Couple of things, guys:

(1) SuperShadow's full of manure. Always has been. One half of the material he posted had already been released by credible, sane sources well before he got his so-called exclusives. The other half is stuff he purely made up out of nowhere, without a basis at all. We Do Not Speak His Name In This Place. wink grin

(2) Beta-Commando, your take on the multi-thread is an interesting one ... what Winged_Jedi was talking about was IBOP, or Integrated Balance Of Power, an RPG that Lightside_Apprentice had dominion over a couple of years back. You'll still see the single "Balance of Power Revisited" thread trundle up the board from time to time, which is a much more pared-down and object-oriented thread.

Basically, IBOP was a reworking of the original Balance of Power RPG, which was pretty much an all-in, Empire vs. Rebellion RPG where the timeline wasn't fixed -- Vader could die, the Emperor could die, pretty much anybody could go out -- and pretty much anybody could rise to become Emperor, or head of the Republic.

Balance of Power was a success on its own, but after a lot of thought Lightside rereleased it as the IBOP, which had several threads running at the same time -- all within the same universe, but different factions: one for the Empire, one for the Rebellion, one for Smaller Factions, one for Force-users (Jedi and Sith), and (eventually) one for the Yuuzhan Vong when they entered the galaxy. There was also a single "informational" thread which also doubled as the thread to go into when, say, the Empire and the Rebellion engaged in battle with one another: the conflict was roleplayed out in the Info thread. Each of these threads had its own GM who oversaw that thread. And aside from the standard RPG rules, people pretty much *all* started out at a minor level of character -- private in the army, pilot in the navy, senator, and so on. Good roleplaying, and frequent roleplaying, allowed your character to rise in rank and importance. The whole thing lasted for ages, and was considered the flagship RPG for the SWRPF. I still don't know how the hell Lightside held it all together, because it was appallingly huge, but he did have some really good players running the various threads: Ktala, GreyJedi125, GrandadmiralJello, and Handmaiden_Yane, to name a few.

What Wings said is right: it certainly built community, because pretty much everyone got into it at one time or another. For my part, I'd love to see the idea brought back to life -- I personally think in an Old Republic/Fall of the Jedi timeline -- but I'm dubious because I don't think we've got quite as many players on the boards as we used to. Having said that, it's a damn shame you missed out on IBOP, because if your posting on "Galactic Trader" is anything to go by, you would've really enjoyed yourself.

Still, if GT:TGR works, maybe we can advocate the addition of a traders' arm into the "next" IBOP? grin

You know what the only thing that actually bothers me is? This is completely not NP's fault or really any one person for that manner, the way RPGs with the potential for greatness just suddenly stop, Cemero knows exactly what I'm talking about. People stop posting for some odd reason. It makes me afraid that my RPG (see signature) will suffer said fate. What can be done to prevent it?

Saintheart: Yeah, it is a shame... And I do know what IBOP is; it only took a bit of reading others conversations and all to piece it together... Though I didn't get it all right.

But it was sort of what I was proposing, mainly because I don't deal with linear storylines. I hate them, just hate them. The only reason I accept GT:GR's linearity (At least it seems like it thinking ) is because, aside from the fact I know you're one of the best, if not the best GMs around, it's that the propect of it all really appeals to me. I love economic and political intrigue RPs. Besides, I never read the EU books based in that time... I just went from the Thrawn books to the Legacy of the Force novels. So... its all non-linear to me! wink

So, if anyone even has the slightest notion of starting the next IBOP, I'll help in anyway.

Also, Saintheart, you said: Having said that, it's a damn shame you missed out on IBOP, because if your posting on "Galactic Trader" is anything to go by, you would've really enjoyed yourself.

Yeah, I never wrote like that before... It's a breakthrough for me. I guess I'm so excited to be in such an awesome RP, I can't help but write like that. In fact, I'm so excited, I check to see if anyone's posted just about every en, twenty minutes that I'm online... And grow impatient, hence my post right after the one who posted after me... You just know I had written that as soon as my first post had been done. wink I guess I'll just grab a cup of Caf and settle down after a nice thirty minutes in the 'fresher...

You also said: For my part, I'd love to see the idea brought back to life -- I personally think in an Old Republic/Fall of the Jedi timeline.

Well, with some expertise and help from you, Imperial_Hammer, Lightside_Apprentice (If he's still around; hadn't seen him that I can recall... thinking ), and NabooPrincess, maybe we could work it all out. mischief

Only time can tell.

After the "kick-off" there is always a moment when tension drops in a game. That is when they are usually in danger of dying. Nothing to do with the topic of this thread, after all. But I think this is the nature of any RPG-thread. Like scripts for movies, most never make it to film . . .

Voted for no complains, because after three minutes of thinking I had found nothing to comlain about. Good work, NP. I case I never mentioned it.

The poll thing says I already voted. But I know I would have picked the same thing that I did this time around.

Great RPF, however I have seen a stark decline in orginal games over the years. I've been here six years (Bravo, Jim_Palso) and except for a handful of notable games from my experience---War of the Galaxies (back in the day version), The New Dark Times (both game one and game two), Balance of Power, the Jedi Outcasts, and a game Skye_Lightrider ran breify, all of the games are pretty much the same: Jedi verus Sith, it's the end of the galaxy!

What I really miss is the days of the starfighter RPG's. I know we ran them to death a few years ago, but now the Jedi and Sith RPG's are running me to death. Back in the day we use to have three pages of current RPG's...now we have one and a half pages, with the third page of games not touched in months. I don't know if this has been due to the new Non-Star Wars Role-Playing or something the moderators put in place to cut down on short-lived and crappy RPG's. All I know is that the selection of games, frankly, has to improve. I can't imagine RPing anywhere else but TFN and I can't imagine with anybody else but my fellow JCers (great boards and great people happy )...yet, it seems like we need some new blood...or maybe it's some old verteran JCer blood to get some good games rolling again.

I've been trying to start a starfighter RPG, twice, and I'm just way too busy with training and work right now to be a GM. However, I do have enough time to be a fellow RPer if someone would be interested in starting a starfighter RPG.

I was tempted to join back in with the Revamped War of the Galaxies RPG under my Bravo profile, but then I remembered how much homework I had to do aside from RL to just keep up with Jello and Mitth. tongue That just goes to show you the level of great RPing some of our veteran RPers have, I just wish we had more of them starting some cool orginal games.

And the Jedi Outcasts...well, enough said there, best game ever. grin Okay Skye, where's my promotion? tongue j/k

Just thought I would add in my two cents. Some starfighter RPG's or even some small person first-person games, like street life on Coruscant as a gangest or something would be nice.

Thanks all, see you on the boards. happy

Weird: I've noticed some players picking up the bad habits of other players. Stop doing that.

From the days of Darth_Attorney, to the moderating days of PoT, and now you NP, I've never had any problems with the way the forums have been run. Visually, the RPF has always been stimulating, with many talented people to aid in that.

And though my time to lurk among the JCF has become minimal, it still seems things here run every smoothly.

Admittedly, the only thing I've ever had a problem with here is those ignorant few who claim they know how to Role Play and than butcher every aspect of writing in it's entirety.
