Growing weary of all the perfect scores GTA IV is getting, yet the reviews are riddled with flaws (texture pop-in, cover system isn't perfect, etc.). If the game's not perfect, don't give it a perfect score, ya morons.
I have a feeling that this game will not usurp Kingdom Hearts II's reign as the greatest game of the modern era.

Games criticism is a joke. The only places I really feel I can rely on for honest criticism are Penny Arcade and Zero Punctuation. For more 'formal' reviews, Game Revolution seems pretty good, and Giant Bomb might turn out to be (but they're still pretty new).

Giant Bomb was founded by Jeff Gerstmann, former long-time chief editor of GameSpot, a site often frowned upon by the videogaming community (the 7.5 they gave Ratchet & Clank Future was the nail in their coffin, IMHO). I see no reason why that site will be any better than GS.
Most of the time, I just use Metacritic. If the game has a high percentage, it's probably worth checking out.

The reason I included Giant Bomb is because Gerstmann was fired precisely because of corporate pressure to boost review scores.
And there's nothing wrong with a 7.5. In fact, I would say the problem with games criticism is that scores like that are so unusual. I mean, it's absurd that a reviewer can't hand out a 7.5 (which indicates a good, though not quite great game) without being plastered by fanboys. This sort of environment (combined with pressure from the gaming industry) has created the infamous gaming scale which ranges from 8 to 10. Because of this silly ****, critics have had to come up with stupid ways of differentiating gaming, which is why we have 100-degree scales. The primary concern of games critics stops being their opinion of the game and becomes a reflection of what other critics have said about the game, with a hint of corporate pressure thrown in. The fact is, Gamespot used to be the only mainstream critic I trusted, if only because their scores went all the way down to 7. Gerstmann's firing, though, is sort of emblematic of the state of affairs of the gaming media; criticism has become about agreeing with everyone (other critics, fanboys, and games publishers) more than about actually voicing an opinion.
