Kaida Alcorn
Race Post #4
It just wasn’t as much fun to race when there was no one else in sight, Kaida thought. She was contending with at least two racers ahead of her, and perhaps a few behind, but it was difficult to tell. Certainly no one was close enough to her for her to identify them or their pod. Sometimes that was a good thing — particularly if you couldn’t see anyone because you were yards ahead of the rest of the pack! — but she wasn’t yards ahead, she was still yards behind. Although not as far behind as she had been a few minutes ago.
Think positive
, as her mother always used to say.
Kaida could not wait to get closer to the stands. She wanted to see the fans and hear them cheer, even if they were not all cheering for her. The roar of the crowd was a great motivator and should never be underestimated. A grand crowd had turned out for this race, not just because it was the Race of Champions, although that had a lot to do with it. Coruscant happened to be majorly populated, and the racing commission had had no problem selling tickets on this packed world. It seemed the Coruscanti people loved a good show.
She quickly scanned her instrument panel, checking to make sure everything looked alright. It was only the first lap, and she would really be in trouble if something went wrong so early on. Thankfully, everything seemed fine, although she was not sure how long her pod would last. Four laps was a lot for a race, and she’d be surprised if something didn’t malfunction by the end. With any luck, though, the pod would be fine until at least the third lap. If something happened in the last lap, well…better at the end then the beginning. At least that way she had a fighting chance.

RE: Podracer II: Need For Speed
IC: Dai Konuma
Race Post #9
There was a large momentary blur as Dai hit the turn and his pod shifted quickly to this new angle. He was jarred a bit, and he realized with a frown that this pod was doing worse than he thought. Still, it was sturdy enough to make it to the end of the race, and, in the end, that's all that mattered. Especially because of how well he was racing at the moment, considering the technical inferiority he held in relation to pretty much everyone else in the race.
In the vague corners of Dai's mind, a thought of Rethen popped up. He was too focused to let it consume him like it usually did, but the thought was nonetheless there, and his mind considered the possibilities. What if Rethen was watching at this moment? On some remote television station, in some strange corner of the galaxy, perhaps he was there...watching, cheering, hoping...
The seperation of the two Konuma brothers still weighed heavily upon him. He was young at the time, yet it felt as if a large portion of his life had been removed without purpose. He...he just wanted closure. All he wanted to know was whether or not Rethen was still alive. This constant wondering burned away at him, and he didn't know how much longer he could take it. It just...hurt.
Once again, Dai pushed the thought out of his mind. He'd have an endless amount of time in the offseason. Now, he had to race, and he was going to enjoy it, without the needless considerations. This was, after all, a sport. And he was going to have fun with it.

Nava Kree
Race Post #7
Nava whistled softly, as she rounded the curve, and then throttled the engines a bit more. The second curve came up, and she easily took it as well. At the moment, the pods were far enough apart to keep from any serious bumping. That woudlnt last long, as she planned to take advantage of it, while she could. The split was now coming up, and again, she prepared to take the inner track.
Nava now settled her focus on the pods in front of her. Very soon, she would be coming up on the halfway mark of the race. And she needed to stay focused, and start doing what she did best. Her smile faded, as she began to plot her next method of attack.
Once this turn was done, she could really turn on the afterburners. Time to make a few folks sweat.
Turim and Mova Kree (Nava Kree's family)
So far the race had been not too violent to watch. It was still quite dizzying, but nothing like say, the race on the volcano planet. Turim and Mova both watched on the vids, as the pods slipped out of view.
Mova looked up at the skies, saying a soft prayer, as she watched her errant daughter tiny pod race down the track. She wa glad that the season was dying down. She would be able to finally relax. Turim held Mova's hand as they silently watch the race together.

Kaida Alcorn
Race Post #5
Kaida was finally coming up on the turn, which quite pleased her. The turn meant she was that much closer to the starting line and her second lap, although she still had a way to go before that. She eased off the engines ever so slightly, just enough to keep her pod from careening into the sides of the track, and throttled back up as soon as it was safe. Podracing was a dangerous game, and there was no getting around that fact, but it would never do to crash and burn over something so simple and avoidable.
Doubtless the fans were waiting with baited breath to see some sort of drama unfold (it usually did at podraces) but she preferred not to be the one to grant them such a show. If she had her way, the only drama they were likely to see was the drama of a neck-and-neck showdown for the top spots.
She wondered if her parents were watching — her mother had been excited to come, and her father had promised to attend as well, but she had heard something about him possibly being held back by his research. Even if he wasn’t physically present at the racetrack, Kaida hoped he was watching over the HoloNet — it meant a lot to have her family’s support. She knew of at least ten friends who had camped out for the best seats, for which she was incredibly grateful, but they were only ten among thousands. She would never be able to see them. With any luck they would be able to visit after the race. Perhaps Lyssie would even let them back to wait in the hangar when she landed. Lyssie was becoming seriously cooler by the day, and it sounded like something she
might
allow now that she was schooled in the ways of galactic teens.
If only she could finish the race and get to the celebrations!

OOC: Sure, short post, but my internet crashes every five minutes, so it's the best I can put up.
IC: Dai Konuma
Race Post #11
The race was intensifying, that was sure. Every second the pods flew down the course, racing to the final goal, the cheers of the crowd grew louder and louder, encompassing the city sky. The capital shook with anticipation, and soon, in a heartbeat, it would all be over.
Yet right now, all that mattered was the control bars and the track about him. Nava Kree was catching up too quickly for Dai's liking, and he had to do something fast if he intended to negate her speed. He knew that everything he could do would be potentially dangerous, especially considering the state of his pod, but he had to try. Dai slammed down hard on a button, but frowned as it had no effect. He hit it again before the button whirred to life and did its job, turning the pod upside down momentarily.
At the speed he was going he knew he couldn't stay upside down too long, so he quickly veered up, the pod doing a midair flip, before landing back down hard, shaking about his hair to see if his move had any effect at all. It seemed to have helped, and certainly was flashy, but unfortunately, not too much was succeded.
Oh well, at least it was something for the fans, anyway.

Nava Kree
Race Post #8
Nava came out of the turn, she had gently smacked the railing, drifitng a bit too far towards the side of the track. She let out a small chirp, as the blue glow changed colors slightly. She moved to corrected herself, and then began to chirp once more. Sneaky. Nava ears dipped forward and then backwards, as her earrings jingled softly. She gave a wicked grin. The designers of this track was a bit more wicked than she originally gave them credit. Especially with a night race to contend with. The track seemed so simple and innocent. No pools of lava. No steep cliffs, or other obsticals.
But it was a false sense of security. This track, at night within all the lighting of Coruscant, was a bit more wicked than it seemed to be. It was easy to drift off. To let your mind wander. Even with other pods rumbling nearby. Thank goodness for Electro-walls, but smacking up against them was not pleasant, even if her ship was mostling biomatter. It was quite a strange sensation.
She would have to be a bit more careful now, as the engines from the pods in front of her were growing ever closer now. She took the relatively smooth course to tick up some speed, but keeping it held back some, as she had the northern curve to deal with.
She gave a quick thought to her parents. She hopped they were their, and watching her. She was NOT going to make a mistake. Not now. Not with her parents watching.
No, she determined to do what Dai and she had toasted a drink to...
"To make this a race they would remember!"
Nava's eyes went to mere slits, as she gently patted her pod. "One more lap, we do. Then we show, what you can really do!" Nava suddenly had to steer over to once side once more as she drew closer to Dai's pod. It did something rather unexpected. It flipped upside down. As Nava wondered what in the world he was trying to do, his pod quickly veered up, the pod doing a midair flip, before landing back down hard on the tracks.

Kaida Alcorn
Race Post #6
The roars of the crowd suddenly became much louder. Kaida could hear it even over the sound of her engines. But there had been no fallout from a crash, so she could only assume that one of the pods up ahead had been showing off. People always loved that. Kaida loved it too…if it meant she would have a better chance of catching up. It wasn’t usual for racers to do fancy maneuvers this early in the race, unless the track necessitated it. She wondered what had brought on such behavior, and regretted not witnessing it herself. Luckily, she was about to round the corner, so she would be able to see everything soon.
Kaida kicked her pod into high gear again.
Come on, just give me a little more effort so we can catch up,
she urged her pod. She might not have a chance of getting first place, but it would be nice to be close enough to make the other contenders a little nervous, if nothing else.
As she came around the bend, she could see the sparkling engines of the two pods ahead of her. It was beautiful, the way they flew so high above the city. Of course, there were invisible walls keeping the pods there, but if you pushed that out of your mind and just looked with your eyes, it seemed like magic. The twinkling lights of the city below provided a breathtaking backdrop for the race above.
She was glad she had come to race, not just for the race itself, but for the memories of flying across Coruscant’s sky.

RE: Podracer II: Need For Speed
OOC: Aww, Ktala, you caught me. =3
IC: Dai Konuma
Race Post #11 (for real this time)
The twin engines pulled Dai's pod furiously, seething with anticipation for the final lap. The stage was set now, and the three racers knew that they were now in an area where they were pretty much all gurranteed to place. However, in the Championship, placing was never enough. It was first, or it was a loss.
Knowing this, Dai took a quick look back to see the positions of the racers. As ever, there was Nava, charging her pod to meet him. Just rounding the curve came Kaida Alcorn, attempting to catch up with the others. He didn't see Deimos Odai, who must've fallen behind after his initial charge in the beginning. Dorun, a racer who's performance Dai had been interested in testing once more, was completely gone at the moment. It was a shame, really. Hopefully the two in the back were competeing. That would make for an interesting reason to rewatch the Championship, although Dai had more then enough reasons to rewatch this race.
Dai pulled hard to the left as the crowd's vigorous cheers died back down to its usual level. He raced hard now as he made the turn, noting the nearly invisible walls marking the room he was racing in. It was interesting, really, to note their position. It fed his racing nirvana to feel the cool rush of wind go by his face, and he took it all in. This was his life...and how he dreaded the off-season.
Considering the places about him, Dai watched silently, keeping the majority of his concentration on winning. He had passed through the second lap now, and he was on the third one. He had one more to go, and it was time to prove that he truly could be the Champion of Podracing.

Race Post #9
The pods were getting closer now. Nava had to be a bit more careful, as she entered the turns. Dai was starting to warm things up now. His little trick in the turn, was rather unexpected. If she had not been playing attention, she would be flying along with the rest of the traffic high above Coruscant by now.
Nava gave out a chirp as she neared the begining of the tracks was more. Here was the straight away. The lovely spot where she could really pour on the engines throttles. Her engines hummed to life, as she moved forward, but she didnt pour it on just yet. Just wait. There was still the last lap to consider.
Then, she would show them just what her tiny pod could do.
Nava decided to skip the pod down the track, to quickly eat up some distance between her and Dai. She needed to be close for the next part.

Kaida Alcorn
Race Post #7
Kaida found it interesting (and just a little distressing) that she seemed to be racing to catch up to Dai and Nava, but no one was racing to catch up with
her
. Now that she knew there were only two pods ahead of her, she wondered where the others were. A quick glance back revealed no sign of any pods. In reality, that was good news for her. At this rate, she would only have two other racers to contend with. Mentally, though, it made her feel as though she was in last place, and she hated that feeling.
She would not give up just yet, but she had to give a thought to her current placement. If she came in third, would people say she’d lost her touch? Placing third in the Race of Champions was not something to scoff at by any means — think of how many other racers had not even been invited to take part in this competition! — but neither was it great. She was someone who was used to neck-and-neck jostling for first and second place. Third would be just a
tiny
disappointment. She had to make the best of things, though.
The tide might still turn.
Goodness knew she had better enjoy the race while it lasted, whether she was third place or dead last. When this was over, she’d promised to hit the books again, at least until the end of the school term. She was working on a paper entitled
Court Painting on Hapes: The Works of Three Great Artists-in-Residence in the Early Founding Era
and it had been the source of several headaches. Even though she had had the benefit of a personal tour of the palace galleries on the capital world, a few key points were still eluding her. One thing was certain: she would rather race around this track on Coruscant all day than finish that horrid paper.
Let’s try to put up a good fight
, she urged her pod, pressing a few switches to close a couple of open hatches, with the hope of reducing some drag.
If nothing else, we should be able to take away some fun memories from this race.

GM's OOC:
Surprise
IC: Race of Champions
Location: Skies of Coruscant
Crowds cheered as the Race of Champions slowly wore its way down. In the front was Dai Konuma, trying to stay ahead of his fierce competitor Nava Kree. And following was the surprise of the season, the ever agile Kaida Alcorn. Deimos Odai was somewhere out in the rear end of the pack, while Murrg and Madd’ had seem to have pulled a no show in the most important race of the season.
The leader, Dai, had just cleared the starting line and was beginning his final lap. The anticipation was high. Could he keep it up? This was the big question on everyone’s mind.
Then, a number of things happened at once, that made every heart watching skip a beat.
First was the sound. Laserfire and the explosion of vehicles.
Then there was the sight. A Capital Security police ship falling from the sky between the tracks. It was on flames, certainly the target of the unknown terror above. A small explosion broke from it as it plummeted down to the planet’s floor.
Soon the culprit was spotted, a long, needle-nosed vessel with a mysterious six fingered insignia on it. It slowly swooped around the track, first one side, then swooping over Dai as he raced around the curve and taking position near the starting line.
It certainly looked to be an ugly, some cobbled together ship. And it was in direct breech of the ROC’s security cordon. Sirens could be heard in the distance as fighters and heavy assault swoops were being scrambled. It hung, its repulsors firing, like some sinister rod of doom.
The ship then let loose…
With a vreeeeeee, two buzzdroid missiles burst from the craft, heading straight towards the repulsortrack generators comprising one of the many segments of track. Sparks arced around them, and soon they exploded, and the shimmering blue road they emitted winked out, leaving dark night air in its place.
The next segment of track winked out as well, as their generators overloaded from the added strain of the lost track, but the third segment did not.
A different sort of missile, a heavy Galactic Alliance “Terminator-8” was heard, as one of the police fighters arrived on scene and started firing. The mysterious vessel, seemingly taken back, took the full brunt of the explosion, an almost fatal blow as fire erupted from it and hull breeches could be seen.
Surprisingly though, the engines were still responsive, and the vessel began moving over the finish line and to the other side of the track. Two more, quicker, assault swoops raced towards it, peppering the ion engines with laser fire. They were greeted with a fiery success.
As the power system for the craft flickered off, it began a precipitous fall. Its pilots must have still been alive, because it looked like it was heading straight towards the rear end of the track.
The falling fighter sliced through the repulsor-track like a hot knife, as the reactors for the segment immediately blew. The chain reaction there was a larger four sections long, with the fifth reactors holding off the strain. The placement boards immediately switched off and began spewing technical data on the state of the damaged track, and of the pods still streaking along it. Fans were screaming and in some stands, small stampedes were happening.
Up in the boxes, emergency calls were being sent out to all racers on the track…
“Attention ROC Racers! This is Commissioner Slydell. There has been an attack on the Repulsortrack. Sections 40 through 44 are missing, as well as sections 18-20. Immediately kill your engines and come to a full break. I repeat.
Kill your engines and come to a full break
. The ROC has been attacked and the track is compromised!”
The galaxy watching on the Holonet waited with bated breath to see what would become of the superstars of the Podracing Season.

Nava Kree
Race Post #10
The beginning of the track once more loomed into view. With this, there would not be many laps left. Now it was time, once she passed this point, to start using the many tricks she had, in order to catch up to the podracer who gave her the most trouble.
Dai.
Skipping her pod seemed to help. Taking the high ground so to speak, helped her to close the distance between Dai and herself, and she was going to take full advantge of it. She knew that Dai would probably pull a trick, causing her to back up, so she would have to be prepared this time.
Nava leaned back, ears back as she wiggled both toes now. Her pods engines hummed with power, as she shot down the straightway of the track. Very soon now.
Amazing how things can suddenly so very quickly.
Even with all of Nava's planning, she was not prepared for
THIS!
She was closing in on Dai when suddenly her ears were assailed with a sound she never expected to hear on a race track. Laserfire. Her ears perked up, as the sounds on an explosion followed. Nava now crained her ears around, as she let out a series of frantic chirps. That was NOT coming from the track. She could tell that.
Suddenly, Nava let out a shrill shreek as motion made her look up. A HUGE police ship falling from the sky between the tracks. It was in flames, and most importantly, heading right for them. A small explosion broke from it as it plummeted down to the planet’s floor. Nava began to roll and skip her pod, as she began avoiding the bits that were falling down upon the track.
Soon she spotted another ship, a long, needle-nosed vessel with a mysterious six fingered insignia on it. Nava reached down, and wiggled her toes and rear frantically, as she pulled back, releasing the air fins she had fitted on her pod eariler. This ship was coming too close to the track. It slowly swooped around the track, first one side, then swooping over Dai as he raced around the curve and taking position near the starting line.
Nava suddenly began to think of the assassination attack from the eariler race, and she felt her stomach drop. Sirens could be heard in the distance as fighters and heavy assault swoops were being scrambled. It hung, its repulsors firing, like some sinister rod of doom. Nava hit her emergency thruster, sending her pod into a controlled spin. Having weapons pointed at her was NOT part of the race!
Nava chitterings increased in volume as she yanked her controls. And then what she feared most happened. The mystery ship fired.
A different sort of missile, something Nava had no idea what it was. But it was coming from another huge ship, probably a Coruscant vessel. The mysterious vessel, seemingly taken back, took the full brunt of the explosion, an almost fatal blow as fire erupted from it and hull breeches could be seen.
Nava began to feel as she was in a bad Holo-vid soap opera. Having parts of the track wink out, so suddenly, she was glad she had opted for extras. As she swung her vessel about, and skipped over an open part of the track, she fired her thrusters, sending her back down, with a harder thump than she had anticipated. She spoke now to her pod, gently talking to it, as her hands, toes and even ears frantically worked controls.
Much to her horror, the other vessel began moving over the finish line and to the other side of the track. Two more, quicker, assault swoops raced towards it, peppering the ion engines with laser fire. They were greeted with a fiery success. And then other ship fell. But it did not seem to give up, as it headed straight for the rear end of the track.
Suddenly, her com system went ballistic.
“Attention ROC Racers! This is Commissioner Slydell. There has been an attack on the Repulsortrack. Sections 40 through 44 are missing, as well as sections 18-20. Immediately kill your engines and come to a full break. I repeat. Kill your engines and come to a full break. The ROC has been attacked and the track is compromised!”
KILL ENGINES?!!!! FUll BREAK!!
Nava looked in front of her. She had made a small hop over one damaged area, but in front of her, the field, was like a flaming land mine. And the huge sections of track were coming up fast.
Nava swore, as she was NOT going to enjoy the next part. Killing engines RIGHT NOW..would send her flying into the crowds. Nava reached down, and slapped both buttons. The engies she had planned to whip out on the last section, to deal with Dai, were being put to use right now. The silently slid down into postion, but instead of forward, she gave the command to reverse thruster. Her air fins, emergency thruster, and even her main engines were now put into reverse, as she worked to stop her ship, without running into the stands, or slamming into a burning chunk of ship or track.
Her pod made a sound she had never heard before, as it was doing its best to come to a stop. Nava began to aim her pod down, rolling it. A break was coming up soon, and she rather be on the track, so she would not be launched into open space. If she did a controlled shot with her thrusters just right, she could hop over it, and stop.
She hoped.
Turim and Mova Kree (Nava Kree's family)
Nava's mom made a high pitch sound, as she saw the other pod racers pod suddenly flip upside down, and then leap, spin, and come back down rather close to Nava's pod. Turim simply pattered her hand, trying his best to reassure her. "Just trying to rattle nerves..." Turim told her.
"Well. It worked! MINE Rattled!" Mova shot back, as she looked at the pods getting close once more. She didnt like that little manuever, but she knew that things were about to get a bit rougher, as Nava's pod began to speed up.
Mova gently nibbled on an ear, as she continued to watch the race. Turim gave no indication of emotions so far. He simply held a smug look on his face, as his ears stayed in a neutral position.
Then the skies above them went insane.
Laserfire and the explosions. A strange ship, crashing down on the track, flames everywhere. Turim moved to shield Mova, pulling her back as chaos errupted around them. Mova was staring at horror at the track, while Turim was watching for items falling on them. He also kept his eyes on the crowds, which were now getting ugly.
A huge ship fell from the sky between the tracks. It was on flames, certainly the target of the unknown terror above. A small explosion broke from it as it plummeted down to the planet’s floor. Then another ship appeared, firing on the track at the racers.
Mova screamed and then fainted as she watched the strang ship take shots at the track and racers below. Turim caught her, his mind suddenly thinking about the attack on his house eariler. Was the same person, now going after ALL the racers?
More explosions happened, and Murim held on to Mova as he took refuge under some seats, away from the crowds. Advantages to being small. He quickly decided that staying in the SA seating area might not be best, but considering the stampeeding crowds, it might be a bit safer. He did decided to move to another area, carrying Mova carefully, using his ears and chirping to avoid the crowds. He heard the call for the racers to stop their ships, but seeing the damaged on the tracks, he simply hopped they would be able to. He wanted to check on Nava, but he had to take care of Mova first. Turim glided through the seats, gently carrying Mova. Once he reached the bottom, he could get a good look at the tracks, and the damage done.
He could only pray it was not as bad as he thought it was.
