Why don't we? We're only a couple of weeks away from July 4. A RPF barbecue in early July is an idea worth consideration.

What about the people in Australia?
Speaking seriously, though, I don't see why we couldn't have a general sort of celebration thread next month. I'm sure I could dream up a reason for it.

A RPF Anniversary thread perhaps? Not that I know when the forum was started but...
On topic I don't think there is anything wrong with this forum at all - although I am still too scared to post in Hoopers

I don't think there's much wrong - I just consider that a kind of 'RP Noticeboard' needs to be put up here, where GM's can advertise characters they need. That way people seeking a game can get a better idea.
Kind of like.
'Sinrebirth - Needs an Imperial Knight for the 128 ABY game'
That's all.

I believe that this would be of great use both here, and on the NSW RPF.

While the idea is good, we actually already have one of those things...
Check it out:
The RPG Introductions Service
People should use it more!
As to my opinions on the matter, the SWRPF is in good shape. Theres always people wanting to play in it, theres a healthy number of games going on. It should be strong, considering its on a SW Message Board. The SWRPF is definitely the anchor of the Role Playing Community here.
As to community building ideas, I don't see why not! They would just need to be executed properly.
Ideas for such a shindig could be like:
* Christmas in July
* Picnic in the Park
* Summer Camp
* Camping Trip
* Pool Party
* Day at the Beach

No problems here, besides the fact that I have a horrible time getting people to join my RPG, even if I do post in the Introduction Service. Maybe people don't want to take the time to read a well thought out and laid out RPG and flock towards those that say: "War!" for the plotline, have little rules and then a character sheet. Meh.

Nutty idea: have a celebration on this board -- but make it a costume ball. That is, everyone has to post in the thread as one of the characters they're running at the moment in one of their RPGs. With the rule that their characters have to chill like they're actually at a party.

Oooh...Good Idea Saint.
Going back to what everyone has been talking about, the only game I have ever seen that suceeded in dropping the space drama clichés was none other than the 007 Series, one which, I'm not sorry to say, many of us didn't take seriously. People in these forums need to learn how to have fun again. How to tell a joke, and to make a pun, how to have a cool character that isn't a force user. I mean come on. Short of Ewan McGreggor as Obi-Wan, the top characters from Star Wars aren't even force users. Han Solo, Bobba Fett, Atton Rand, Chewie, the Droids, the list goes on and on.
Everybody needs to just chill out, have some fun, and learn that you can have a not-angst ridden chacter that is just as fun as everyones favorite anti-hero.

I think a game like the Christmas Ball would be great, cause that was a lot of fun. I think something like a Summer Camp would be a great idea. It would provide many areas of gaming that we could go into. It could even encompass all aspects of a camping trip game, which would be a lot of fun.

I love the RPF.
There's not much I'd change. LightWarden was spot on with his comments about bad RPing habits, there's not really much I can add on that score.
The only thing I'd really like to see: another multi-thread Star Wars epic. Nothing builds community like that. The veterans, the current stars, the up-and-comers and the complete newbies, all integrated together in one game, every one of them an important cog in a larger machine. That was one of the things I loved about IBoP, that everybody was having fun in the same enormous playground- from the lowliest padawan to the Emperor himself. You need most people to start at the bottom in a game of that size, but the system of promotion was so simple yet so rewarding: post often, post well, and soon enough you’ll have gone from training exercises on Yavin to dealing with galaxy-shaking events.
Mix it up a little, sure. Maybe set it in an unusual era. Off the top of my head, the early years of the Republic. All the usual factions are in a formative state- let the players shape them as they please. There are huge regions of the galaxy to be explored. We have the basic foundations for a SW gameworld in place, but with room to create and define as we go.
Is such a game likely? Well, I know we have enough talented players and enough talented GMs (if we could get everyone on board). What I don’t know is if we have the motivation or the commitment.

Yes, I am back, having flown the coop that is Chinese internet censoring to get here. The RPF has a horrible hold over me, it seems that I can never escape, even from halfway across the world.
EDIT: Actually the internet filters don't affect the JC but I rather like to make weak puns in reference to my username.

I agree with Winged_Jedi (Welcome back by the way! ). Another RPG like IBoP would be a great help to the RPF.
