, but she's actually becoming quite good at something else: ballet. Watches it on Holo-cable. Now I know lots of little girls dream of becoming prima ballerinas, but Ariel is actually very good at it, especially considering she's self-taught. She can hold a toe-pose unaided for close to twenty seconds---which is exceptional. The kid just loves ballet, can't get enough of it. It's a girl thing. Think you can get some ballet Holo-discs the next time you go to Coruscant, Magus?"

"Certainly."

"Ballet, you say....." Alexstrasza said.

It came as a surprise to Ariel when she arrived at breakfast one day---again ignoring the sheet on the fridge--and found Alexstrasza waiting for her in the kitchen, alone, dressed and ready to go somewhere.

"Hey, kiddo. Want to go out for a surprise?"

"Sure."

The surprised was a private ship trip to Coruscant and a visit to a performance of Squid Lake by the Mon Calamari Ballet.

Ariel sat through the entire performance with her mouth agape, her eyes wide with wonder, entranced.

Alexstrasza just looked at her the whole time--and maybe once, just once, she even smiled.

Ariel saw the first War of the Sith movie. That holiday, Narsilion, proud of the Corellian-born team behind the film, gave her the three books by Moe and read them with her.

By the time the third film had come and gone, Ariel and Narsilion had re-read the books to within an inch of their lives.

And from those readings of War of the Sith, Ariel got her own callsign.

Narsilion bestowed it on her, naming her after her favourite character in the epic.

Jasmine

The feisty princess from Hapes who kills the alien king, Agrive Dur, the Sithlord whom no man can kill.

Ariel loved her callsign.

And still, every day, she would enter the kitchen and get her juice--and see the sheet of paper with the strange writing on it stuck to the fridge door.

Then one morning, a few days before her tenth birthday, she looked at the uppermost box on it and said, "Huh. I get it now. I know what that says."

Everyone in the kitchen at the time---Myra, Magus, Laura and Humphrey Bear---whirled around instantly.

"What does it say, Ariel?" Magus said, gulping, trying not to show his excitement.

"It's a funny language, uses letters and pictures to create sounds. It says,

Coloussus.
Two entrances, one plain, one not,
Carved by the fifth Great Architect,
Out of Great Sobek's tenth mine.
The easier route lies below the old mouth. Yet
In the Nagai swamp to the south of Retos's mine,
Among Kebos's minions,
Find the four symbols of the Lower Kingdom.
Therein lies the portal to the harder route.'

The next day, the entire team left Raptor's Station on board the Halikarnassós, bound for the Unknown Regions.

That same day the Sun rotated on its axis and the small sunspot that the Rakatans called Sôwilô's Prophet appeared on its surface.

In two years and twenty-days, the Sól Rotation would occur.

To be continued....

IC: Ensign Inca, GAMMA FOUR fresher.
Location: rejoining the Hydian Way after going round Corellian Sector

Inca eased her way out the fresher and climbed back over the boxes to rejoin the Naboo group.

She noticed that they had changed the way they were sitting, with one apparently looking out for her, while the Queen watched the only man in the group do some painting.

She resisted the urge to say,'Boo', and instead crossed quietly to the front of the cabin, skirting the passengers, and almost bounced into the sealed hatch before she realised it wasn't budging.

"Uh, captain, it's me, Ensign Inca. I can't seem to get in." She called plaintively through the metal, and listening for the response. "Child lock? It has a child lock? Yes sir."

Backing off as requested, the door opened slightly with a click, and Switek hauled her sideways roughly through the gap, slamming it shut again.

IC: Queen Amidala & handmaidens
On the slowest shuttle in the galaxy

Amidala allowed the Imperial to walk by, watching by her peripheral vision. Taking their cue from their queen, the handmaidens followed the possible suspect as well.

Either she was a very clever Hand, Sabe thought, or if the Empire continues to recruit females such as Inca, it will fall from the weight of foolish and vapid creatures such as she.

Perhaps, there was an act that required the Imperial Forces to recruit so many females. If so the recruiter definitely was a male oinker, recruiting stereotype females to serve as ‘eye candy’ for the human and humanoid males to oogle.

According to the latest statistics she had read, 54% of the inhabitants of the galaxy were of the female gender. Thank the Powers That Be, it would seem the Empire had recruited the 1% that they considered represented the female population, leaving the intelligent majority .

Sabe reached over and deactivated the com next to her seat.

“How goes the sketch, Master Niebloh?”

OOC: This is a joint post with Ominous and DarthGollumSmeagul. Thank you both of you.

IC: Master Emi-to Shuri, General Torian Darkeyes, and Master Ben Infarious
LOCATION: Torian's quarters, Paladin

General," said Emi with a customary bow, her eyes taking in Master Infarious to whom she gave the same honor. 'Master Infarious, you've exercised quite a recovery! Med Bay have told me you are in your room resting. You seem to rest as swiftly as you heal," she offered with good but curious humor. Yet, in spite of her roused spirits, she most decidedly did not shake the mind in which she was left upon Obi wan’s departure – her awareness overcharged with a series of axial confluences into the past and beyond her into the future, not clear or precise but mixed up as if thrown in a basket, she struggled, her voice wan and hoarse, in an exhausted state. Emi's brow smoothed as she inhaled with a deliberate and slow pace, in effort to restore equilibrium to herself.

Ben smiled, "Yeah well I was getting tired of acting like a fish, and besides, I needed to speak with the good General here about the Xizor situation" Ben settled backl into his chair.

"What's on your mind? Are the other Jedi comfortable?" Torian stood as the pale Councilor entered, and though greeting her professionally, his face in the ambient light invited more than her professional answer.

"Yes, they are quite settled, thank you General. Thank you to all your staff who have been so kind," she offered sincerely, a soft smile. "But I am interrupting,” she added quickly noting the spirits poured, gesturing to them with her hand.

Emi felt another force-adept in Torian’s quarters as she had approached, wondering who it might be that had Torian’s acquaintance and now, of course, seeing it was Infarious, she remembered that the Jedi had come to know the General long before she was free of Coruscant. The dank and cold under world below the industrial dead zone had been her hiding place back then. Triage, scavenging, sheltering the uncounted that had always lived there, had accumulated and swollen in numbers as the disease of anomie had take their lives under a complacent Republic!

Torian looked down at his glass and back at his Jedi wife, "No! Not at all, care to join us for a drink? You look as though you need it about right now," he said, noting the pink tinge to her facial features.

Emi-to looked down, as well, resting her eyes, but glanced up quickly to mouth, 'No, thank you."

Ben frowned "Oh come on Emi, you can take a drink." He said. Then he raised his glass to her and emptied his own. It had been too long since he had a stiff drink, and the beautiful harshness was welcomed like a warm blanket.

She did reflect on Torian’s propitious words and longed to speak with Torian in private, but it would have to wait, it seemed. "Maybe a small bit, for salutary purpose," she excused.

The General poured her a glass of his scotch, the finest he could get on the black market. It went down smooth like plain water but warmed the mind and soul like a lover's touch. Handing the glass over to her, he sat back down and watched her take a sip. This he had to see, a Jedi, sworn to the Order, forsaking love and attachment, married to a gruff old coot and sharing a drink with him. What was the Galaxy coming to!?

Emi took the proffered tumbler her hand looking like a cliché-ed doily next to the large hand of the General. She sniffed in amusement and then raising her glass, tilted it and threw back the scotch in one go and closed her eyes to let the glow rise, the alcohol electrifying her olfactories, and her nose twitching as she stifled a cough, her eyes going teary again, but for less prosaic reasons.

Ben snikered a bit and mumbled, "Lightweight!"

Winking at her, Torian needled, "Come on it wasn't that strong, you've had stronger!" The teasing would never stop as long as she was married to this lug.

Emi coughed into her sleeve lightly and waved at Torian’s goading, but she barely concealed a smile as she looked sternly on Ben and then to Torian.

Ah, she thought, thinking of Torian and their son, what a stick in the mud I was for sending Achilles to sleep in a bunk with his clan. He would be so happy to wander Torian's environs. She could see their son now, eyes big and sliding his hand over the arms of the general’s worn chair. A child does indeed seek the parent!

Though what he had to speak to the general about was important, he knew that he should go. He rose and said. " Well I guess we could continue this later Tor4ian, you two should catch up."

“Ahem…” coughed Master Shuri. “No,” she protested staying Ben with a more serious gaze. “Master Infarious, if you’ve something of moment, please continue your conversation…” she rasped and added, “I’m afraid I have not benefited from the broad experiences of such social indulgences as you.” She patted her chest. Yes, she had meant to ask Master Infarious about that past.

Emi had a native wisdom that didn’t come from experience alone. Ben could appreciate her tendency to come right to the point and if one dismissed her nearly stiff comportment, she tended also to a sort of off-handed humor that made that somewhat off-putting reserve and bluntness endearing. He roused himself as her words sunk through the haze of exhaustion that now began to set in. Healing took quite a bit of energy, reserves he had no idea he could access. Earlier, he’d been filled with a rush of adrenaline, but now he could feel he had reached his peak and whatever had happened to him, this global seeming and unreal transformation coupled with his tired state made him move as if in a dream. Though his vision had moved him, unsettled and broke his heart, it had as quickly healed him. He moved as if in a dream.

Ben retook his seat nodding to her in respect. "Well I was just telling General Torian here that we should not go after Xizor." He shifted in his seat and continued, "While I was healing in the tank I suddenly had a vision of a very dark future, and it all stemmed from us going after him. A future dark especially for The Jedi and the ARR."

"I wasn't aware we had plans to ... go after Xizor," said Emi concerned "You speak quite emphatically. Perhaps you can share your knowlege with me," said Emi now moving toward Ben.

Ben smiled, "Well when I simply meant that I assumed the ARR would go after him as the terroist he is, especialy since the General's own wife was involved in the attack. I know I did….. at first," said Ben looking down at his hands and then he stood and placed them behind his back, pacing a little.

Shuri watched the Master as he rose and quieted himself. Master Secura’s demise was only hours past. It would be unreasonable to expect the difficulty had been passed altogether for Infarious.

"I am sure you are aware that I sometimes have the ability to see future possibilities, much as Fei'ona did, “ informed Ben, speaking of his precognitive ability. “What I saw was my downfall!”

“I killed Xizor, and in doing so sealed the fate of this rebellion." He looked to Torian. "Now I know you are thinking that it would just mean I should not go, but I was strongly driven by the force that this matter should be left alone for the time being. Xizor will die, I have no doubt of that, but now is not the time. Revenge can only lead to darkness. We must not let our feelings guide us in this matter. We must forego our anger." Ben furrowed his brow and rubbed his forehead as he let himself fall into the chair again.

He turned his gaze once again to Emi. "Master Shuri, I saw Aayla, she warned me against this."

"And is there more, Master," urged Emi.

Ben turned away from her, "I saw my death at the hand of my own son."

"I see," nodded Emi. "And you felt this a warning against any effort on the part of Alliance or Jedi?"

Ben turned back to Emi. "I know on the outside it looks like it is simply against my involvement, but I felt the Force was strongly urging me to warn everyone stay away from him for now."

"Your past dealings have nothing to do with this then," said Emi plainly, "you feel this?"

Ben looked at her almost serenley, "If you mean 'Am I afraid to fall to the darkside' then the answer is no, thaty is not what this is about, I truly feel this is where the Force is leading"

Ben looked at her serenely or at least what he hoped was serenely, nearly laughing at himself as he expected he looked goofy, He still felt himself floating in the bacta tank!

"When I was in Vader’s service I had limited experience with Xizor. The Falung’s a self important ass." Ben laughed a little to himself. "He is dangerous don't get me wrong, but my fear does not stem from Xizor, but from the exposure taking him down will bring - a hell we have not even thought possible, a hell greater than when Old Wrinkle butt first took office." Ben looked the tall Counsilor in the eye. "The Force is telling me, and us, to stay away."

Emi blinked and nodded thoughtfully. So many connections! "Then Master, I would say that it is doubly imperative for you in particular to not be put in the position of drawing the attentions of old associates."

Damn all! He felt so groggy. It wasn’t the spirits. Wake up, Ben, he told himself and sighing said,"Yes, Master Shuri, on this we are in agreement, since Vader knows that I know where Luke is, seeing as I am the one that confirmed his suspicions that his son yet lived, in the first place,” He looked up at Emi, vaguely touching back upon those past memories and smiled broadly. "In fact that’s where I met Master Kenobi....."

You are rambling, he chided himself as he pulled himself up in the low chair to break this dull spell he was under. He shook his head as if he was shaking water from an ear and waved off the direction he’s taken, "But I digress, I am hoping that my words ring true for us all to stay away.”

To give more emphasis, and to inject his voice with more urgency he made a fist and wrapped the arm of the chair, saying, “I feel grave danger for all"

"Your counsel is gratefully received, Master. I’ll take what you have said under advisement," said Shuri determining she needed to know more concerning Ben’s former association, but now attending Torian for his input.
